Chapter 729 - The Cruelty of Fate

But even as the divine thunder completely drowned his last shred of hope, there was no gap in the formation. He was utterly engulfed by the thunder, filled with endless resentment and regret.

In just a second, his Primordial Soul was shattered. Not even a trace remained. Tian Li's body was obliterated as well.

As if venting its anger, the thunder left nothing behind.

In that moment, Song Wanníng seemed to feel the Heavenly Dao's satisfaction.

She let out a small smile.

The Heavenly Dao has its rules. Even if it wants to punish Tian Li, it still has to use its own hand. Just like that divine thunder, under normal circumstances, it couldn't be mobilized by the Heavenly Dao.

But with her own intervention, it was different.

Now, only by gradually perfecting the Heavenly Dao's rules could it restore itself fully and stand a better chance against the final counterattack from the Mùsù star system's Heavenly Dao.

After all, the Mùsù star system's Heavenly Dao could act recklessly, but this world's Heavenly Dao couldn't. It had to consider the lives of countless beings. It had to think about millions, maybe billions, of years of development. And right now, she was more like a blade of the Heavenly Dao.

Song Wanníng lowered her gaze. The surrounding storm had died down, but the formation still remained. Countless divine thunders had only restricted the evil creatures. The formation itself remained unbreakable.

Tian Li was dead, yet the formation still had no known weakness.

Song Wanníng frowned, feeling a twinge of worry. Her understanding of formations was average at best. Otherwise, maybe she could have figured out a solution. She let out a sigh and sat down, a bit frustrated.

There was no rush to figure it out immediately, so she might as well rest a little. Although Immortal energy could be generated endlessly, her Primordial Soul's power couldn't cycle. She was truly exhausted.

"Sister, what kind of messed-up formation is this? Not even divine thunder can destroy it!"

Long Ling complained, clearly annoyed. "What exactly is that Mùsù star system anyway?"

"Why's it so insane?"

Xiao Jin was equally curious. That Mùsù star system's Heavenly Dao had been bothering Song Wanníng since the lower realms.

Now it was going even further, awakening invading beings just to go after her. It was enough to show how despicable that rotten Heavenly Dao really was.

Song Wanníng was curious too, but she'd only heard snippets from Tian Li. She didn't truly understand the Mùsù star system's Heavenly Dao.

She was about to speak when suddenly the moon above was covered by clouds.

A chill ran through Song Wanníng's heart. Before she could even stand, the scene in front of her shifted dramatically.

The original formation had vanished.

In its place were towering buildings with cold, rigid structures, simple yet jarring. From afar, they seemed to pierce the clouds.

The streets were littered with ruins. Unknown objects, broken and scattered, filled the roads.

Song Wanníng flew through the air, curiosity piqued, surveying her surroundings. If she guessed correctly, this was the Mùsù star system…

But why was she trapped in this illusion?

Before she could ponder further, a terrified scream echoed from afar.

Two figures came running, staggering and screaming nonstop.

Song Wanníng looked and saw an elderly man pulling a child along the street.

Behind them, a monster was in pursuit.

The old man ran with trembling legs, terrified, but he never let go of the child's hand. He was determined to protect them.

They seemed to be speaking, but Song Wanníng couldn't understand a word. She could tell the elder was desperate, probably trying to buy the child time to escape alone. The child stubbornly shook their head, refusing to leave. Both were in tears, eyes filled with despair.

Soon, the monster reached them.

The elder made a split-second decision, throwing the child forward, then rushing at the monster with a weapon in hand.

The child screamed in despair, tears streaming uncontrollably.

It didn't matter. The elder was bitten to death, collapsing into a pool of blood. Even in death, the elder's eyes were filled with concern for the child.

The child wailed in agony, trying to run but too weak.

The monster lunged and swallowed them whole.

In seconds, only bones remained.

Satisfied, the monster licked its lips and moved on.

Song Wanníng watched everything, her gaze cold, a hint of killing intent lurking within. These people were powerless mortals, not even a match for the monsters.

These monsters were similar to the invaders that had attacked their world before, but now they were more developed, able to walk upright.

A subtle emotion flashed in Song Wanníng's eyes as she continued following the monsters. She witnessed countless cruel scenes.

One ordinary person after another was slaughtered. They screamed in pain, begged for mercy. Some fought desperately for their families, others betrayed and fled for themselves. But all of them died horribly.

The cries of despair filled her ears. Those hopeless faces kept replaying before her. Even someone as hardened as Song Wanníng couldn't remain indifferent.

She watched this scene for years. Once-prosperous cities were emptied piece by piece. No signs of life remained, cities turned into dead towns.

She finally came across an elderly woman with graying hair, slumped and crying at her doorway. Her family was gone, and she no longer wished to live.

When Song Wanníng appeared, the woman lifted her head and stared straight at her. It was the first time anyone had noticed her.

Song Wanníng studied the woman curiously.

"Please… save us," the old woman sobbed, despair weighing down every word. The deep wrinkles on her face seemed etched with heartache and pain.

"We're all innocent. We didn't do anything… so why… why is everyone dying?

We've never done evil. We donate to poor children and bring water and tea to sanitation workers every year. My son and daughter-in-law are kind people, even my grandson knows to help the elderly across the street.

Our family has never done anything wrong… so why is this happening to us?"

Tears streamed down her face, mixing with blood. She shivered violently, consumed by pain. She truly didn't understand why her innocent family met such a fate.

The old woman lifted her gaze to Song Wanníng, eyes pleading endlessly.

"Please… save us. We're all innocent…"
