Kusuo could feel the teams hiding around them beginning to form an encirclement.
Assassination Squad.
"Captain, this is the place. As long as we kill that person, we should earn a hefty commission."
Hearing their conversation, Kusuo knew they were mercenaries—rogue ninja from various villages who lived on the edge. Their job was to kill the target requested by their client. It seemed their current client wanted something from one of them, or wanted one of them dead.
Kusuo turned to look at Natsuhi. "Have you offended anyone recently?"
She quickly shook her head. "I always follow the village rules. I never leave, and even if I do, I return within a few days."
Kusuo was a bit surprised. The Star Village in the original story was indeed strict, but he didn't expect Natsuhi to be such a stickler for the rules. "Lord Kusuo, what should we do now?" she asked, a little flustered, as this was the first time she had been in such a situation.
"What can you do besides the Mysterious Peacock Method?"
His question caught her off guard. "Besides the Peacock Method? I suppose... only taijutsu." Her voice grew smaller as she spoke. Her taijutsu was probably only at the Chunin level. The Star Village only had two types of people: those who trained with the "Star's" power, and ordinary people with no chakra at all. Their taijutsu was only to better utilize the "Star's" power. Without the Peacock Method, she couldn't use many other ninjutsu.
"Alright," Kusuo said, having gotten a better understanding of her. Suddenly, his expression turned serious. "Left and right, three o'clock and nine o'clock!"
"Yes, Lord Kusuo!" Natsuhi quickly drew her shuriken and threw them in the directions he indicated. Sure enough, cries of pain immediately came from both directions. Hearing the sounds, she looked at him in shock. No matter how she looked at him, he didn't seem like a sensory-type ninja, yet his judgment of the enemy's position had been spot on.
"This is a critical moment. Don't look at me unless it's necessary," he chided.
Natsuhi immediately faced forward, her two shuriken held tightly. "Enemy directly in front."
As soon as he spoke, she threw her shuriken. Two more screams came from ahead. "Lord Kusuo, how did you know they were there?"
Hearing her question, Kusuo guessed that besides the Peacock Method, she was almost completely unskilled in other ninjutsu. But he wasn't angry. With her talent, if she received his careful guidance, her future potential would be limitless. "These are not things you can learn in a day. Focus on the enemy now."
Hearing this, Natsuhi gripped her shuriken tighter. She knew he was trying to train her.
Suddenly, Kusuo flickered in front of her. She was taken aback for a moment, then her cheeks flushed. "What are you thinking about?"
Hearing his cold voice, she snapped back to reality. "I'm sorry, Lord Kusuo. I was distracted."
Just as she finished speaking, she heard the sound of a blade clashing with shuriken behind him. "You're so weak, yet you're not focusing on the enemy. If I hadn't helped you, you would be dead by now."
His words made her immediately grip her weapons and stare intently ahead. But no matter how hard she concentrated, she couldn't find any trace of the enemy. "Lord Kusuo, can I use the Mysterious Peacock Method?"
He hesitated for a long moment. "You must understand, the 'Star' from your village is now in my hands, and the chakra within it has been completely extracted. The Peacock Method you can use now... it will be very difficult to recover the power once it's used. If you are confident, then do as you wish."
Natsuhi hesitated, but then immediately activated it. "Mysterious Peacock Method: Open." In an instant, wings formed of chakra bloomed around her. The enemies hiding in the distance were now clearly visible to her. This time, she didn't use ninja tools, but instead formed her chakra into projectiles.
Puchi, puchi... After a few sounds, the enemies in the distance all fell to the ground.
