Chapter 283 - Lost Memories, Hidden Truths

Wei Yunqing immediately noticed the towering beam of light and shouted to Sheng Yu Hong, who was slashing at a giant beast beside him:"Senior Brother Sheng, look over there!"

Sheng Yuhong also saw the light, which was dazzling in the darkness, and immediately said:"Let's charge in the direction of the light."

"All right."

Wei Yunqing instinctively felt that the light marked a way to leave this strange forest.

Wei Chenyin and the other three also saw the beam. Cao Yi raised his hand, calculating briefly, and said: "Head that way. That is the location of the Life Gate."

The others nodded and adjusted their course, moving toward the beam.

Almost all the cultivators who had been transported into the strange forest advanced in the same direction. The frenzied beasts in the forest sensed the threat and began attacking even more violently.

Among the advancing groups, cultivators who had absorbed forest spirit energy began to lose control after prolonged combat. Their eyes turned red, and like the beasts, they indiscriminately attacked all living creatures nearby, including their own companions.

"Qiu Bai, have you gone mad?"

"Yun Teng, what are you doing?"

"Ah! How dare you hurt me!"

"Stop! Wake up!"

Similar shouts and screams echoed throughout different parts of the forest.

Only the Buddhist cultivators from Yunmen Temple remained unaffected. Out of respect for fellow cultivators, they even assisted some of the frenzied cultivators, slowing their own progress.

Yun Xi opened her eyes to find herself lying on a bed, a pink canopy draped around her. She blinked once, then twice, but the scene remained unchanged.

As she was about to sit up, a voice of delight came from beside her: "Miss, you're finally awake!"

A small, fair, youthful face appeared in her line of sight.

Yun Xi asked: "Who are you?"

The little maid's face showed panic as she shouted: "Miss, I am A Dian, your maid!"

"A Dian?"

The name felt unfamiliar to Yun Xi.

The little maid, named A Dian, ran out in a panic, holding her skirt and shouting: "Master! Mistress! Hurry! Miss has gone silly!"

Yun Xi felt the urge to cover her face. What kind of logic was this? She couldn't recognize her own maid, and that meant she was "silly"? Why not say she had amnesia? This was a classic trope in storybooks.

As Yun Xi tried to recall, footsteps approached. Soon, a group of people burst into her room. A graceful woman's face appeared before her.

"Daughter, do you recognize your mother?"

Then a middle-aged man's handsome face joined, saying: "Daughter, I am your father."

Yun Xi examined them carefully and shook her head: "I don't recognize you."

A Dian pulled a white-bearded elder along, saying: "Doctor Wang, please examine my Miss quickly."

Doctor Wang staggered slightly as he was pulled, then withdrew his arm and said: "Please allow me to take her pulse."

The graceful woman and the middle-aged man stepped aside, looking anxiously at Doctor Wang as he checked Yun Xi's pulse.

Yun Xi cooperated, extending her arm. She wanted to understand what had happened to her.

After a moment, Doctor Wang withdrew his hand, stroked his white goatee, and thought for a moment before speaking under everyone's gaze: "Miss's pulse is strong and steady. There is no sign of illness."

The graceful woman's eyes reddened: "Then why doesn't she recognize us?"

"Yes! Doctor Wang, why can't she recognize anyone?"

A Dian added: "Miss doesn't even recognize me, her personal maid. What should we do? Could it be that her head was damaged?"

The little maid had not finished when the middle-aged man interrupted: "A Dian, stop talking nonsense."

A Dian covered her mouth, making Yun Xi squint slightly. Something felt off.

Doctor Wang ignored the banter and continued: "Previously, Miss had a persistent high fever. It lasted for some time, which may have caused this. But it should be temporary. If you speak to her about past events, she will gradually remember."

The graceful woman nodded: "Doctor Wang, we understand. Should we give her medicine?"

"I will prescribe a formula to calm the mind. Take it for five days."

"All right, Doctor Wang. Please, follow me."

The middle-aged man led Doctor Wang aside to prepare the medicine. The woman had to stand to see him off, giving a large red envelope as a consultation fee.

The room was left with Yun Xi and A Dian. A Dian asked attentively: "Miss, are you hungry? I can bring you a bowl of bird's nest congee."

Yun Xi waved her hand: "I'm not hungry. Sit with me and talk, so I can remember what happened."

A Dian nodded and sat on the edge of the bed: "Miss, you really don't remember anything?"

"Hmm. My mind feels foggy, like a thin veil is over it. I can't see clearly. Tell me, why did I faint in the corridor?"

This was what Yun Xi cared about.

A Dian pursed her lips, hesitant to speak.

Yun Xi quickly said: "A Dian, don't lie. Tell me everything, or I can't recover my memory."

"But… but Master and Mistress gave a sealing order," A Dian said, biting her lip.

Yun Xi sighed and pinched A Dian's cheeks: "If you don't tell, I won't tell, who would know? Once I remember my family, it will be thanks to you."

"Miss, gently! Gently!"

A Dian rescued her face from Yun Xi's hands. Yun Xi found the touch strangely familiar. Then her attention returned to A Dian's words.

"Miss, I don't know exactly what happened. I only know that you left your room at midnight. When I caught up, I heard you shouting about seeing a monster!"

"Monster? What monster?"

"I don't know, Miss. I only saw you struggling with the young mistress in the new room of the young master, shouting that she was a monster!"
