Aiden's discussion with Rainbow had left him mentally exhausted, and coupled with the lingering drowsiness he'd felt earlier, he finally succumbed to sleep. When he next opened his eyes, the digital clock on his nightstand glowed 11:30 PM.
"Shit, shit, shit! I'm almost late!" he muttered, leaping out of bed.
He hadn't intended to sleep for so long, but the deep weariness had won. Across the room, Rainbow, the bird who was always sleeping, was sprawled on one of his pillows in a comical position—beak up, stomach up, clearly in a deep slumber. Aiden shook his head, deciding not to wake the tiny creature.
In his panic over being late, he completely forgot that he had told Carl, Ryker, and Zane to meet up in front of the dorm building, so they can all go together. All he could think about was the rapidly approaching midnight deadline, and missing the deadline means adding an extra date to their punishment.
