After pulling back from the group hug, Fauna's eyes immediately locked onto Mika.
She held out both hands, fingers wiggling expectantly, her wings fluttering with barely contained excitement.
It was her turn. She wanted to carry him now.
But the moment Nadia saw those outstretched hands, her eyes narrowed dangerously.
She pulled Mika back against her chest, away from Fauna's reach.
Fauna blinked. Confused, she flapped forward and tried again.
But Nadia pulled back again, taking several steps through the air.
Fauna tilted her head, her smile faltering. She tried a third time—reaching, grabbing, completely oblivious to the silent war raging before her.
But once again, Nadia retreated further, her grip on Mika tightening like a vise before she finally asked,
"What do you think you're doing, Fauna?"
Fauna blinked innocently, her hands still outstretched.
