Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Trademark Secured

Chen Lin walked Wang Hongliang out.

As Wu Jun's friend, she really wanted to make this deal happen, so she tried to persuade Wang Hongliang a little more.

The two of them talked outside for about ten minutes. Then, Wang Hongliang scanned the code on a yellow share-bike parked at the entrance and rode off. Chen Lin turned and went back inside.

"Thanks, Chen Lin. I'll treat you to a big meal when this is all over." Wu Jun, who had been inside, heard Chen Lin trying to persuade Wang Hongliang. He thanked her and got up to leave.

Chen Lin asked speechlessly, "What in the world happened between you two? Every time you meet, the air is thick with tension, like you're mortal enemies."

"It's nothing, just a little friction. I'm going to head back now, too." Wu Jun said his goodbyes, and Chen Lin saw him to the door.

"Where's the share-bike I rode here?" As soon as he stepped outside, Wu Jun realized that the problematic yellow bike he had parked at the entrance was gone.

Chen Lin said, "That Mr. Wang from just now rode it away."

CLANG!

"Ow! What the hell is this piece of junk! Even you're going to mess with me!"

Just as Chen Lin finished speaking, an angry curse came from not too far away.

Wu Jun and Chen Lin turned around at the same time and saw Wang Hongliang scrambling up from the ground, dusting himself off while kicking the fallen yellow share-bike...

Chen Lin was startled by the sight and started to walk toward Wang Hongliang. After all, he was a client of her company, and since she had witnessed this "traffic" accident, she couldn't just pretend she hadn't. It was necessary to go over and check on him.

Just as Chen Lin took a step, Wu Jun stepped sideways to block her, gloating, "That's what you call getting what you deserve. Just leave him be."

Chen Lin was speechless. 'Those two are really a case of diamond-cuts-diamond, at each other's throats constantly!'

However, she was friends with Wu Jun and didn't know Wang Hongliang well. She had no choice but to say, "Well, I'll head back inside then. It would be awkward if Mr. Wang saw me. How will you get home?"

Wu Jun said, "For my own personal safety, I think I'd better go get a taxi! You go on inside, Chen Lin. I'm leaving now."

Wu Jun said goodbye to Chen Lin and headed for the exit of the wholesale market. Wang Hongliang had already left the market before him.

Wu Jun left, hailed a taxi back to his supermarket, and checked the time. It was already past 4:50 PM. He opened up for business.

The rice business was as booming as ever. Less than ten minutes after opening, the first customer came in and bought 10 kilograms of rice. Wu Jun earned 100 yuan.

Business continued to boom. At 9:30 PM, Wu Jun saw off his last customer and closed up for the day.

After washing up, Wu Jun went into his bedroom and flopped onto the large bed.

After weighing several tons of rice every day, once he closed up for the night, he didn't want to go anywhere. He just wanted to rest properly.

He wasn't even interested in movies anymore and couldn't be bothered to renew his expired memberships.

He took out the phone linked to [Resource Tycoon] and tapped the screen. Wu Jun spent another 40,000 yuan to recruit 2 more Farmers and purchase 2 new plots of rice paddies, bringing his total to 10 Farmers and 10 plots of rice paddies.

His savings had already reached over 300,000 yuan. Aside from the 80,000 yuan for the surgery fee and the 50,000 he had set aside for the trademark, he had no other major expenses.

It cost 20,000 yuan to increase his production capacity by one ton, and one ton of rice sold for 10,000 yuan. He could make back his investment in just two days; the rest was pure profit.

Spending money in the game was an incredibly profitable venture, so he didn't feel the sting of spending it at all.

After finishing his tasks in the game, Wu Jun was just about to go to sleep when the phone he used for calls, which was on his nightstand, rang. The caller ID showed Chen Lin's name.

"What's up, Chen Lin? Why are you calling so late?" Wu Jun asked as he answered the phone.

"I have good news. That Mr. Wang from earlier today agreed to sell the trademark by itself. Forty thousand yuan. You can sign the contract and handle the paperwork tomorrow," came Chen Lin's voice from the other end.

"That's fantastic." Hearing this good news, Wu Jun shot up in bed.

"A little over a year ago, our company helped sell a rice trademark for someone else, and it went for 48,000. Mr. Wang's offer is very fair," Chen Lin advised from the other end of the line. "Wu Jun, when you see him this time, try to be patient. You've been waiting for this trademark for so long."

Wu Jun said, "Alright, I get it. I won't stoop to his level."

"It's getting late, and I need to get some rest. Good night. Bye."

"Bye." Wu Jun tapped the screen and hung up.

The trademark was almost his. Although he appeared calm on the surface, he was thrilled inside.

He tossed and turned on his large bed for quite a while before finally drifting off to sleep.

「The next morning.」

Everything was business as usual. The morning was filled with customers.

He sold over half a ton of rice in the morning, and then an explosive ton-plus during the lunch rush. In just half a day, Wu Jun's savings had increased by nearly 20,000 yuan—enough to pay for half the trademark.

After the peak lunch crowd subsided, Wu Jun had lunch and then found a yellow share-bike on the side of the road.

Having learned from Wang Hongliang's precedent, Wu Jun inspected the bike carefully to make sure there was nothing wrong with it and all its parts were in working order. Only then did he scan the code to unlock it and ride off toward the wholesale market.

Arriving at Chen Lin's company, Wu Jun walked in to see Wang Hongliang sitting on a sofa against the wall, smoking with his head down.

Hearing someone enter, Wang Hongliang looked up, his gaze meeting Wu Jun's.

For an instant, static seemed to crackle in the air between them.

Wang Hongliang snorted coldly, turned his head away, and didn't give Wu Jun the time of day, much less greet him.

Wu Jun couldn't be bothered with him either and found a seat diagonally opposite from Wang Hongliang.

"Wu Jun, you're here. I just printed out the transfer agreement. Could you take a look and see if there are any issues?" Chen Lin asked, emerging from the back office area with a stack of documents and walking over to him.

"Okay, let me see." Wu Jun took the contract and began to review it carefully, line by line. Chen Lin sat down opposite him with her knees together, waiting patiently.

Ten minutes later, Wu Jun picked up the pen from the coffee table, signed his name on both copies of the contract with a few quick strokes, and looked up at Chen Lin. "No issues. It's a deal."

"Great." Chen Lin collected the contracts and walked over to Wang Hongliang.

Wang Hongliang also signed the contract without any fuss. The deal was finally complete.

Wu Jun got the trademark, and Wang Hongliang got 40,000 yuan.

The name of the trademark was "Hongyun Rice," which sounded quite impressive.

"Goodbye, Miss Chen." With the 40,000 yuan in hand, Wang Hongliang didn't want to spend a second longer with Wu Jun. He said a quick farewell to Chen Lin and turned to leave.

"Take care, Mr. Wang. Feel free to come back if you have any other business in the future." Chen Lin saw Wang Hongliang to the door before turning back.

Wu Jun asked, "Chen Lin, how much is the commission?"

Seeing no one else around, Chen Lin lowered her voice and said, "Normally, it's 3% of the transaction price, which would be 1,200. I'll just charge you 1,000. That's about as much of a discount as I have the authority to give."

Wu Jun got up and followed Chen Lin to the finance department to settle the bill, transferring 1,000 yuan to them.

After leaving the finance office, Wu Jun sent Chen Lin another 200 yuan via WeChat.

"Wu Jun, what are you doing?" Chen Lin asked quietly, pulling him aside after seeing the red envelope notification.

Wu Jun said, "You've worked hard on this for days. It's only 200 yuan, but you saved me that much, so it's yours."

"No, we agreed on 1,000, so it's 1,000." As she spoke, Chen Lin tapped the transfer option and sent the 200 yuan back to Wu Jun.
