In the warm atmosphere, it seemed some of the gloom in the sky had dissipated.
On the fading ruins, the tender singing drifted away.
"Happy birthday to you~ Happy birthday to you~"
"Big brother, your singing is awful!"
The innocent laughter echoed under the makeshift shelter, the two blushing faces of the siblings clapping and swaying gently. Everything seemed to have returned to the past, before the war, with the family sitting around the dining table, the little girl wearing a small crown, making innocent wishes.
A cold wind blew through the cracks in the ruins, the firelight flickered briefly and went out, the warm scene faded, the cold scene replayed. A mottled wooden bed, on the shelf placed half a tube of children's toothpaste and two simple toothbrushes, a small pile of comic magazines stacked beside the bed; these were the only things no one cared about on the ruins; the boy had specially collected them.
