Kumogakure Camp.
Kinkaku burst into the command tent, having fled from the battlefield.
"Kinkaku, why are you back?" The long-haired brawny man frowned as he saw Kinkaku's disheveled state.
As the battlefield commander, he was stationed in the rear and hadn't gone to the front lines himself. His role was to prevent Konoha from launching a surprise attack on their main camp.
The rear was full of supplies and wounded. If it were infiltrated successfully, it would result in huge losses.
This was crucial to the outcome of the war. As commander, he had no choice but to stay behind.
Though he couldn't personally take the field, he could still send someone to avenge their teacher…
So he had ordered Kinkaku to lead two elite jōnin to the battlefield and kill that Uchiha brat.
Given Kinkaku's power, plus two elite jōnin as support, taking down a single boy shouldn't have been a problem.
After all, Kinkaku wielded the Six Paths ninja tools and Nine-Tails chakra—he had definitely reached the threshold of Kage-level strength.
There was no reason he should have been defeated by just a few jōnin…
But looking at Kinkaku's miserable condition now, the long-haired man had a very bad feeling.
"Damn it! That damned Uchiha brat has grown even stronger!" Kinkaku had already exited his tailed beast state. Gritting his teeth, he yanked a kunai from his back.
He stabbed it into the ground in fury, his expression twisted with rage.
"Those bastards work together so seamlessly, I couldn't find any opening!"
Just the thought of Koharu Utatane and Mitokado Homura made his whole body tremble with rage.
"And that was my Banana Palm Fan..." Kinkaku hadn't finished speaking when the long-haired man cut him off coldly.
He narrowed his eyes, suppressing his anger as he said, "So what you're saying is… you lost to that Uchiha again?"
Kinkaku didn't confirm it directly. "Send me five more elite jōnin! This time I swear I'll kill them all!"
The coordination between Renya's six-man team was simply too flawless. Even though Kinkaku was individually stronger, he couldn't gain any advantage in battle—in fact, he was completely suppressed.
Two elite jōnin just weren't enough. If he'd had three more, he wouldn't have been overwhelmed by their teamwork.
In a one-on-one duel, he was confident he could kill Renya!
If Kinkaku were commander, with authority over the troops, he would've already led an army to wipe them out.
To him, winning the war didn't matter. As long as his thirst for blood was satisfied, that was enough.
And now, with the added goal of avenging his brother, he didn't care what the cost was, as long as he achieved his objective.
But the long-haired man wasn't like Kinkaku. He wanted to defeat Konoha with the smallest possible cost, and there was no way he'd let Kinkaku do as he pleased.
Elite jōnin were top-tier combat power in the village—they played crucial roles and absolutely couldn't be wasted like this!
The fact that Renya's team had managed to defeat Kinkaku with their coordination meant their strength was not to be underestimated.
There was no way he was sending more jōnin to attack them.
"Give me five more! I can win this time!" Kinkaku said unwillingly.
"Useless. Shut up!" the long-haired man barked coldly. "With your kind of stupidity, it doesn't matter how many people I give you!"
The air in the tent grew heavy.
Kinkaku's face darkened. He didn't argue back, but a trace of humiliation flickered in his eyes, and he clenched his fists in silent fury.
If he weren't weaker, he would've torn this man apart by now.
The long-haired man ignored Kinkaku. His fists cracked as he squeezed them tight, arcs of lightning sparking around him.
Since this waste of space Kinkaku had failed, he'd have to go to the battlefield himself to avenge their fallen teacher.
He no longer cared about the commander's rule of not going to the front…
Even if Renya and the others hadn't killed their teacher, he would still kill them!
Anyone who could defeat Kinkaku was already a serious threat to Kumogakure. As the commander, he had to eliminate that threat.
The long-haired man shot Kinkaku a cold glance, lightning arcing across his fist.
"That Uchiha brat… I'll kill him myself!"
...
Frontline Battlefield.
The Konoha shinobi had just finished a bloody skirmish. The ground beneath their feet was soaked with blood, and corpses of Kumo ninja lay scattered around them.
With Renya's six-man team joining the fray, the battle had ended swiftly.
They were preparing to move to the next battle zone when—
"Boom—!"
A white bolt of lightning tore through the air on the distant horizon, rapidly closing in at terrifying speed.
Right behind it came Kinkaku, six crimson tails wildly flailing.
"It's that guy—and Kinkaku!" Sarutobi Hiruzen's face changed drastically. He gripped his Adamantine Staff tightly.
"Damn it, Kinkaku actually went and brought reinforcements!" Shimura Danzō's face darkened. If he'd known this would happen, he would never have let Kinkaku escape.
"Stay alert!" Uchiha Kagami warned.
Just as everyone tensed, a strangely calm voice spoke.
"They've finally come."
Renya's tone was eerily composed.
Everyone turned their heads sharply. They saw the faint curve of his lips, the three tomoe in his eyes slowly spinning… with a hint of expectation?
Everyone was stunned and a bit incredulous. Where was Renya's confidence coming from?!
They were about to face two Kage-level opponents!
Faced with questioning glances from his teammates, Renya didn't explain.
"You'll find out soon enough."
Seeing how confident he was, the same thought flashed through everyone's minds.
Could it be that Renya had already planned a way to deal with them?
And in fact, they were right.
Renya had long since developed a powder specifically to counter the long-haired man—he just hadn't revealed it.
At first, he thought he wouldn't get to test it immediately since he hadn't run into the guy, but unexpectedly the man had delivered himself right to their doorstep.
This time, Renya was determined to take down both of them at once!
...
The long-haired man crashed down like a meteor. The ground cracked under the impact, stone shards flying everywhere.
He slowly stood up straight. Violent Lightning Release chakra formed an armor over his body, and his sharp eyes scanned the group before finally locking onto Renya.
"So you're the one… who killed my teacher?"
Kinkaku arrived right behind him, six tails flailing madly. His eyes blazed with vengeance.
"You damn brat, this time you die for sure!"
He refused to believe that even teamed up with the long-haired man, they couldn't kill this cursed Uchiha brat!
Today would be his death day!
The air seemed to freeze. Beads of sweat formed on the foreheads of Sarutobi Hiruzen and the others.
Facing two Kage-level opponents at once, even with all six of them combined, their chances of victory were abysmally low.
Unconsciously, they all looked at Renya's back.
Their only hope now lay in whatever strategy he had come up with.
They all knew—Renya was not the kind of person to make a move without absolute confidence.
The long-haired man didn't waste any words. Lightning chakra surged around him as he suddenly vanished, launching the first strike.
"Hell Stab: Piercing Four Fingered!"
Four of his fingers were wrapped in Lightning Release chakra strong enough to pierce solid rock, stabbing straight toward Renya's heart.
If this strike landed, Renya would die instantly!
"Renya, look out!" Sarutobi Hiruzen shouted.
"Everyone, stop him!"
