Chapter 258 - Chapter 258: Savage Instinct Unleashed

The dense mist of black and red slowly dispersed, revealing the ferocious figure within.

Under the super-high-speed metabolism, the Savage Deviljho's wounds had already healed anew; beneath the surging Dragon-element energy, the new wounds seemed covered by a thin layer of skin, their interiors filled with crimson blood.

In its lifeless eyes remained only savagery and killing intent; its wide mouth, filled with sharp fangs, opened slightly, corrosive drool dripping together with scalding Dragon-element energy.

Compared with before, its muscular swelling was not as exaggerated, yet the Dragon-element energy coiling around its body had become even denser.

It staggered forward two steps, and the ground, made brittle by the scorching of the Calamity Flames, crumbled beneath its feet.

After glancing up at Logan once, it turned away without looking back and charged madly into the distance.

Yes—just that decisive!

But don't misunderstand; this was not an escape. It was simply because Logan was flying too high. The Savage Deviljho, now left with only the instincts of slaughter and feeding, instinctively judged that it could not prey upon Logan, and so intended to leave this place in search of new food sources.

This move left even Logan momentarily dumbfounded.

After all that noise he had just made, and after fighting for so long, this thing—having lost its reason and entered its full state—was actually planning to just pat its rear and leave.

It made the previous battle seem like a joke!

In order not to make himself the butt of that joke, the enraged Logan dove downward; while lowering his altitude, he spewed several fireballs in succession, striving to block the opponent's path forward.

Yet the bluish-purple fireballs that had previously been able to force the Savage Deviljho to halt its steps, this time, when landing on its body, were mostly devoured and neutralized by the dissipating Dragon-element energy, and the remaining flames quickly extinguished after exploding.

Fortunately, they still managed to stop its mad charge.

The next instant, with a sonic boom, Logan's speed suddenly surged; his wings once again turned into light wings, and his entire body shot forward like an arrow loosed from the string, tearing through the air and trailing radiance as he charged toward the Savage Deviljho.

Suddenly, as if having a premonition, the Savage Deviljho—who by Logan's Mind's Eye judgment should have been unable to react—leapt violently upward.

At that instant, Logan happened to pass through its previous position; the ground beside him, sliced by the light wings, split like butter, the cross section smooth, the surroundings melting back into dripping magma.

Having missed with one strike, Logan swiftly twisted his body, flipping several times in midair before finally using the air resistance to steady himself once more.

Seeing the Savage Deviljho, which upon landing immediately charged forth without hesitation, Logan did not pause for even a moment; an air vortex exploded once again between his wings as he turned back to meet it head-on.

Suddenly, all the Savage Deviljho's muscle groups exerted strength again for no apparent reason, and its charging body abruptly halted.

It swung its head, opening that abyssal maw wreathed with Dragon-element energy, and bit at the empty air!

And the charging Logan, at that very moment, happened to swing his left wing—just like delivering himself into its jaws—sending the light wing straight into the opponent's mouth.

Given the Savage Deviljho's bite force, if that bite had landed solidly, with the Dragon-element energy in its mouth neutralizing most of the compressed Calamity Flames, Logan's wing would definitely have been injured; this strike might even have become the start of the Savage Deviljho's counterattack.

Unfortunately for it, the air at the tip of Logan's light wing quivered slightly, forcibly altering the wing's slashing trajectory.

[Crack!]

[Sizzle!]

The Savage Deviljho bit down on nothing; under the immense bite force, its upper and lower jaws collided, producing a thunderous crash.

And as the light wing swept past its lower jaw, the high temperature melted through the layers of interlocking fangs, tearing into flesh; upon the Savage Deviljho's hardest spot, it forcibly carved open a gap.

However, perhaps because rationality had vanished, or perhaps because the Savage Deviljho's bodily instincts had already been greatly dulled in their perception of pain due to the ultra-high temperature of the dragon-element energy flooding its whole body.

Even after being struck by Logan, it still forcibly twisted its neck by relying on the muscles of its neck and spewed a mouthful of dragon-element breath.

Unwilling to show weakness, Logan likewise returned it with a mouthful of Calamity Flame breath.

Two high-temperature breaths collided at close range.

Compared to the breath it had while still rational inside the Calamity Flame Vortex earlier, the Savage Deviljho's breath, now with its restraints undone, became even stronger; it actually kept spraying for quite a while, until the two energies reached their limit upon collision and exploded from within, forcing both sides back.

Because they were stained by dragon-element energy, the light wings' airflow used to compress flame collapsed, and amid a twist of light and shadow, the pair of wings returned to their original form once more.

Fortunately, thanks to the Marvel Scale Trait, Logan's scales likewise possessed dragon-element energy as protection, and thus, unlike when he once fought Deviljho and a bit of dragon-element energy affected the energy circulation in his body, no such effect occurred.

Therefore, facing the Savage Deviljho as it launched another charge, Logan sprang back and took off in a burst of fire, beginning low-altitude flight and tangling with it.

As they continued to trade blows, Logan discovered that this guy's sixth sense was terrifyingly strong. Relying purely on its instinctive judgment and its absolute control over its many muscle groups, it accomplished many inconceivable combat pre-readings.

Although its attacks were still that rough style of trading injury for injury and staking life for life, under the influence of that strong instinctive premonition, it saw through several of the traps Logan had deliberately left and stubbornly refused to fall for them.

This feeling, Logan had only ever experienced on that elder leader of the Zinogre who led his pack to attack the Ancient Tree.

It was just that the present battle was even more perilous, and the physiques of both sides were even stronger, that was all.

As one of the representatives of the Brute Wyverns, the Savage Deviljho displayed to the fullest the Brute Wyverns' superlative toughness.

Clearly, its body had already sustained countless wounds, and blood on the ground had already splashed across the whole combat area, yet under its abnormal metabolism, it still maintained an extremely high level of combat capability.

[Fweee!]

A swift and sharp whistle rang out.

The roaring flames spewed by Logan were, in an instant, constricted by a rotating wind ring, drawing out a shrill screech; like a laser, it grazed across the Savage Deviljho's back and brought out a charred, bloody scar.

Precision Clustered Breath!

Different from Logan's sure-kill large-scale Clustered Breath, it abandoned the suppressive power brought by outputting flame at full strength and instead increased release and flight speed; with low energy consumption and easy control, paired with the higher temperature of the Calamity Flame after constriction, it likewise could inflict no small amount of damage.

After taking a hit, the Savage Deviljho counterattacked with a snapping pounce-and-bite. Amid the sonic boom, Logan instead actively lowered his flight altitude; the Heatblade Wings he had grown ever more proficient with in this battle flared to life, and as his figure wavered, he brushed past the Savage Deviljho, carving out a wound as he passed.

A gorgeous counter-swallow dive plunged toward the Savage Deviljho, which, unable to control its balance due to inertia, was rolling along the ground.

A pair of enormous light wings swept in succession, striking the opponent again and again.

Although Logan had never learned any swordsmanship, his bodily structure and those enormous light wings did not allow for any exquisite manipulations anyway.

Yet under the blessing of Mind's Eye and with the effect of the Acceleration Trait, Logan gave a perfect demonstration of what "fast and precise" meant.

If not for that hateful high-concentration dragon-element energy weakening the power of the light wings, Logan would even have had the confidence to hack this guy to death by brute force.

Streaks of crimson gashes appeared across the ground; basalt melted and then solidified again.

When the other side constructed a black-mist zone of dragon-element energy, Logan simply rose into the air, giving it no chance to use the mist as cover to launch a sneak attack.

Thus the entire battle rhythm remained under his control.

At this point, the Savage Deviljho, fighting purely on instinct, could neither flee nor win.

It was relying solely on its thick hide and tough flesh to tank the hits.

A Savage Deviljho that had lost its rationality was certainly terrifying: whether in output capability or physical qualities, everything had been greatly boosted, and each of its resistances had also become extremely exaggerated due to the overflowing dragon-element energy.

Paired with that outrageous instinct for combat precognition, it was practically a nightmare for the vast majority of monsters.

It was just that it had run into an opponent who could fly, was fast, could break defenses, crushed it in technique while staying cool-headed, and whose sixth sense was by no means inferior—someone who was dead set on killing it—and it was, in truth, being completely hard-countered.
