Chapter 4 - Classes

Slayer body was slumped, with it's blood profusely seeping into the group, it landed with thud, when it finally lost the balance.

It helm flew out on impact, revealing a beautiful man, with blonde hair with pristine clear white skin. He landed face first.

Jake stood there dazed as he watch the whole scene unfolded.

He gasped, "What the hell just happened?!!!"

He turned towards the Gloomy, it's body radiating with black miasma, his frame a little bit more muscular than before. He was taller and leaner now.

A window floating above him.

[Status: Evolving]

A smaller screen popped up before Jake's eyes, this one said:

[Available class:]

[1. Shadow Assassin]

[2. Quasi-Moor ]

[3. Silver-tongue ]

"Shadow assassin, the name is enough what are rest?!"

He check their description, with mere thought the window changed this time, they were full of text.

[Shadow Assassin: The Assassin of dark and night. Trained in the art of unseen death, they strike before the echo of their step fades. Cloaked in darkness both literal and spiritual, they are mercenaries of twilight blades that whisper of forgotten sins.]

"What?! That's it!"

"I wish at least they tell me what ability one gets, what can I do with this crap of lore!"

"Again I can't complain."

He switch to the next class description.

[Quasi-Moor: Descendant of a forgotten warrior faith, the Quasi-Moor stands between light and oblivion. Clad in relic armor etched with prayers no god recalls, they wield curved steel and lost rites with equal devotion. Neither zealot nor heretic, they are echoes of a once-glorious order half memory, half myth.]

"Again, what does this tell me anyway?!!"

"I don't care what do these represent, I just want to know the abilities!!!"

"Is that so much to ask?!"

Jake grumbled, he didn't even bother to check the description of the third class.

He has even better idea, ask someone smart and knowledgeable.

But before that, he need to do something else.

"Let's see what loot we got!"

He turned towards gloomy, he was fine, there wasn't any sign of wounds or injury.

"Well, you did a surprise attack."

Swatting his hand on the air, Jake ordered. "Guard the perimeter, alert if you see someone."

Gloomy bowed before he silently disappeared.

"So spooky.." Jake said under his breathe.

Next, he turned towards the slayer dead body, he turned it to see his face.

It's face was handsome, contained a beauty words can't describe, his blue eyes seems to capture the very essence of sky, with his sharp face, he had look of an royal prince rather than a rag-tag mercenary.

Jake gasped, "And with that face you were going for goblins?!"

"Some people are beyond stupid!"

He turned his attention back towards searching his body.

He found a book, and some gold coins on him. With no parchment or any document, this man was invisible and impossible for Jake to identify.

"Who are you?" Scratching the back of the head, Jake frowned.

One thing for sure was that this mercenary wasn't a member of any major mercenary guild.

"I will check the book later, better yet I make the decision for Gloomy."

He quickly summon the two goblin again, the dumb one screamed in pain as he came back to the real world.

"Master, it hurts," he cried.

Without batting an eye, Jake turned towards a goblin with glasses.

"Gloomy is evolving. There are three classes are available: Shadow Assassin, Quasi-Moor, and Silver-Tongue. He must choose one to ascend."

Nudging his glasses, Nerdy spoke, "You want to know their abilities so you can decide?"

Jake quickly replied, "Yes!"

Nerdy began, "Shadow Assassin Abilities are related manipulation of shadow and teleportation through shadows."

He looked towards Jake, his expression unreadable, he continued, "Next, Quasi-Moor Abilities are sun-related spells and skills. Sun-related skill are class bound, so normal mage wouldn't be able to learn it."

Jake muttered, "So, I can't learn it."

"Precisely," replied Nerdy.

Then without any delay he added, "Finally, Silver-tongue, they have charm-based spells."

He clear his throat before he continue, "It's better master avoid this choice, this doesn't match Gloomy's personality."

'No shit, Sherlock,' Jake mocked inwardly.

Jake asked, "So what should I choose then?"

Nerdy rubbing his chin, thought deeply in silence for a while.

He then spoke, "Master, Shadow Assassin would be a good addition to team, he can be used to take on enemy by surprise. You can already see that Gloomy is adapt, both personality wise and nature wise for surprise attacks."

His eyes averted towards the lifeless corpse.

Nerdy shouldn't be able to know, as for he was already dis-summoned, but with deductive reasoning he came up with an answer.

"How..did you—never mind."

Putting the thought aside for the moment, Jake asked a different question.

"What about the Quasi-Moor?"

Nerdy replied immediately, "Well, for one it can be helpful in navigating the darkness of forest"

"But Sun-related spell are not really effective against most of the other elements, Master."

Jake interjected, "Wouldn't fire magic be enough for light or a direct light-based magic?"

Nerdy shaking his head in disapproval, corrected, "No master, it's not enough, the swamps of the forest are also part of the darkness, and monsters that they hide can only be attacked with sun-based skills or magic."

"So, if we want to take fight than it's a better choice to have a sun-related mage or warrior with us."

Rubbing his chin as if in deep contemplation he added, "But still master, I will recommend the shadow assassin. With versatility against other elements, it will be better equipped in a long run."

"Alright," replied Jake.

He call for Gloomy, through mana call.

He focus again the mana he lend, and tried to fetch it back on his own, it felt like playing fetch with himself on the lease.

"Dogs are really weird for liking this game, well they do not have a freaking lease on for one while plying the damn game...." He grumbled a useless thought.

Soon, a silhouette appeared shadowing Jake summons, it was taller than Nerdy and Dummy, and much leaner and muscular.

With a tight shut lips, it slowly parted away as a voice barely audible whispered, "Master... there was no monster nearby....."

With that, it quickly shut it back, closing it once more.

Jake spoke up, while both Nerdy and Dummy were circling their teammate.

"Would you like to evolve into Shadow Assassin?"

Dummy pinched Gloomy's arm, but Gloomy jerked back with a sharp twist. Nerdy dodged the slap a heartbeat later, leaning away just in time.

He sighed as he looked towards his friend expression.

It was stern with unwavering resolved.

With a firm nod, Gloomy spoke, "Yes, Master."

"Alright then."

Jake summoned the window again.

He looked toward Gloomy. There was no hesitation in his eyes.

Seeing that, Jake gave a firm nod in return.
