Chapter 94 - Chapter 8.5: Mission Report

PSIA FIELD MEMORANDUM - CLASSIFICATION: COBALT

TO: The Director, Division of Unconventional Warfare FROM: K. Takahashi (Field Designation: "Kenta the Roadie") DATE: [Redacted] SUBJECT: Justification for Civilian Asset Integration & Existential Review: Operation Intermission

MISSION CONTEXT: Operative is embedded within the Cirque Fantôme, investigating an Ouroboros smuggling ring (The "Spiders"). My cover is that of a "grizzled, world-weary roadie". My primary duties have consisted of sweeping floors and shoveling elephant dung. The cover is, therefore, psychologically seamless, as my internal state now perfectly matches the external requirements of the role.

THREAT ESCALATION & PROTOCOL DEVIATION: Surveillance has confirmed the Spiders plan to "clean the floor of all the unnecessary trash" following their final delivery. This is a direct threat of elimination against myself, Agent Sato, and any civilian personnel deemed a "loose end". Standard extraction protocol is insufficient as it would leave civilian lives at risk. I have therefore made the command decision to integrate a team of civilian assets into the operational framework.

CIVILIAN ASSET ROSTER ("The B-Team"): The newly formed unit consists of individuals whose lives have been systematically broken by a universe with a sick sense of humor. They are not soldiers, but they are survivors.

Haruto: A former salaryman whose life was destroyed by a broken taillight and a single, pathetic lie. Expertise: Social engineering via soul-crushing cynicism.

Ricco: A former prodigy acrobat, betrayed and "decommissioned" by his mentor. Expertise: Rigging, stealth, and a profound understanding of how to be invisible.

Miyuki: A cleaning woman whose husband and son were killed by a falling vending machine. Expertise: The creation of order in a messy world; moving through chaos completely unnoticed.

Pops: The camp electrician, whose defining characteristic is a deep, abiding hatred for everyone and everything. Expertise: Rigging the main generator to "accidentally" fail.

PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE (TEAM): These are not heroes. They are the people who sweep up the glitter after the show is over. They are motivated not by patriotism, but by a shared understanding that sometimes, the only way to deal with the trash is to take it out yourself. Their collective trauma has made them uniquely suited for this mission. They are the most broken, and therefore the most resilient, people I have ever met.

CONCLUSION: This report serves as my official justification for violating approximately seven hundred different agency regulations. The primary mission has shifted from intelligence gathering to asset protection and direct action. We are about to use a laundry cart, a faulty generator, and the collected anecdotal tragedies of the circus's forgotten workers to steal a piece of mind-control technology from a team of elite killers.

This is, objectively, the soundest plan I have been involved in for years. I feel strangely calm. Please forward my regards to Dr. Aoki.
