MongKe Khan and Duke Yan are attacking each other without interfering from the others. The sword from Mongke Khan is strong enough to break the spear into two. The Duke throw it away and have his hands roll up in a tight fist. Mongke Khan actually laugh at the Duke and he decide to put away his sword for a fair fight. With both fist raise up, the two men starts to fight.
With sweat beads rolling down, heated body temperature, they hit each other with no tomorrow. Both are equal in physical strength and endurances. They box and attempted to throw each other on the concrete floor. By an hour pass, Duke Yan's pony tail is pull down. His long hair is now hanging down passing his waist. His fringe is down and paste on his forehead. He looks like a young man who is fill with energy and desire to win a round of wrestling. While Mongke Khan is still in his same appearance except that his braids are in a mess and not as tidy and neat like before. He had remove one of his sleeves and revel his muscular arm. His body is like a hard rock that is unbreakable. The two men continue to hit each other when the opportunely arrises. There is pain, there is blood but they are not going to stop till one of them have fallen down on the ground.
Er Yin is running on the ground with her knife. She sees an opportunely, she will slice the neck of her enemy without heastiation. She look around and do what she can to protect her south gate as well as to kick them all out of the fortress. She see the number of Mongols are getting less. The sound of the hand bombs going off is ringing everywhere. It looks like they might take back the fortress.
At the rooftop, her solider blow the horn. She understand that another incoming Mongols are approaching from the entrance. She hurry to go to the hiding place of more hand bombs. Putting them into her shirt, she pass some to the other soldiers. Together, they pick up the fresh new arrows that are hidden. They run up the rooftop. Laying low and watching the direction that the Mongol might come running in. Another horn is blown with a signal that the Mongols are near at their area. They take a peek to see at the ground floor, the Mongols are walking in cautious. They are looking at everywhere with their bows and arrows at hand. Er Yin take out her hand bomb and her lighter to get ready. Once, they pass their spot, they can safety throw the hand bombs at that group of Mongol soldiers. She count in her breath as she cannot raise her head to see if they are walking pass. However with every count, she can hear the foot steps that they are taking. Finally, she decided that they are far enough. She take a peek and see that they are walking about forty feet away, she give her soldiers a signal and they all light up the hand bombs. Quietly they stand up and throw the bombs at the Mongols direction. Squatting down, they cover their ears and the explosive is loud enough and strong enough to send little rocks back to them. Er Yin listen to the screaming of the the Mongols. She stand up to see most of them are crush and injured or dead. She hurry the ground floor. With her knife in her hand, she slice their throats. It's better to be dead than to be injured and hanging on to life in pain.
The Duke raise Mongke Khan on his thin skinny arms and throw him over his shoulder. Mongke Khan fall on the floor stare at the sky. They both breath deeply not able to move. The Duke stand there with his arms pressing on his waist. He is tired and hungry. His long legs suddenly feel weak and they shake as he stands over Mongke Khan. His long hair is covering his tired face. Luo Ming and his men come running up. They tied the hands and legs of Mongke Khan and put him on the cart which have two Mongols on it. They slowly drag the cart off. Luo Ming help the Duke to sit on a nearby chair. He goes inside the tea house and come out with a tea pot. The Duke drink all the liquid content. Luo Ming hear the rumbling of the hunger from the Duke. They are all tired and hungry but the Mongols have to be deal with first before anything else.
Darkness soon comes quietly. The fortress did not have a sound. Luo Ming and his men continue to guard the jail cell. While Er Yin and her soldiers comb the fortress for any Mongols hiding. General An meanwhile have gone off to the batted gate and try to seal up the fallen gate. They used the remaining logs they find to temporary hold everything up. The ladders outside the fortress are taken inside the fortress. They need a messenger to climb out the south gate and run towards the city for back up.
The holy monk and his disciples comes walking into the heart of the city. They bow to each solider who either fallen or just siting on the ground tired. The little disciples hand out two small Vegetrian buns to each soldiers. While the older disciples together with the holy monk collect the bodies they see on the street. whether they are Han Chinese or Mongols, they try to carry them and place them neatly on the ground where their master is sitting and chanting.
Er Yin is given a bun and she gobbled it up and clean her mouth with her sleeves but this is not enough for the hungry and angry. She console herself that she is still alive and food will come later. She hears the chanting from the holy monk. She and her soldiers walk towards the sound. They see the dead laying in front of the monks and some soldiers are sitting in a lotus position beside the monks. With their eyes close and the hands place in a prayer position. Er Yin and her soldiers join them too in sitting with the holy monks. In her mind, she pray for all these to end soon. She suddenly miss home and her family. Tears form and roll down with her closed eyes. She wonder how is her new family. How long is it for them to stay in this fortress, she have lost count the days. When will they all go home.
The next day, just as the sun raises, a mass burial is done for the Han Chinese. While the Mongols, are known that they buried the dead with a sky burial. However it's against the Buddhist style of burial thus Duke Yan make the decision to open the gate and bring out the dead bodies. Each bodies are clean and wrapped with a white cloth. They are place on a cart of two or three bodies. The soldiers bring them out to the open battle field. In the late afternoon, a group of Mongols walk towards the cart. The Duke and his men who are standing at the broken tower watch them.
The Mongols with their hands place on their chest, all bow to the fortress. Slowly, they pick up the carts and move them off. At that moment, the sky is clear, the sun is shining brightly. Maybe this will be a truce for them all. Too many people are injured and dead for a piece of land.
