Evelyn did not respond to the man. Her eyes remained steady as she looked at him.
The man smiled faintly. "That is good. It will make things easier."
He pulled a chair and sat down in front of her.
"We will not waste time," he continued. "Tell me where the master key is."
Evelyn remained silent. Her expression did not change.
The man watched her for a moment, then sighed lightly.
"You are making this difficult," he said.
He gave a slight nod to the men standing behind her. Without hesitation, one of them stepped forward and struck her.
Her body jerked slightly from the impact, but no sound escaped her lips.
The man leaned forward.
"You are trained," he said. "I know that. You know how to endure pain."
He paused before continuing, "But everyone has a limit."
Evelyn slowly lifted her head and looked at him.
"There are things," she said calmly, "that do not break."
The man's smile faded slightly. He leaned back in his chair.
"Let us test that," he said.
