The tent is warm, quiet, and gently lit by the flickering glow of enchanted firestones embedded in the seams.
Veyra lies face down on the bedroll, her fragile frame tucked beneath a light fur blanket, her back exposed and pale as moonlight. Lucien's fingers press gently into her shoulders, coaxing out the tension buried deep in the muscle. His shadow tendrils swirl and undulate across her spine, massaging in rhythmic pulses of pressure and warmth.
"You were saying," Lucien murmurs, his voice low, "you had to leave your forest?"
Veyra moans softly, her head resting on her folded arms. "Mmhm... My village was nestled in the Whispering Canopy, just above the sapphire rivers of Elun'Thalor. My people used magic to grow our homes from the trees, shaping branches like clay."
Lucien raises a brow. "Sounds dreamy."
"It was, until they realized I was good at killing things." Her voice turns wistful. "At first, I was just tinkering. Little traps. Toys. But then, siege weapons. Catapults, flame-throwing treants, golems of bark and stone. I was good. Too good."
"They got scared?"
"They said I'd been corrupted. That no wood-elf should enjoy destruction." She pauses. "So they banished me. Sent me into the world. Alone."
Lucien's hands pause. Then, gently, he leans forward, brushing a lock of fire-colored hair from her cheek. "You weren't corrupted. You just saw the world for what it was. Cruel, unfair. You adapted."
She turns her head, her green eyes luminous in the low light. "And then I found you."
Lucien gives her a smile, warm and genuine. "I'm glad you did."
Veyra shifts under his touch, rolling slowly onto her back. The blanket slips away, revealing the full curve of her body.
Slim, softly toned, glowing faintly in the ambient light. Her cheeks flush, and her lips part slightly.
Her voice comes in a whisper.
"I want to be yours," she says. "Truly. All of me. But I've never been with anyone before." She pauses, drawing in a breath. "Can you be gentle?"
Lucien's smirk fades into something softer. He reaches up, brushes his thumb across her cheek. "I promise," he says quietly. "I'll treat you like the treasure you are."
He pulls off his shirt in a single motion, the firelight catching on the chiseled lines of his torso. Veyra reaches out with trembling fingers, helping him unbuckle the leather of his pants. Her touch is delicate, hesitant, but fully eager.
Just as he leans in to kiss her neck, Veyra clears her throat.
"Um..." she mutters, eyes turning to Serenith.
The voice from across the tent comes flatly. "What?"
Lucien twists around, flicking his head sharply toward the door. "Out."
Serenith scoffs from her chair. "You've had no problem plowing half the Ash Wastes with me in the room all month. What's so different—"
Then she catches the look on Veyra's face.
Blushing, vulnerable, clearly trying to muster courage.
Serenith's scowl melts into something almost apologetic. "Ah, got it."
She rises to her feet, brushing off her robe, and walks toward the tent flap. Before stepping out, she gives Lucien a glare. "Be gentle with her, or I swear I'll zap your dick off."
Lucien grins. "You always know just how to lift the mood."
As the flap closes behind her, the cool air of the mine returns faintly. Serenith sighs, sits beside the fire just outside the tent, and waits.
Then, the faintest, breathiest moan slips through the fabric.
She chuckles to herself. "Gods help me. He's actually being romantic."
Inside, Lucien lowers himself over Veyra with agonizing patience, letting his weight settle against her by inches, letting her feel every bit of it before he moves. He kisses a slow line down her throat, across her collarbone, pausing at every hitch of her breath like he's reading a map only he can see. His shadow tendrils never fully retreat, still curling lazily around her wrists, her thighs, a second pair of hands that never stop worshipping her.
When he finally sinks into her, she gasps, back arching off the bedroll, fingers clawing into the furs beneath her. He holds still, forehead pressed to hers, waiting for her breathing to steady before he moves again, slow and deep, savoring the way she trembles under him like a bowstring finally loosed.
"You're doing so well," he murmurs against her lips, and she whimpers his name like a prayer.
The moans grow in frequency and intensity, and Serenith's concerns grow alongside them.
Then comes a shriek.
The angel's eyes widen. She scrambles to her feet, throws open the flap, and stops.
Lucien is flat on his back, arms behind his head, his signature smug smirk plastered across his face while Veyra is atop him, hair wild and cascading, cheeks burning red as she rides him like a woman possessed, her small hands braced against his chest, hips rolling in a rhythm that keeps stuttering out of her control the closer she gets to the edge.
"...Of course," Serenith mutters.
Lucien glances at her and throws her a wink.
Veyra squeals again, her voice bouncing between moan and cry. Lucien gently guides her hips, meeting her rhythm with a deeply penetrating patience, one shadow tendril curling up to tease along her spine while another steadies the small of her back, anchoring her through every shuddering wave.
She's fully in control. He's simply her willing foundation for pleasure.
Serenith slowly backs away, shaking her head and giggling. "This man is a damned anomaly."
She drops back into her seat, pulls a flask from from a tiny portal, and takes a swig. "Might as well enjoy the soundtrack," she mutters.
Hours later, Lucien steps out of the tent, shirtless, hair tousled, grinning from ear to ear.
Serenith gives him a slow, sarcastic clap.
He bows low. "It wasn't my best work, but the client seems satisfied."
"She was chanting your name," Serenith says. "While speaking in tongues."
Lucien shrugs, stretching lazily. "She's got potential."
Serenith's voice turns quieter, thoughtful. "You know, I've doubted you every step of the way. All this construction, conquest, debauchery. Everything always seems like it's for you."
Lucien's smile falters slightly.
"But what you did in there, that was almost actually kinda sweet. Debauched and sinful, sure, but sweet."
Lucien meets her gaze, suddenly serious. "I do want to help people, Serenith. I want to build something better. But all I've ever known, my whole life, is business and sex. So that's what I use. Because I'm damn good at it."
He steps forward and drops to one knee.
Serenith blinks.
Then he reaches for her hand.
As soon as his fingers touch hers, his skin begins to sear and smoke, holy light flaring up where they make contact. But he doesn't flinch.
"I'll make you proud," he says, voice cracking slightly. "No matter what it takes."
Serenith gasps.
His fingers are burning away, but he keeps smiling through the pain. His eyes shimmer. Not with lust, but conviction.
"You idiot," she whispers.
But she doesn't move. She can't. Her lips part slightly, her eyes flutter, her heart beats unnaturally, and just as her head begins to lean forward and her eyes fall shut—
"MY LORD!"
Veyra bursts from the tent, frantically looking around. When she sees him, she gasps and falls to her knees. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean to fall asleep after you gave me the best night of my life! I-I think I blacked out—"
Lucien chuckles. "It's fine. I want you well-rested before we take on the dragon. Back to bed with you, beautiful. I'll join in a moment."
She grins, bows, and squeals before hurrying back inside.
Lucien turns back to Serenith, still holding her hand, though now only bones remain of his. He releases her slowly, wincing as his ash magic stitches flesh back over the charred remnants.
Serenith sighs and reaches up to her halo.
"Wait, what are you—"
With a pained grimace, she grips the glowing ring of light and pulls.
A sharp flash of radiance bursts from her as the halo separates from her head. Lucien covers his eyes, blinking rapidly.
When he looks again, she stands before him.
No wings, no glow, her divine energy dimmed. She holds the halo in her hands like a crown of thorns.
"What are you doing?" he whispers.
She steps close. "This is what I look like when I'm not bound to celestial duty. Not a watcher. Not an angel. Just a woman."
Before he can speak again, she leans in and kisses him softly on the lips.
Lucien freezes.
It isn't fiery. It isn't hungry.
It's warm. Sincere. Real.
When she pulls away, he stands stunned, eyes wide, heart pounding in his chest like a war drum.
She smiles, slips the halo back over her head, and with a burst of light, her wings return, her glow restored.
Lucien stares, dumbfounded. "Did you just—"
"Shh." Serenith presses a finger to his lips, smirking.
