The carriage galloped fiercely, yanking Ji Mingyaun out of his thoughts. He glanced around, and there they were, still in the carriage, with Liang Chen gazing out the window.
It was all in his mind. How ridiculous, he told himself. From the window, Liang Chen watched him like a hawk. He had a few things to say, but then he dared not.
The ride continued in silence, and by the time they reached the palace, it was dark.
Liang Chen and Ji Mingyaun stepped down. Some ministers had returned home, but of course, the prime minister was not one of them. He jumped out, hastening his steps toward the empress's quarters to give a full report of the day's events.
Liang Chen did not care. He tiredly returned to his quarters, dismissing Shuming and Eunuch Shen. He could not wait to get away from the others.
