Chapter 147 - The Judgment of Seven Sins

A flash of white light burst forth as Erza donned the Black Wing Armor, marked with a white cross upon its breastplate, bat-like wings extending from its back. The sword in her hand had also transformed into a black single-handed blade.

The Black Wing Armor amplified the destructive power of a single strike—Erza was preparing for a decisive blow.

Black Wing · Moon Flash!

Her blade carved through the air, and even Jose, caught off guard, could not evade. The sword tore across his abdomen, and blood spurted violently.

"Once I've dealt with the two of you, I'll wipe out the rest of that trash as well." Jose's expression twisted into something hideous.

Yet amidst the battle, a faint sense of fear stirred within him. That he, Jose, could actually feel fear toward two brats—it was intolerable.

He clenched his fists. Perhaps only by succumbing to this rage could he steady himself. Sometimes anger drives out fear, giving birth to courage.

"Death Storm!"

Darkness surged as Jose gathered a massive torrent of black magic in both hands, fusing it into an overwhelming wave of destruction.

Unable to withstand such force, the entire control room collapsed in an instant.

The fighters crashed down into the lower floor—directly onto Natsu, who had been wandering lost.

"Ow—! Why are you guys falling from above?!" Natsu groaned, pinned beneath them.

A sinister laugh echoed through the hall.

Jose's face was contorted and feral. He hadn't expected the control room itself to collapse under the backlash of his own magic. His clothes were in tatters, his body covered in wounds—he looked utterly battered.

The tremendous noise drew Gray over from a nearby corridor.

"Give up already. This is checkmate." Noel said coolly.

Now it was four against one. Even when it was just Noel and Erza, they could fight him evenly. With Natsu and Gray joining in, Jose no longer had any chance of victory.

"Trash is trash. A few more pieces of garbage won't change anything." Jose sneered.

"Fire Dragon's Iron Fist!"

Enraged by Jose's words, Natsu erupted, his blazing fist slamming into Joseph's abdomen and sending him flying.

"So it's true—you're injured. Even your movements have slowed."

The strike had been one Jose should have easily avoided, but his body had failed to follow his mind.

"Noel! We'll stall him—don't let Jose interfere!"

Noel nodded and began chanting.

Incantation magic was rare. It required long recitations and was easily interrupted, but in return, its power was immense—some belonged among the ranks of true forbidden magic.

Suddenly, jet-black chains shot out from beneath Noel's feet. Even from afar, their ominous aura could be felt.

"Not good!" Erza reacted instantly.

The dark chains coiled around Noel, binding him. Jose's magic coursed along them, gnawing away at Noel's strength.

"O seeker of truth, I beseech thee… Judgment of the Law—"

Once such magic began, the chant could not be stopped.

The chains tightened, crushing the breath from Noel's chest.

"Pride… Envy… Wrath…" The litany of sins continued, uninterrupted.

In a flash of light, Erza shifted into her Flight Armor. Twin swords in hand, she sliced through the black chains, severing Jose's hold.

Freed, Noel gasped as relief washed over him.

"Fire Dragon's Roar!"

"Ice–Lancer!"

"Heaven's Wheel · Circle Sword!"

Silver blades rained toward Joseph, joined by Natsu's flames and Gray's icy lances, which curved to strike from behind.

Jose raised his left hand, pouring out a torrent of black magic. A devastating wave burst forth, annihilating every incoming attack.

"I've had enough of this." His cold gaze swept over the four Fairy Tail mages.

"Death Storm!"

Raising his right hand, Jose aimed at Noel. A storm of violent darkness erupted from the magic circle.

Adamantine Armor!

Erza's form shifted once more—into armor of gleaming white and deep blue, a pair of massive white shields in her hands. She threw herself in front of Noel, bracing against the oncoming storm.

The impact shattered the Adamantine Armor.

"Judgment."

As the final word left Noel's lips, a colossal set of scales manifested in the sky. Jose was wrenched upward, dragged onto its pan.

He struggled to muster his magic, but nothing would come.

"Within the Judgment of Truth, all magic is rendered powerless," Noel said weakly.

"I am the strongest! Once I break free, I'll destroy your guild—every last one of you!" Jose roared defiantly.

"Silence during judgment." A voice of absolute authority rang out.

"For your arrogance—you are guilty of Pride."

"For your envy of Fairy Tail—you are guilty of Envy."

"For your cruelty toward the kingdom's people—you are guilty of Wrath."

"For your sloth, seeking gain without effort—you are guilty of Sloth."

"For coveting the wealth of the Heartfilia family—you are guilty of Greed."

"For stealing lives—you are guilty of Gluttony."

"For lusting after Lucy Heartfilia—you are guilty of Lust."

A golden radiance tore through the heavens, rending even the clouds. The colossal scales dissolved into a white vortex, from which blazing words of judgment descended.

Each sin was branded upon Joses body. A sacred light spread outward, engulfing all.

"The Judgment of Seven Sins—Jose cannot withstand it…" With those words, Noel collapsed.

Jose's magic drained away under the holy radiance. He resisted, but the weight of his sins was too great.

As Noel fell, he was caught by a pair of large, steady hands. He remembered them—those hands had once struck him. But now, they held him gently.

"…Sorry, old man. The guild still ended up destroyed." Natsu muttered, guilt heavy in his voice as he looked out at the ruined guildhall.

"I couldn't protect it either." Gray lowered his head in shame.

"I did my best." Erza forced out the words, swaying on her feet.

Natsu and Gray rushed to support her. At last, Erza released her stubborn front. She was exhausted—she just wanted to rest.

"You all did well. You even defeated Phantom Lord." Makarov's voice trembled with emotion.

"The children of Fairy Tail have grown. Each of you can stand tall on your own now. I may still see you as children, but when it matters most, each of you strives to protect what is precious to you."

"This… is Fairy Tail. Carrying the same belief, bearing different dreams, and holding the warmth of family."
