Chapter 87 - Chapter 85: A Farewell Beneath the Stars

◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆

How strong was she, exactly? Even Konata herself didn't have a clear answer.

Her quirk Fantasy granted her the abilities of characters she knew, while Reality allowed her to use all those abilities at once. Fantasy and Reality had never truly been separate to begin with. As she unlocked more and more "characters" in the future, and as the limits of Reality weakened, her strength would only keep growing.

Right now, she couldn't launch direct attacks—but under Reality, she could already use Hatsune Miku's abilities in actual combat.

In other words, for All For One to truly harm her, he would first have to grind through the equivalent of a million stacked HP bars.

Until then—she was invincible.

"When did—"

The cold voice from behind made his entire body freeze. Even though he had already overestimated her, he still underestimated her. He had almost no time to react. The moment her voice fell, an overwhelming sense of danger pierced every corner of his body.

[Super Regeneration] + [Super Hardening] + [Insulation]

In the shortest time possible, he chose the optimal combination based on what she had shown before, layering three quirks onto himself.

The next instant, his body was blasted forward uncontrollably. A deep slash tore across his back, cutting nearly to the bone. If not for Super Hardening, he would have been split clean in two.

Then—

A bolt of lightning over ten meters thick engulfed him completely.

The deafening roar and blinding light shattered everything. The iron sand walls Konata had set up were obliterated instantly, and the shockwave swept across Kamino like a hurricane.

For a moment, night turned into day.

Crimson wings unfurled as Konata hovered in the air, letting out a quiet breath as she looked down.

At the bottom of the massive crater lay a man, his body mangled and burned. His mask had long since been destroyed, revealing a horrifying face like peeled flesh. Even insulation meant nothing under that level of lightning.

Below her, the battlefield was beyond ruined. In just a few minutes, the entire area had been erased. The ground itself had been carved down by more than three meters, shattered like something hacked apart by blades and axes. The Nomu factory had already been mostly destroyed during the fight—now it was nothing but rubble.

"…Why does this feel like a large-scale demolition site?"

After staring for a few seconds, she nodded thoughtfully, casually breaking whatever tension remained.

The nearby Nomu had gone motionless with All For One's defeat. She glanced at them once, then lost interest—heroes would handle the rest.

Besides, people below had already recognized her. Naturally, she was being treated as the culprit behind everything. Given how she looked now, she really did resemble a villain.

Not that she cared.

Lowering her head, she looked at her right hand, which had almost completely faded away. Then she raised her gaze to the night sky.

From afar, a figure was rushing toward them at incredible speed.

All Might.

And not just him—Midoriya Izuku and many others had already locked onto this place the moment the power across Kamino went out. Reinforcements were coming fast.

"…Whatever. I'll go finish him off first."

Shaking off her thoughts, Konata descended to the edge of the crater.

She didn't think he could survive that attack—but considering that All Might once crushed his head and he still came back, she decided it was better to be safe and "finish the job."

Strictly speaking, there wasn't any deep grudge between them. Sure, he had tried to steal her quirk—but that ended up benefiting her, giving her another quirk. Otherwise, with how unreliable her system was, who knew when she'd ever get such a perfectly matched ability?

And after that, he even played the role of a father quite properly… and even lent her a full 100,000 yen.

Killing him just because she was worried he might harm her friends…

Wasn't that a bit much?

After thinking for a moment, she found a perfectly "reasonable" justification and nodded to herself.

"If I kill you… then I won't have to pay back that 100,000 yen… yeah, I'm a genius!!"

The man lying on the ground, pretending to be dead—

He wasn't dead yet, but he was close. The damage she dealt was even worse than when All Might crushed his head. Forget escaping—he wasn't sure he could even stand.

And with her apparent habit of finishing off her enemies…

He had long since given up resisting. But there was one thing he wanted to know.

Why did she hate him this much?

And then—he heard her muttering.

By the time she reached his side, looking down at him up close—

"…I wonder," she murmured, her voice airy and distant. "Which part of him would even taste better?"

She paused, blinking as if coming out of a trance. "Huh. Why do I suddenly feel hungry again?"

Such a bizarre scene unfolded before them.

All might stared at the bottom of the crater, the man he once hated so deeply—All For One—lay there, barely recognizable.

The raging anger inside had long turned into pure shock. The expected fierce battle never came.

"All Might."

The girl's voice sounded behind him.

Turning around, All Might realized something was very wrong with her.

Light. Hollow. Almost nonexistent—like a shadow with no weight or substance.

Waving her hand, Konata spoke casually,

"We can talk about that later. I'll take you to Recovery Girl first."

All Might frowned, glancing at the unmoving figure in the crater. He had countless questions—but right now, her condition mattered more.

"I already said you don't need to worry about me, All Might."

She sighed helplessly, easily shaking off his attempt to approach.

"You really shouldn't have come… this was clearly a trap for you."

Her body was already on the verge of collapse.

"Just wait a bit. I can't maintain this state for long."

"From now on, you are forbidden from using your power."

Her fading became more obvious—what was once half her body had now spread further. Her very existence was burning away.

"…This is troublesome."

In an instant, she appeared in front of him.

Then—

Without hesitation, she pressed her hand against his chest.

A soft, emerald-like glow flowed into him—everything she had left, all of it poured into All Might.

Like passing a ball.

"Pretty genius idea, right?"

She smiled faintly.

"Now you won't have to face that overwhelming malice anymore… This is a good ending, isn't it?"

"…You call this a good ending?"

"All Might… do you know the price of using 'Fantasy'?"

She pointed at her fading body.

"I won't run away anymore."

"…So yeah. Farewells are the most troublesome thing."

Behind her, All Might stood in silence, fists clenched tightly.

Twenty minutes later, in the nearest hospital.

Konata, now almost completely transparent, lay on the bed with a lifeless expression.

"…Seriously. This sucks."

Unable to bear the atmosphere, someone quietly left the room.

Silence.

After a while, she sat up and spoke softly,

"We'll meet again."

She turned to Todoroki.

"Todoroki… you still owe me one request, right?"

He nodded silently.

Midoriya suddenly turned and walked toward the door, his shoulders trembling.

"Can you all step outside except Midoriya for a moment?" Konata's voice was barely a whisper.

Midoriya stopped.

"…Sorry. For hiding everything," she added softly.

When only the two of them remained, she spoke first.

"…Is there really no hope?"

"Hope… isn't it already in your hands?"

She smiled. "…I'm just afraid I won't live to see it."

Walking to the window, she opened it.

"But when you say goodbye… you have to smile."

Midoriya wiped his tears and nodded firmly.

"…We'll definitely meet again. Trust me."

"Aizawa-sensei and the others should be here by now. Midoriya… could you help call them in?"

After leaving those words behind—

"Midoriya… where is Konata?! Tell me—where is she now?!"

"Konata… she…"

The entire hospital room fell into an eerie silence.

Only a few shimmering fragments remained on the rumpled sheets.

As if she had never existed.

From the open window, the slightly cool summer night breeze drifted in, gently swaying the curtains.

Outside the window, the Milky Way stretched across a sky full of stars.

Sorry if this ending feels a bit abrupt, but I did my best to follow a friend's advice—it's never too late, after all. I know there are quite a few inconsistencies in this chapter, so please forgive me for that.

Also… yeah, it's almost half a year since my last update. Haha… my bad.
