Chapter 80: Shield vs Shield

Yin Zhe walked onto the heavy stone floor of Arena Five. This was not a normal stage. It was a massive slab of dark, polished stone that looked like it had seen thousands of years of combat. Surrounding the edge of the arena were tall, and glowing pillars inscribed with ancient runes. These were the Sound Arrays.
(Hummmmm...)
The sound arrays worked like a giant, invisible bubble. As soon as Yin Zhe stepped past the line, the roar of the thousands of people in the stands vanished. It was replaced by a strange, and heavy silence. This was done so the young cultivators could focus entirely on their one-on-one matches without the crowd's cheering or booing distracting them.
Yin Zhe looked around. The air inside the arena felt trapped and still. Because of the heat coming off his body, the air began to shimmer and warp, like a road on a very hot summer day.
"Finally, a little quietness," Yin Zhe thought to himself. (Sigh...)
