Chapter 37 - Chapter 36: Danger in the DNA

"When memory is too sharp, it cuts the vessel.

And when blood carries too much truth…

it begins to burn itself."

—Aeria Novaah, Forbidden Fragment

---

The Novaah Flame Ark shimmered as it drifted across collapsed timelines, bearing Skyler, Aelira, and Eon toward a place even gods once denied:

The City of Ashes.

No map showed its location.

No Archive entry mentioned its name.

But Skyler could feel it in his veins—as if it was not a place he was going to, but one he was returning from.

And when they arrived…

…it was already burning.

---

Where the City of Stars was forged from memory-light and divine echoes, the City of Ashes was built from forgotten flame.

Ruins spiraled across an obsidian canyon. Towers blackened and twisted. Statues of faceless beings melted into their own reflections. And at the center, pulsing like a buried heart, stood a single monument:

A genetic obelisk—veined with crimson flame, humming with ancestral heat.

Skyler could hear it whispering.

"I was never meant to live."

"But I live in you."

---

Aelira recoiled as they approached the obelisk.

"That's not just memory," she gasped. "It's... organic."

"It's alive."

Eon nodded grimly.

"This city was erased because it stored something the Archive could not keep."

"A genetic truth. One that proves… the gods weren't just suppressors."

"They were... parasitic."

---

Skyler placed a hand on the obelisk.

And the world cracked open.

A blood-encoded projection erupted from the monument—gold, crimson, and black threads unraveling into a 3D map of Novaah genetic history.

Every strand of their bloodline rendered like flame-etched DNA. But something was wrong.

Intrusions.

Mutations.

Foreign segments embedded in the earliest strands.

Skyler's heart stopped.

"This isn't natural," he whispered.

"We were edited."

"The Novaah line didn't evolve with fire. It was injected."

---

Suddenly, the flame DNA responded to his presence—reshaping, glowing brighter.

New symbols emerged from the strands: divine signatures.

Skyler read them aloud:

"ΔEos.

ΔVireen.

ΔUthar.

ΔElion."

Eon's eyes widened.

"Those are the god-seal markers."

"This proves they didn't curse us...

They made us."

"Or tried to."

---

Skyler staggered back.

The implications shattered everything.

The gods didn't fear the Novaah bloodline because it remembered too much.

They feared it because it could remember them.

Their mistakes.

Their theft.

Their failures.

"They didn't create the Novaahs," Skyler said.

"They tried to rewrite us into something obedient."

"But our blood rejected it.

And turned that edit…

into a flame."

---

Suddenly, the obelisk cracked.

And from beneath it, something rose:

A sealed sarcophagus, glowing with every color of the Archive.

Words burned into its lid:

"Here sleeps the child the Archive could not remember."

The air turned cold.

Aelira stepped back.

"Sky… this isn't just memory anymore."

"It's life."

---

And as Skyler reached out, the sarcophagus began to unlock—seven flame-locks fading one by one.

Within it stirred the living result of divine tampering and Novaah rebellion:

A being made entirely of flame-DNA, with no soul—but all memory.

And it opened its eyes.

Eyes exactly like Skyler's.
