Seeing that even Mika was clueless, Nadia had no choice but to turn around and shake her head.
The reaction was immediate.
"Oh no—oh no, no, no—"
"What are we going to do?"
"Is it over? Is it really over?"
"We made it this far—we dismantled five bombs—and now we're going to fail at the last moment?"
Despair crashed over the command center like a tidal wave.
The technicians slumped in their chairs. The officers lowered their heads.
Some of the bomb squad members, still on the screens, stared blankly at their cameras, their earlier euphoria replaced by cold, creeping dread.
A feeling of cold, creeping dread settled over everyone.
Especially the personnel physically present at the hospital. Before, they'd at least been coordinating from relatively safe distances.
But now they were standing at ground zero for the sixth device, realizing they might simply cease to exist in the next few minutes.
