Chapter 99 - 99 Annoying Shaman

"Hehehe." In the end Chronos couldn't stop himself from laughing at this arrogant man.

The shaman's face darkened and power began to build around him.

"Weren't you listening, wolf. This is our area and you ar.. mgph."

Chronos grabbed his throat, cutting off whatever nonsense he was going to say. Lifting him off the walkway the other two panicked pointing their staves at Chronos but his voice stopped them before they could do anything stupid.

"I can shatter this bridge with one stomp. Are you really sure you want to start a fight here?"

They looked at each other while the older shaman tried to cast spells but was constantly interrupted by Chronos lightly shaking him before he could finish.

Choosing not to fight both of the younger shamans began backing up to the ring deck behind them.

"Good choice. Now old man I don't know what you've heard but the nagas have already been promised complete control over this fortress and its surroundings. This little coup of yours won't work. The most you'll achieve is making the nagas mad and being thrown out. For your sake I suggest you drop that useless arrogance before you cause problems."

The old shaman glared at him clearly not believing anything he said but when Chronos set him down he didn't try to cast anymore spells.

"You'll regret this wolf!" Snarled the old shaman before storming off.

The two younger shamans rushed after him, but Chronos had seen that at least one of them was taking his words to heart. Hopefully he would listen and distance himself from the older man.

Shaking his head Chronos walked towards the materials shop where he could sense small spatial fluctuations.

When he was within earshot he heard arguing coming from inside.

"Like I've been saying, you can't grow Hexbell Foxgloves in your shop. They're dangerous and will pollute the aura and spirit of anybody that comes near them!"

"And I've already told you, I've been growing these flowers like this my entire life. I'm not about to stop just because some little girl thinks she knows more than me."

Chronos was shocked, that first voice was Sariah's but he had never heard her shouting in anger before. Not even when she was upset with Gregory in the past.

If she was shouting like that then whatever was going on was very bad.

When he saw the shop, he noticed that there were some leaves near the door that looked similar to what the three shamans from before had been wearing. Perhaps the shop was a part of the same group and was trying to force their way through?

Sighing he stepped inside.

"They are cursed! Every time the bell rings it will pollute the aura and spirit of those that can hear it leading to a loss of control over aura and spirit and the possibility of permanent damage. That's why they can't be grown where people can hear them!" Sariah yelled.

"If they lose control just because of hearing a bell then they shouldn't be in the northern district. Besides I've grown these flowers my entire life and never lost control of my power. Hmph!"

Sariah looked like she was going to strangle the man, but Lyla placed a hand on her shoulder to restrain her.

"I've heard both of you shouting for a few minutes now and I'd like to ask a question." Chronos interrupted them. "Shopkeeper, did you receive permission to grow Hexbell Foxgloves after giving a detailed report of their abilities to the fortress commander?"

Looking at this new customer, the shopkeeper just became angrier at another person daring to question him.

"Look here, we shamans are running this place. We aren't going to be intimidated by a bunch of wolves and girls."

Chronos couldn't help wondering how people this stupid had survived this long.

"And which shamanic group are you a part of? I saw several of them on my way here."

"Then listen closely, we are the Great Fjolleblad shamans." He said with pride.

Chronos stared at him for a moment thinking he had misheard him.

"W-What group was that?"

"The Great Fjolleblad shamans." He repeated with greater pride thinking that this wolf recognized them.

"Don't laugh Chronos don't laugh...no I can't hold it."

"Pft hahahahahahahah."

The shopkeeper's face darkened as Chronos practically fell down laughing.

"How dare you laugh at us! We are the largest and most powerful shamanic group within the fortress. You will pay for this disrespect."

Calming down Chronos was going to explain when suddenly a crowd of shamans gathered at the shop's entrance led by the same old man from earlier.

"There you are, wolf. Now you will understand that we the Great Fjolleblad shamans control the northern district."

Behind the small crowd Chronos could see several shamans with different symbols on them run away before the violence started.

Seeing the faces of the gathered shamans Chronos couldn't help thinking that they were really living up to their group's name.

Behind him Lyla eagerly took out her mace while Sariah just looked angry. Shaking his head Chronos decided to try and resolve this peacefully before punching the idiots.

"How about all of you calm down. I doubt the fortress commander is going to be happy with a gang forming while he's trying to rebuil..."

"Shut up wolf! Or we'll force you to watch what happens to the little girl." Threatened the shopkeeper as he tried to approach Sariah.

"I would suggest against that, your chances of surviving that particular action are quite small." Chronos said in amusement.

It was no wonder that they were this stupid when they grew cursed plants in the open and named themselves after that leaf.

"Can I just bash them already?" Lyla asked.

"Not yet, we should see if any of them have even a slight amount of intelligence." The old shaman's face grew darker. "Now I'm giving all of you one last chance to back out. Anybody who wants to le..."

Bang.

The old shaman had created a spirit rock that flew right at Chronos's face which he blocked with one hand.

"I told you to shut u..."

Boom.

Chronos punched him in the gut, launching him backwards into his men.

"Guess we're fighting, uh girls try to avoid killing please." He lazily said as he dodged several more attacks.

Behind him he heard a thunk before a groan came from the ground. Sensing it, he felt the shopkeeper on the ground with Lyla stepping over his fallen body.

The shamans tried to force their way into the shop only to be blocked at the door by Chronos. They had seriously miscalculated how many people could fight in the shop or on the ring decks.

Having stopped them at the door only a few of them could attack him at once and Lyla throwing down a bulwark was making it even more difficult for them. Then the spells started going the wrong direction as Sariah's curses started to take effect.

"Work together you fools! Cast your spells at the same time." The old shaman stood up, gasping as he tried to give orders.

But trying to organize a gang rarely worked out. They kept getting in each other's way and blocking each other's spells.

Taking advantage of the chaos Chronos charged forward ramming into the frontline. Using his great strength, he shoved all of them out of the shop and onto the ring deck. Several screams came from the back as people were thrown off the platform.

Before anyone could react, he grabbed the old shaman by the throat, again, and snapped it. He thought that killing the leader would be the best way to swiftly end the battle, but the others just tried to cast spells at him while he dealt with their leader only to be slammed into the ground as a pillar of light hit them.

"How many do you think we have to kill before they stop coming?" Lyla asked.

"Wrong question. The right question is how many can we kill before the guards arrive." Chronos said as he abandoned the thought of keeping them alive.

Seeing his bloodthirsty grin a lot of shamans turned pale and tried to run.

They had not faced a real battle since being captured and thought that they could control the district through sheer numbers but that wasn't going to happen with experts controlling the fortress.

Even more unfortunate for them, one of the groups of shamans they had been suppressing had already cut off all of the connecting bridges leaving them stranded with an annoyed werewolf.

Sethriss heard the commotion and led a group of guards to investigate only to find shamans cheering on a ring deck as a body flew through the air.

Pushing his way to the front Sethriss saw the fight on the other ring deck.

"This is the fortress guard! All of you stop this moment! You, old shaman, reconnect the walkway for me and my men." He shouted.
