"First round, fifth match."
Kitazawa continued, "Hyuga Hinata vs. Shion!"
Shion was undoubtedly another Karin.
Both had mastered medical ninjutsu, sealing techniques, and monstrous strength.
Kimimaro's Shikotsumyaku was a hard counter to Monstrous Strength, and in a similar way, Hinata's Byakugan and Bow Ninjutsu kept it in check as well.
No matter how hard Shion tried to close the gap, Hinata never let her get within five meters. Forced to fight at a distance the entire time, Shion was eventually defeated by long-range attacks.
Time slipped by.
The first round drew to a close.
"First round, fifteenth match: Shino Aburame vs. Haku!"
Kitazawa's voice rang out.
Shino adjusted his glasses.
As he walked forward, he calmly ran through everything he knew about Haku.
The most troublesome was, without a doubt, his Ice Release—followed closely by his Water Release.
"Begin the battle!"
Kitazawa signaled.
"Water Release: Water Dragon Bullet Technique!"
Haku's hands flashed through seals, and a massive water dragon roared into existence.
Shino raised his arms.
Dense blue water insects swarmed out from his sleeves—these were the special strain resistant to water release.
They surged forward and collided with the oncoming water dragon.
With a thunderous boom, water exploded in all directions, drenching the ground nearby.
Seeing this, Haku immediately formed more hand seals.
"Ice Release: Shattering Ice Crystals!"
A chilling aura burst out. The scattered water froze in an instant, trapping the Water Insects in ice.
The next moment, the frozen mass shattered and shot toward Shino as a storm of razor-sharp ice shards.
Shino frowned.
He hadn't expected Ice Release and Water Release to be chained together like that, costing him the initiative.
Fortunately, his reaction was swift.
"Secret Technique: Insect Wall Technique!"
A thick cloud of Kikaichu flew out, forming a wall in front of him.
The ice shards slammed into the swarm, killing many of the Kikaichu on impact.
Using that brief opening, Shino retreated and swept his hands forward.
"Bee Bomb Technique!"
Several bees shot toward Haku.
Haku's counter was simple and precise—he flung several kunai.
The kunai struck the bees, triggering explosions mid-air.
"Summoning Technique!"
Shino bit his thumb and slammed his hand to the ground, summoning the Queen Bee.
The queen bee took to the sky.
Shino followed up by releasing a dense swarm of bees.
"Bee Senbon Technique!"
A rain of poisonous needle-like stingers poured down toward Haku.
"Water Release: Thousand needles of death!"
Haku answered with his own barrage—countless water senbon.
Poison needles and water needles collided in mid-air, scattering off each other.
At the same time, Shino sent his water insects charging straight ahead.
They ignored the water needles and rapidly closed in on Haku.
"Water Release: Instant Water!"
Haku slipped into the water spread across the ground and vanished.
Shino's heart jolted. He immediately moved away from the water-soaked area—but he was a step too slow.
Haku emerged not far from him, hands already forming seals.
"Ice Release: Demonic Mirroring Ice Crystals!"
Several ice mirrors rose up at once, surrounding where Shino stood.
Seeing the formation complete, Haku let out a small breath of relief.
He might have won this.
His figure blurred and disappeared into the mirrors, senbon raining down on Shino from all directions.
The senbon struck home; Shino collapsed to the ground—and then dissolved into sticky golden honey.
A Honey Clone.
Haku froze for a moment, instantly realizing something was wrong.
Hidden at a distance, the real Shino allowed himself a quiet sigh of relief.
He had prepared the Honey Clone earlier, using the chaos from the bee explosions as cover.
He knew all too well how terrifying Haku's Demonic Mirroring Ice Crystals was.
Once caught inside, defeating Haku would be extremely difficult.
"Honey Technique!"
Without hesitation, Shino raised his hand.
The queen bee and the countless bees soared higher, releasing a massive wave of beeswax.
Like a golden torrent, the beeswax splashed over every ice mirror, sealing them all—Haku included.
Unable to move, Haku was completely restrained, and the battle came to an end.
"Winner: Shino Aburame!"
Kitazawa declared.
"Haku's gotten so strong too," Kiba said with feeling.
"If Shino hadn't avoided his demonic mirroring ice crystals in advance, it might have been Haku's win," Tenten agreed with a nod.
"This is only the first round," Shikamaru muttered, rubbing his temples. "At my level, I feel like I'll be lucky to make it to the third round."
"Youth is all about fighting!" Lee thrust his thumb up. "This really makes one's blood boil!"
"Yeah!" Naruto shouted excitedly. "The battles coming up are gonna be even more full of youth!"
"The first round ends here. Everyone, take a fifteen-minute break," Kitazawa announced after a brief pause. "A total of fifteen students will advance to the second round. The last one will receive a bye."
"Tsunade-sensei, how was it?"
During the break, Kitazawa walked over to Tsunade.
She was seated alone at a table right in the middle of the stands, occupying the entire space by herself.
"How was what?"
Tsunade shot him a sidelong glance. "Are you looking for me to praise you for a job well done?"
"Verbal praise alone won't satisfy me," Kitazawa said, shamelessly dropping into the seat to her left.
"Then you'll just have to wait," Tsunade snorted softly.
She knew exactly what kind of reward Kitazawa was after, but agreeing too easily would be letting him off cheap. She planned to make him stew for a while.
"Tsunade-sensei," Kitazawa felt a rush of excitement, "then I'll look forward to it."
Based on his understanding of her, as long as Tsunade didn't reject him outright, it meant there was a chance.
The fifteen-minute break passed in a flash.
One by one, the spectators straightened up, turning their attention back to the arena.
It was only the end of the first round of the Genius Class graduation exam, yet the audience was already stunned.
Compared to this, even the Chunin Exams and Jonin assessments didn't seem nearly as outrageous.
Every student in the Genius Class had shown strength far beyond their age.
Especially Naruto and Sasuke.
At only eleven or twelve, they were already stronger than many Jonin.
The scene made countless shinobi truly feel the weight of the saying: "The new generation surpasses the old."
"Second round, first match."
Leaving the spectator stands, Kitazawa walked to the lottery box and called out loudly, "Ino Yamanaka versus Tayuya!"
"Ino, I won't go easy on you," Tayuya said, glancing at her.
They were on good terms, but this was about rankings. She had no intention of getting knocked out in the second round.
"I don't need you to go easy on me either." Ino flashed a confident smile. "I've become much stronger!"
Tayuya snorted lightly. "Me too."
Ino nodded and stepped into the center of the field.
Tayuya moved to the opposite side.
"Battle start!"
Kitazawa withdrew to the sidelines.
Tayuya bit her thumb and slammed her hand onto the ground.
Summoning Technique!
With a burst of smoke, her three wrathful demons appeared.
Ino remained calm and took out a scroll.
Tayuya froze for a moment, puzzled, but didn't hesitate. She raised her flute and used Demonic Flute: Phantom War Symphony.
The eerie flute music rang out. Under her control, the Three Wrathful Demons charged straight at Ino.
A thunderous impact shook the arena.
Before the massive Summoning Beasts, the petite Ino looked as if she could be crushed at any moment.
Super beast imitation drawing!
Ino unrolled the scroll and swiftly drew two lions.
As soon as the ink took shape, the lions sprang from the paper and pounced at the two nearest rage demons.
Ino didn't pause. Her brush moved again, this time shaping a python.
The python shot forward at incredible speed, coiling toward the third rage demon.
In the blink of an eye, the Three Wrathful Demons were entangled by the lions and the python.
Six giant beasts crashed and roared across the arena in a chaotic melee.
"What kind of ninjutsu is that?" Sakura's eyes widened in surprise.
It was her first time seeing Super beast imitation drawing—Ino had only just learned it recently.
"This looks a lot like Yakumo's Bloodline Limit," Tenten muttered, instinctively glancing toward Yakumo.
"This is Super beast imitation drawing," Yakumo explained. "Kitazawa-sensei taught it to her."
"As expected, it was taught by Kitazawa-sensei," Shikamaru said with a sigh.
"How is Ino also secretly getting stronger?" Kiba clenched his fists.
"Maybe Tayuya is getting stronger too," Jugo replied calmly.
"…"
Kiba fell silent.
Even though he himself had improved a lot, if everyone else was also getting stronger, then the gap between them wasn't really closing.
While they were talking, a loud crash echoed across the field.
One of the rage demons swung its giant wooden club and smashed a tiger apart.
Ino immediately activated Super beast imitation drawing again, creating a new tiger in its place.
"No wonder you're so confident," Tayuya exhaled, unable to hold back a grudging note of admiration.
If her summoning beasts couldn't decide the fight, then she'd have to step in personally.
Cursed Seal of Earth: Stage Two!
Tayuya's body transformed in an instant.
Her skin and eyes darkened to pitch black, her red hair lengthened, and two pairs of white horns sprouted from the sides of her head.
Ino's gaze sharpened.
It was her first time seeing Tayuya use the Curse Mark of Earth, but she understood the situation instantly.
When Kimimaro and Jugo had activated the Curse Mark of Earth, their bodies and appearances had also undergone drastic changes.
Ino immediately realized this fight had just gotten much harder.
Under Cursed Seal of Earth: Stage Two, Tayuya's power had skyrocketed.
"Is that the Curse Mark of Earth?"
Tenten watched for a moment before voicing the question.
"Yeah."
Jugo nodded. He'd once accidentally witnessed Tayuya using the Curse Mark of Earth.
"When did Tayuya learn the Curse Mark?"
Kiba's mouth twitched. His earlier prediction had come true: both Tayuya and Ino had become much stronger.
"It should've been about half a month ago," Jugo guessed.
"Ino's in trouble now… I wonder if she can win."
Sakura spoke with clear worry.
She might bicker with Ino all the time, but at critical moments, she still stood firmly on her side.
The moment she entered Cursed Seal of Earth: Stage Two, Tayuya rushed Ino without hesitation.
Her speed surged; she was on Ino in almost an instant.
Demonic Illusion: Tree Binding Death!
Locking eyes with Ino, Tayuya immediately unleashed her genjutsu.
Ino had anticipated it. The instant their eyes met, her body scattered into leaves and vanished.
Tayuya's brows knit together.
She glanced at the three entangled rage demons and raised her flute.
At the sound, the three wrathful demons shuddered, their power surging. They quickly finished off the lions and python that had been restraining them.
The tune shifted. At Tayuya's command, the Three Wrathful Demons split up, charging toward Ino from three directions.
"Ino, you can't escape!"
The corners of Tayuya's mouth lifted; she was certain victory was hers.
Ino looked left and right.
Tayuya and the Three Wrathful Demons had her completely boxed in from four sides.
But she didn't panic. She immediately formed hand seals.
Darkness Genjutsu.
Seeing this, Tayuya hastily ordered the Three Wrathful Demons to attack.
A heartbeat later, she froze.
All light vanished. Her world was swallowed by pitch‑black darkness.
"What's going on?"
A ripple of panic ran through her.
Super beast imitation drawing!
Ino didn't give her the slightest chance to adjust.
Chakra flared as she released a torrent of ink beasts—lions, tigers, pythons, and more all surged forth at once.
Hearing movement in the darkness, Tayuya frantically directed the Three Wrathful Demons to guard around her.
But there were too many beasts. The Three Wrathful Demons couldn't block them all.
Tayuya wasn't a taijutsu-type ninja and had no good way to handle so many close‑range attackers.
Blinded and overwhelmed, she had no choice but to admit defeat.
"The winner: Ino Yamanaka!"
Kitazawa nodded and announced in a clear voice.
The combination of darkness genjutsu and Super beast imitation drawing had proved unexpectedly effective.
"Thank you, Kitazawa-sensei!"
Ino burst forward and practically bounced up to him, excitement written all over her face.
"This is only the second round."
Kitazawa flicked her forehead with a raised hand, reminding her, "Release your darkness genjutsu."
Only then did Ino remember that Tayuya was still trapped in the dark.
She stuck out her tongue sheepishly at Kitazawa, then quickly dispelled the darkness genjutsu.
"What kind of ninjutsu is that supposed to be now?"
Kiba asked, already feeling a headache coming on.
"I don't know."
Sakura shook her head.
A moment ago she'd been worried Ino would lose; now she was worried about losing to Ino herself.
That Darkness Genjutsu plus Super beast imitation drawing combo looked like a real pain to deal with.
"It's a genjutsu."
Sasuke's voice was low.
In his eyes, Ino's overall strength was still far below his own, but that darkness genjutsu put a bit of pressure on him.
A technique that completely erased vision was a natural counter to the Sharingan.
Even so, he had the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. He was confident he could react before she cast the Darkness Genjutsu.
What if it hadn't been Ino, but an opponent with strength on par with his?
Fortunately, no such opponent existed.
At least Naruto didn't know darkness genjutsu.
Just then, Ino and Tayuya walked off the field.
"Ino, what kind of genjutsu is that?" Yakumo asked curiously.
She felt that this darkness genjutsu suited her very well—and it surprised her.
Ever since awakening her genjutsu bloodline limit, she'd believed there was no need to learn other ninjutsu. Yet now she'd seen a genjutsu like Darkness Genjutsu, and even she found its effect extremely tempting.
"It's Darkness Genjutsu, created by the Second Hokage, Senju Tobirama-sama," Ino explained. She paused, then added with a smile, "Kitazawa-sensei taught it to me."
"No wonder it's so powerful," Yakumo murmured, realization dawning on her face.
In the stands, the audience had broken into discussion.
"Was that darkness genjutsu?" Shikaku asked, clearly stunned.
Fugaku, on the other hand, was struggling to keep his composure.
At a glance, Darkness Genjutsu was obviously meant to counter the Uchiha clan. If the current Uchiha still needed to worry about being targeted, he would have already put Ino on his watch list.
"It seems Ino's talent for genjutsu is very high," Tsunade said with a light laugh.
This Kitazawa really teaches everything.
From the perspective of maintaining power, that wasn't necessarily a good thing. High-level ninjutsu and secret techniques were precious resources—normally, one had to pay a price to obtain them.
But with Konoha currently flourishing, no one was too concerned about such minor issues.
"It's all because Kitazawa teaches well," Inoichi immediately said.
Under normal circumstances, Ino would never have had the chance to learn darkness genjutsu. Whether based on merit or status, it simply wouldn't be permitted.
Hiashi, Shibi, and the others all nodded in agreement.
Their own children were receiving similar treatment, so there was little room for envy.
"Second round, second match," Kitazawa announced, drawing two small slips of paper.
"Shikamaru versus Choji!"
