Author's Pov....
It was a quiet night. Almost too quiet.
The mansion was eerily still except for the ticking clock and the soft hum of the garden lamps outside.
Ren, dressed in his loose cotton pajamas, padded barefoot down the grand staircase, frowning in mild annoyance.
"Where is that guy now?" he muttered, clutching his phone. "I swear, Evan disappears whenever I need him. Typical."
Determined to call him home, Ren unlocked his phone and started dialing—but just then, the doorbell rang.
Ren blinked, startled.
"It's this late… Evan must've forgotten his keys again," he mumbled, jogging to the door and swinging it open without a second thought.
Only to freeze.
Standing there was a man in a crisp white coat, glasses perched on the tip of his nose, a stethoscope around his neck, and a medical bag in hand.
His silky hair was slightly tousled, his smile gentle—but his narrowed eyes sparkled with something dangerously mischievous.
"Good evening, Mr. Ren," the man said smoothly, brushing past him and stepping inside as if he owned the place. "I'm Dr. Felix. I've been assigned to your daily check-ups. House calls only."
Ren gawked, "Wait—house calls? I didn't schedule anything!"
"You didn't?" Felix blinked innocently. "Oh, my bad. Your husband scheduled them for you. It's urgent."
Ren narrowed his eyes suspiciously.
Evan. Of course, it was Evan.
"I don't remember agreeing to—"
Before he could finish, Felix had already grabbed his wrist, gently but firmly, and pressed two fingers to his pulse.
"Your heart rate is elevated," Felix murmured, way too close now. "Tell me, is this from the walk downstairs… or from seeing me?"
Ren yanked his hand back. "Don't flirt while taking vitals!"
"I'm not flirting, I'm diagnosing," Felix said smoothly, pulling a thermometer from his coat. "Open up."
Ren glared. "No."
But Felix tsked. "Patient non-compliance? Tsk tsk. I'm afraid I will have to restrain you."
Felix pulled a velvet ribbon from his pocket.
"…Why do you have that?"
"Standard medical procedure," Felix said with the most unapologetic smirk.
Ren backed away, his suspicion growing by the second. "You are Evan, aren't you?"
Felix tilted his head, pretending to think. "Who is Evan? I'm your personal doctor."
"You are not my—"
Suddenly, Felix stepped forward, resting his palm on Ren's forehead, his thumb brushing down Ren's temple to his cheek.
"Hmm, you are warm. Low-grade fever, perhaps?" Felix hummed, far too interested in touching him rather than actually checking his health.
His fingers slipped under Ren's chin, tilting it up.
"Say 'AH'."
Ren pushed his hand away. "I SAID I'M FINE."
Felix sighed dramatically. "Such a difficult patient. Perhaps I should conduct a…full body examination."
"WHAT KIND OF DOCTOR ARE YOU?!"
"A very thorough one."
Felix smoothly reached for the buttons of Ren's pajama top.
Ren slapped his hands away, his face heating up like a boiling kettle.
"Touch me one more time and I will throw you into the pool!" Ren barked, stepping backward until his back hit the wall.
Felix only smirked wider, cornering him. "Violence toward medical professionals is a serious offense, Mr. Ren. I might have to… detain you for further observation."
Ren's eye twitched. "Why do you keep cornering me?!"
"Because you are my favorite patient," Felix purred, ghosting his fingers along Ren's waist as he pretended to check his reflexes.
Ren grabbed a couch cushion and slammed it into Felix's chest.
"Personal. Space. Doctor."
Felix laughed softly, his glasses slipping down his nose as he adjusted them.
"You will come to love these daily check-ups, I assure you."
Ren stomped his foot like a frustrated child. "I'M CALLING EVAN."
Felix's smile grew dangerously sweet. "Oh, please do. I'd love to meet him."
Ren paused, realization dawning on his face.
"Oh no. OHNO. You are him, aren't you?!"
Felix twirled the stethoscope around his finger. "Me? I'm just your caring, reliable, fully certified house doctor."
"You are fake!" Ren accused.
"True," Felix admitted easily. "But I will make sure you are in perfect condition to handle the rest of us."
"US?!" Ren collapsed onto the couch, burying his face in his hands.
Felix crouched in front of him, gently tapping his knee. "Time for your vitamin gummies, sweetheart."
"GET OUT."
Felix stood, laughing as he walked away. "Same time tomorrow, darling."
Ren hurled the cushion at his retreating figure.
"Take your fake stethoscope with you, you lunatic!"
From down the hall, Felix's voice floated back: "Love you too~"
Ren groaned into his palms. "Someone please tell me this is a fever dream…"
Doctor? No, This Is Definitely Another Husband.
