Chapter 108 - 108. Find The Spy

"A demon actually sneaked into South Glade Town?" Kaito's expression darkened, and he immediately spoke with righteous indignation. "Lord Viscount, this cannot be allowed. The sanctity of our Town must not be violated!"

Viscount Elrick nodded solemnly. "Yes… the Glory Continent's purity must be defended at all costs. However… things have grown complicated."

He sighed, then continued in a tone full of weariness. "Recently, When the plane rift opened. A great number of the Lord God's favored people—such as yourself—descended upon the Glory Continent. In response, the God of Light Temple's High Pope issued an oracle, requiring us noble guardians to stay vigilant at our posts and never leave them unattended."

He paused, his noble posture still upright—but his expression…

Is he... trembling? Kaito blinked.

Viscount Elrick's voice took on a faint, embarrassed edge. "And so… I could only fortify the town and endure."

Endure, huh? Kaito nearly rolled his eyes. The man looked like he'd had premature stage fright, clearly rattled by the current state of affairs.

After all that dramatic talk, he still hadn't issued the quest.

Kaito decided to push the narrative forward.

He straightened slightly and said, "Respected Lord Viscount, I follow the guidance of the Holy Light. If there is truly a spy who has infiltrated South Glade… allow me to be your sword in the darkness. Let me uncover this threat."

That was the final trigger.

Viscount Elrick suddenly stepped forward, eyes wide in surprise. "Oh, blessed one from afar… are you truly willing to help me?"

His voice trembled with genuine gratitude. "The people of South Glade will never forget this."

System Prompt:

Viscount Elrick has issued you a quest.

Quest Title: Shadows Within the Mist

Do you accept?

Kaito accepted without hesitation.

After exchanging a few more formal lines with Elrick, he left the Viscount's mansion, the large doors closing behind him.

Once outside, he opened his task menu.

[Shadows Within the Mist]

Type: Rare Story Quest

Objective: Investigate and uncover the identity of the Demon cult spy hiding in South Glade Town.

Reward: Temple Badge (Glory), 1500 EXP, 50 Silver Coins

Kaito's brows lifted. A Temple Badge?

He hadn't expected that.

Temple Badges were extremely rare. If someone has made great contributions to the Temple and is not a believer, there is a chance to get the Temple Badge as a reward from the Temple.

[Temple Badge]: Symbol of recognition from the God of Light Temple.

There are seven Temple Badges in total:

Glory, Courage, Judgment, Justice, Kindness, Loyalty, Philanthropy.

Each badge granted different passive stats, attribute bonuses, or even unique skills. More importantly—if a player managed to collect multiple badges, they could be fused together, resulting in an even more powerful, upgraded version.

However, Temple Badges were exceedingly rare. Even with Kaito's extra ten years of experience and knowledge, he had no idea where—or through which quest—they could be obtained.

In his past life, no one had mentioned anything about them. And now, Kaito had stumbled onto an opportunity that never appeared in any forum or strategy guide.

Still, he frowned.

'But how the hell am I supposed to find a spy among thousands of NPCs?'

South Glade was teeming with them. Most were mere decorations. Others had functional roles like vendors, quest givers, or trainers. There were at least three thousand unique NPCs in town.

How could he tell which one was a cultist?

And worst of all—this quest wasn't mentioned anywhere in his previous life. No players had ever recorded it. It was completely new to him.

Observing every NPC one by one? That was absurd. How would he even recognize a member of the Demon Cult on sight?

It was hopeless.

No… not quite.

A flicker of intuition surged through Kaito's thoughts. A sudden flash—like the echo of a forgotten scene. But before he could grasp it, it vanished again, leaving only frustration behind.

At that moment, his communication panel lit up.

It was his second uncle.

Kaito had previously told him not to make voice calls during battle—only text, to avoid distractions—but seeing the name flash, he answered anyway.

"Hey," his uncle greeted him.

Kaito jumped straight to the point. "Any updates on the Lumina Sight Potion?"

"Yes. I've found something interesting. The purchasing agents from StormLife Guild are starting to buy both the potion and its recipe discreetly."

Kaito wasn't surprised.

"The Lumina Sight Potion is a mandatory consumable for the upcoming dungeon. Makes sense they might be trying to scout the area."

He paused.

The dungeon still hadn't been publicly mapped, but Zephyr had already reached Level 15. Knowing how forward-thinking he was, Zephyr had likely begun scouting ahead.

"Right now, the dungeon should still be under discovery phase… but once and the player base reaches Level 15 tomorrow or the day after, I will anonymously let them know about it's uses, then the potion's price will explode."

He nodded to himself.

"I'm estimating at least a 100% price increase—minimum. So, first, don't buy any Demon Rabbit Meat for now. Focus entirely on Lumina Sight potions and recipes."

"Got it," his uncle replied.

But then—

"Demon Rabbit Meat…!"

Kaito suddenly stiffened.

His voice jumped in excitement. "Right! That's it!"

"Huh?" his second uncle was confused.

Kaito grinned. "Nothing. Go on. Keep up the good work."

He quickly ended the call.

His expression now carried unconcealed joy.

I didn't expect it to be this easy…

Kaito had always found it strange in his past life—why would a senior member of the Temple of Light purchase Demon Rabbit Meat, of all things?

Even more puzzling was the explanation he'd given at the time: something about "purifying demonic energy."

That line had always sounded ridiculous.

But now—everything clicked.

So that's it… Elder Faelion isn't a priest of the light. He's a spy from the Demon Cult.

It wasn't just a guess—Kaito was certain.

Most players wouldn't realize it. But he, more than anyone, understood the Demon Cult's defining characteristics. Their core systems revolved around demonic energy, demonic races, and numerous hidden classes or skills tied to demon gods.

And if Faelion truly had a skill that allowed him to absorb demonic energy, then buying Demon Rabbit Meat made perfect sense.

He was training in secret, using meat infused with low-level demonic residue to cultivate his powers.

Kaito's expression darkened slightly.

So that's why the spy quest exists…

It all made sense now. He had once wondered why such a powerful quest—one that offered a unlimited coins—was even allowed to remain active without the GM's interference for so long. When the long-term exploitation of this quest could cause inflation in the game coins.

That's right… in my previous life, Elder Faelion suddenly disappeared one day.

No explanation. No event announcement. One day he was there… and the next, he was simply gone.

It hadn't made sense back then. But now, Kaito understood.

The spy quest ended automatically when Faelion vanished.

That was the true time limit.

Kaito exhaled sharply.

If I want to complete this quest… I can't delay it too long.

But right now, there were more urgent priorities—especially his current goal of dominating the Lumina Sight potion market.

"I'll give it a few days," he muttered under his breath. "The money comes first."
