Chapter 227 - “The Paradise Gifted to Master Roshi”

Everyone followed his gaze, but there was nothing to see. Just as questions began to form in their minds, a black dot appeared on the surface of the ocean. It grew rapidly larger as it drew closer—

it was none other than the person everyone had been longing to see: Son Goku.

"Goku! It's Goku!" Krillin shouted in delight.

This boy… he's not simple, thought Master Roshi.

While the others rejoiced at Goku's timely arrival, Roshi alone gave Naruto a long, thoughtful look.

His eyesight surpasses even mine!

"So that's your comrade, huh? His energy feels incredibly strong."

Naruto's tone sounded half like he was talking to himself, and half like he was making sure someone in particular would hear it.

As expected, Roshi's curiosity deepened when he heard Naruto's "unintentional" remark.

Everyone else's attention, however, had already shifted completely to Goku.

It had been three long years since they'd last seen him—they had missed him dearly.

After successfully completing their registration, the group surrounded Goku, chattering nonstop.

So that's Grandpa Roshi… it's been so long since I last saw him. Seeing him in this era really brings back memories. Wait—come to think of it, hasn't he always looked exactly like this since the first time I met him?

Inside the sealed space, Kakarot sighed with emotion.

That's just like Grandpa Roshi, alright.

The Earth of the Dragon Ball world was truly a miraculous place, filled with things no other planet possessed: Senzu Beans, Super God Water, and even an Elixir of Immortality.

It was said that the reason Master Roshi had lived for so many centuries was because he had once taken that immortal elixir.

By the way, although Earth was located on the very edge of the Milky Way, it was known across the universe as the center of fine cuisine.

"You almost missed the registration deadline, Goku."

"Why are you all covered in dirt?"

"Wait—you didn't swim here, did you?"

A storm of questions erupted from his friends, and Goku patiently answered them one by one.

When they learned that he had actually swum all the way across the planet to get there, everyone was stunned.

I have to admit, this world really is ideal for training, thought Naruto.

He didn't join in the conversation; instead, he focused on sensing this world's energy.

The natural energy here was dozens of times richer than that of the Naruto world. Training in Sage Mode here for just one day could yield the results of a month of hard training back home.

This place… it's paradise—a paradise for those who train.

Next time, I should bring Sasuke and the others. As long as it's before the Dragon Ball Z era, Earth is still relatively safe.

As for the later stages of the Dragon Ball timeline…

Well, better to do more good deeds and pray for good fortune. After all, only the good guys get resurrected later on.

"Young man, are you also here to participate in the World Martial Arts Tournament?" Roshi asked.

"I seem to sense a faintly familiar presence from within you."

Unlike the others who surrounded Goku, Roshi's interest was clearly fixed on Naruto. "Would you mind telling me your name?"

"Yes, sir. My name is Naruto Uzumaki," Naruto replied politely.

"Hmm. I'm Muten," said Roshi with a nod—using one of his older titles. His brows furrowed slightly, as though he were searching his memories for that unusual surname.

"So you're the legendary Master Muten, God of Martial Arts. It's an honor to meet you."

Throughout their conversation, Naruto maintained a tone of deep respect toward Roshi—a stark contrast to how he had earlier spoken rather sharply to the Crane Hermit.

It was no surprise that Roshi found something "familiar" about Naruto's aura—

after all, Naruto was trained in the purest form of Turtle School martial arts.

Without Kakarot… without the mental discipline of the Turtle School to temper his heart, Naruto couldn't imagine how he would have endured life back in the Hidden Leaf.

With his temperament, he might very well have snapped under the villagers' abuse and lost control.

In truth, Naruto held great gratitude and reverence toward Kakarot.

It was Kakarot who had accompanied him through his darkest years.

So naturally, Naruto also had a strong affection and respect for Master Roshi, the founder of the Turtle School—and Kakarot's own teacher.

By seniority, Naruto could even rightfully call Roshi "Grandmaster."

"Come to think of it, I actually have some connection to Master Muten," Naruto admitted openly, not hiding anything.

"I've also trained in the Turtle School style that you founded."

"Oh? Could it be that oaf, Ox-King?" Roshi asked, recalling his old disciples.

Roshi had only ever taken a few students in his lifetime.

His first disciple was Son Gohan—Goku's grandfather—

and to honor him, Goku later named his own son after him.

His second disciple was the Ox-King.

Son Gohan had been gentle and free-spirited, much like Roshi himself.

The Ox-King, on the other hand… well, power tends to corrupt, and even a Turtle School student wasn't immune.

After achieving mastery, he became a mountain tyrant, robbing and pillaging under the name "Ox-King."

From then on, Roshi stopped taking disciples.

Only much later did he train Goku, Krillin, and Yamcha.

Naruto simply shook his head, not explaining further.

Instead, he reached into his robes and pulled out something to hand to Roshi.

"I had actually planned to visit you in person someday," Naruto said with a smile. "Didn't expect to run into you here instead."

"This is a work by a very famous author. I've heard you're fond of this kind of reading material, so I'd like to offer it for your… evaluation."

Then he added, "It hasn't been released in this world yet."

Roshi's eyes lit up the moment he saw the cover.

He quickly snatched the book from Naruto, letting out an odd little exclamation.

"Oh-ho! A private collector's edition?! How embarrassing…!"

What Naruto had handed him was a novel—

a legendary, adult-themed romantic book from the Naruto world, written by none other than Jiraiya himself:

"Make-Out Paradise."

Roshi glanced around carefully—especially at Bulma and Launch—to make sure no one was paying attention.

Then, grinning slyly, he quietly opened the book.

"Which master's work is this, I wonder? Let me judge it with my most critical eye…"

But after flipping through a few pages, Roshi's excitement faded, and he closed it in disappointment.

"Hmph! So it's not a photo magazine after all."

Compared to pages full of tiny words, Roshi preferred his entertainment… more straightforward and visual.

"Seems you still don't really understand me," he said suddenly, putting on a mock-serious expression.

"Don't listen to the nonsense others say—I am a righteous martial artist!"

Righteous, huh…?

Does that mean he's not a pervert?

"Did someone say something about a photo magazine…?" Bulma's voice drifted over.

"Attention all contestants for the World Martial Arts Tournament! The preliminaries are about to begin! Please proceed to the testing area immediately!"

Just as the situation grew awkward for Roshi, the loudspeaker announcement saved him.

"Ahem! The preliminaries are starting. You'd better all get going—you don't want to be late!"

As the group headed into the pre-selection hall, Roshi slipped away under some excuse—

and began thumbing through Make-Out Paradise as he walked.

A few minutes later, he wiped a trickle of blood from his nose.

"This book's got something to it… not bad at all."
