Chapter 17 - Chapter 15: Flying Competition

"Brother, are you sure this will work?"

"Why wouldn't it? If she loses her Holy Daughter status, you'll have a chance."

"What if she can't handle it?"

"Then all the better. At that time, just offer her warmth, and you can easily win her over."

A third-year student at Divine Magic Academy, Tier Two Mage, and son of Mr. Deville, Nosen Deville was currently looking at his younger brother with frustration.

"Mier, stop acting like a dog in front of the nobles. You don't need to be humble with commoners. If they won't take money, then bankrupt them, ruin their lives, so they'll understand the value of Gold Coins."

Mier still seemed conflicted. "What if the Holy Court finds out?"

"A prospective Holy Daughter from a remote area. Do you think she could actually become one?"

Mier shook his head.

"That's right. For someone who can't become a Holy Daughter, the Holy Court won't offend the Deville Clan for this. Besides, we're not forcing her. It's her own choice. We're not the ones telling her how to make money; it's got nothing to do with us."

"I guess... that makes sense."

Nosen gave a nod of approval. "Good you understand. However, her friend is only willing to provide money-making tips and refuses to do the rest. No matter how I pressured him, he wouldn't budge. It's up to you to handle the last part."

"Me?!" Mier turned pale. "No, I can't report it to the teachers. If they find out, I'll be beaten to death!"

"You can find someone who won't get discovered or won't rat you out to do it for you."

Mier's face grew even more troubled. "The risk is too high. No one will dare to do it."

"Then you'll have to do it yourself. I've helped you this far. Do you expect me to go find the Academy's Law Enforcement Team for you?" Nosen waved his hand and turned to leave. "It's up to you whether you do it or not. But after this, winning her over will be even harder."

Behind him, Mier's face was uncertain, but eventually, he seemed to have made up his mind.

...

Friday afternoon.

After finishing all the mandatory classes, it was time for the final flying lesson. The flight class teacher seemed preoccupied today, unusually so. Normally, he would correct everyone's flying stances and stop any violations of the flying rules, but today, he just let everyone do a simple flight warm-up before dismissing them for free activity.

The entire class scattered like blossoming flowers, everyone perched on their individual Flying Device, frolicking freely in the sky above the activity area like huskies breaking off a leash.

Hilia pretended to have forgotten something in the classroom, flew a lap in the sky, and then landed back in the academic area, quickly heading to a bathroom stall to change attire.

"Mr. Rose, how's this disguise?"

"Hmm, not bad. Looks just like a third-year student. Even I couldn't tell it's you."

Hilia put her mask in her pocket, left the academic area, mounted her Flying Broom, and leisurely flew towards the Modest Tower, where the race was to take place.

The Modest Tower is located at the southernmost part of the Divine Magic Academy, a bit of a distance from the activity area. It took Hilia about ten minutes to fly there.

Upon landing, she noticed quite a few students around the tower, but they weren't gathered together; instead, they were sitting in the surrounding woods, seemingly just resting.

This area is considered one of the rest zones in the academy. There's nothing particularly unusual about resting here. At least on the surface, Hilia couldn't tell who was planning to participate in the flying race.

She flicked her wristband and glanced at the time, "Just five minutes till it starts, almost didn't make it."

She looked towards Mr. Rose in her Spiritual Space, relaxing her mind, "Mr. Rose, I'll be relying on you."

"Relying on me for what?" Mr. Rose chuckled, "It's your race, do your best."

"Ah? Okay then." Hilia was smiling, but her grip on the broom showed she wasn't truly at ease inside.

They had done flight training yesterday as well, but it mainly focused on sudden acceleration and fancy maneuvers. She still wasn't confident in flying at high speed.

So when Mr. Rose said she'd be flying, she had no idea how to win.

At that moment, the time arrived.

The wooden token she received seemed to sense something, emitting a soft glow as text floated up.

[Top of Tower of Diligence]

Immediately, Hilia saw that the students who had been casually resting started taking out their flying devices, rising into the sky, heading north.

Those who suddenly flew at high speeds had a variety of flying devices, including spinning flying carpets, nine lizard carts, and succubi-drawn carts... everything you could think of.

Though they were just models, not actual succubi.

Hilia noticed that some Flying Brooms were also equipped with jet Arrays, turning them into jet brooms with higher speeds.

Seeing this, she quickly mounted her broom to follow, but others accelerated from zero to a hundred kilometers in no time while she transitioned from walking to running, quickly falling behind.

"Keep accelerating," Mr. Rose advised.

"I can't accelerate any more, or I'll go over the speed limit."

Mr. Rose: "You're racing, and worried about speed limits? Listen to me, accelerate."

"Alright then." Hilia reluctantly infused Magic Power, slowly reaching her speed limit of around 40 km/h.

At that moment, information popped up on her Flying Broom—

"You're about to exceed the speed limit. We've lowered your speed for you, no need to thank us."

Hilia: "?"

Mr. Rose glanced over, "The Flying Broom is connected to the school's Star Spirit Network. Going over the speed limit triggers a school warning that lowers your speed."

Hilia: "What? There's a speed limit too?"

"You've used it for this long and didn't know?" Mr. Rose had known it connected to the school's Star Spirit Network but wasn't aware of such warnings, thinking it was just to prevent students from taking them home secretly.

"I didn't know. I usually fly at half my speed."

Mr. Rose: "..."

Good thing they hadn't originally planned for Hilia to star in a high-speed drama.

"Just fly like this for now. The timing isn't right yet," Mr. Rose suggested.

"Okay."

Hilia agreed, and simply flying in a straight line, she quickly adapted to the 40 km/h speed.

Suddenly, she noticed a silhouette ahead that seemed to be another competitor.

"Huh? Is that person part of the race? He's not using a school broom, yet he's also flying at speed limit?"

"If it weren't for you, he would probably be first this time," Mr. Rose smiled.

Hilia: "?"

Mr. Rose gave a cryptic smile, "You'll find out soon, it's almost time."

...

Regis, the flight instructor for the first-year genius class, was also the captain of the school's Law Enforcement Team.

This morning, he received a message about a brazen flying race scheduled to occur during this afternoon's flying class.

They even had the audacity to plan a flight from the south to the north of the school, covering the entire campus. As the captain of the Law Enforcement Team, could he condone this?

Usually, when they held impromptu races, they'd use sneaky routes that didn't affect other students, making it difficult to catch them. So they'd turn a blind eye. However, a student whistleblower had given them the route map.

If they didn't arrest all participants this time, they might as well disband the Law Enforcement Team!

"Captain, they've made their move. Their acceleration is swift, already reaching three times the maximum speed limit."

"Good, intercept them as soon as they enter the activity zone!"
