Chapter 17 – Demon Star
Seeing that Merus had no intention of explaining anything further, Tachibana Kyūjō chose not to press the matter.
He simply instructed the ship's crew to lower the Golden Flash onto the surface of Planet Gurin.

Kyūjō's luck that day could only be described as extraordinary.
The moment the Golden Flash landed on Gurin's surface, he immediately sensed a powerful, unstable wave of energy—like a cluster of auras forcibly compressed into a single point.
The aura felt wild, barely holding itself together, ready to explode at any moment.
From the fluctuations alone, Kyūjō concluded that the owner of that energy could be none other than Demon Star—one of the newly emerged members of the Primordial Demon race—who was most likely absorbing the entire life force of this planet.
Realizing that, Kyūjō wasted no time.
He focused on tracing that aura, and within an instant activated Instant Transmission.
In the blink of an eye, his body appeared right in front of a terrifying creature—a humanoid monster with the head of a goat—sitting cross-legged on the ground, its jaws wide open as it devoured the life energy of its surroundings.
— — —
That creature was Demon Star—the rising "star" of the Primordial Demon race.
When Kyūjō activated his Infinity Perception analysis system at close range, he immediately frowned.
The Galactic Patrol's intelligence data was a complete disaster!
According to their files, Demon Star's Power Level was only around 1,960,000.
But the Infinity Perception System showed that this creature's aura had already surpassed 5 million—and Kyūjō's current combat strength was just 1,800,000.
Of course, with technique, experience, and special abilities, Kyūjō still had a chance to fight opponents far stronger than him.
But a difference of more than double?
That was not something to take lightly.
However, judging from how the planet's life energy continued pouring rapidly into Demon Star's body, Kyūjō realized this wasn't entirely the base's fault.
The Primordial Demon race's method of increasing power was simply broken—
As long as they could keep absorbing life energy, their strength would continue rising without limit.
If left unchecked, this race might even become more terrifying than the Frieza clan.
1.8 million versus 5 million?
Kyūjō made his decision instantly. Win or lose, he would still fight.
After all, he still had two trump cards left.
The first: the Saiyan Great Ape transformation. If he used it, his power would multiply tenfold to 18 million—enough to crush Demon Star with no difficulty whatsoever.
But he didn't want to use it. Not only would the battle become too one-sided, but it would also reveal his true identity as a Saiyan to Merus.
Although Kyūjō no longer cared too much about that, it was still better to keep that card hidden. Let the truth come out later—after he had contributed significantly as a member of the Galactic Patrol.
And the second: Forced Separation—the energy separation technique he learned on Planet Yardrat.
Demon Star may have absorbed a massive amount of life energy, but he hadn't fully merged with it yet. His aura was still wild, unstable.
If Kyūjō used Forced Spirit Fission now, all the life energy Demon Star had not yet mastered would be ripped away in an instant.
Once that happened... how much power would he have left?
That was precisely why Kyūjō chose not to use it—not yet.
Today, he wanted to test himself—
Just how far could he go with a combat strength of 1,800,000 against an opponent with 5 million?
All of that calculation flashed through his mind in a fraction of a second.
As a true Saiyan who hated playing it safe, Kyūjō raised one finger. Ki rapidly compressed at its tip.
In an instant, a concentrated purple beam—Death Beam—shot forward like a piercing bullet of energy, aimed straight at Demon Star's open mouth.
At the same time, Kyūjō muttered under his breath,
"Hey, you're Demon Star, right? Still enjoying your meal, huh? Here's a little surprise for you..."
Before he even finished the sentence, the beam had already pierced into Demon Star's mouth, tearing straight through the back of his skull and exiting from the base of his neck.
A burst of thick, dark red liquid sprayed out violently, coating the entire upper half of the creature's body.
Demon Star let out a howl of agony.
But... he did not die.
Even with his skull pierced, he endured. His blazing red eyes locked onto Kyūjō with a murderous glare—the human who had just ambushed him—before he leapt backward...
He ran!
Yes, Demon Star chose to flee!
He couldn't determine Kyūjō's strength because the latter's aura was completely concealed. Combined with the grievous wound on his head, the cunning creature decided to escape first.
But Kyūjō—who had already predicted his intention—was not about to let him go.
Even if his speed wasn't on par with Demon Star's, he had another advantage...
Instant Transmission.
With a sharp shift of space, Kyūjō appeared directly in front of Demon Star—
and without hesitation drove his fist straight into the creature's face, striking the open wound head-on.
"Aaaghhh!!"
A scream of pure agony erupted as Demon Star was struck exactly where the damage was worst. His massive body was sent flying downward, crashing violently into the planet's surface—
A colossal blast shook the ground, scattering debris everywhere as the creature's body carved a massive crater into the land like a falling meteor.
From the center of the crater, Demon Star writhed in fury, nearly losing his sanity.
This opponent was truly despicable!
Appearing out of nowhere, concealing his true strength, attacking while he was absorbing energy...
If not for the Primordial Demon race's unique physiology—where the brain was not a vital organ—Demon Star would've already died from the first attack!
At first, all he wanted was to retreat, heal himself, and avoid battle temporarily.
He couldn't determine how many enemies were present, nor could he gauge Kyūjō's power.
But because he was careless, he took a second heavy blow—
right on the same wound!
Yet thanks to that, Demon Star finally managed to estimate... Kyūjō's true strength.
This creature... is not stronger than me!
And now, humiliation and rage filled him to the brim.
Demon Star no longer cared who the enemy was or how many of them existed.
He knew only one thing—
This cursed human... will die by my hands!!
As fury exploded within him, a violent vortex of black aura erupted around Demon Star. Blood still dripped from his face, but he ignored it completely.
In an instant, his body transformed into something like a black meteor, with two glowing horns shining atop his head.
With a powerful motion, he shot forward like a massive bullet—charging straight at Kyūjō, who was still in midair!
