Chapter 124 - Figuring Out the Fold

The three looked around the Daemon Realm and saw conflicts and fights breaking out all around them.

The Daemons would manipulate the energy of the realms with mere gestures and hurl spells at each other with the ease of breathing.

"Magic is like a part of them, and they control it as if moving a limb," Daphne commented as she saw the Daemons.

"They are spiritual life forms, after all," Aaric said with a nod, and drew some runes in the air in front of him, Daphne, and Luna.

The runes shimmered and formed a barrier around the three of them. "Now they won't be able to see or sense us," Aaric said, and the three started flying in a random direction to explore the realm.

Just as they started flying, some things became clear to them.

The rules of existence were fundamentally different in the Daemon Realm. There were spires, structures, and full cities in the Daemon Realm, but they made no sense. The geometry of the structures was not even connected.

They defied their own positioning, coming in and out of the dimension as if they were in flux at all times.

Mid-flight, Daphne held Aaric and Luna's hands and stopped concentrating on flight, relying on them both to carry her.

Aaric and Luna stopped and looked at Daphne as she moved her eyes in all directions, her brows furrowed in confusion.

"What is it, Love?" Aaric asked her.

Daphne did not answer and just started muttering to herself and making calculations as she looked at the structures in the realm.

Aaric frowned and moved closer to her. He extended his hand and covered her eyes. A rune formed in his other hand that he used to hold her.

The rune on his other hand stopped her magic perception and blocked all her magic-based senses.

"Better?" Aaric asked her, holding her tightly.

Daphne nodded. "I was using the Sage Skill to figure out the working of this realm," Daphne said, chewing on her bottom lip.

"Figuring out this realm is like holding water in a fist," Aaric said, caressing her back soothingly.

"We can not figure out this realm yet because we have an idea of how reality works and how things should be," Aaric started explaining gently as Luna also held Aaric and listened carefully.

"We know if we take a step forward, we will move towards the direction we are stepping towards. And this realm scoffs at that notion," Aaric explained and removed his hand from Daphne's eyes, allowing her to see.

Daphne blinked, just looking at Aaric for some time before slowly wandering her eyes over the dimension.

"So, I just don't try to make sense of this place and it will make sense?" Daphne asked.

Aaric tilted his head before just shrugging. "Pretty much. Just walk where the ground feels solid and don't look back," Aaric said.

Daphne and Luna giggled before nodding.

Daphne then looked to the side and saw a city floating in the distance. She held Aaric and Luna's hands. "Just follow my lead for a minute," she said, and they nodded.

Daphne then led Aaric and Luna towards a direction to her right and led them at a certain angle.

A moment later, they found themselves in the city, standing on a street with buildings and spirals all around them.

Daphne raised her hands and cheered lightly. "You figured out the fold of space?" Aaric asked, and Daphne nodded.

"You can praise me and bow to me now," she said smugly.

"You're lucky smugness looks good on you," Aaric said, making Daphne blush and hit his arm.

Aaric and Luna looked around the city and just sighed and looked at Daphne. "Lead the way," Aaric said, giving up as soon as he started.

They gave up because as they looked ahead, a building leaned inward, yet its shadows stretched away.

And to the side, a tower loomed above, though its base was nowhere to be found nothing made fucking sense.

"Where do you wish to see?" Daphne asked as she held their hands with a smile.

"Let's explore that spiral building over there; I see there is fighting going on there," Aaric said, pointing ahead.

Daphne nodded and took two steps back and one to the right, followed by Luna and Aaric.

Just at that moment, their vision changed and they were in front of a spiral where two Archdaemons were fighting. One of them looked like a woman with pale skin, red hair, and horns protruding from her shoulders.

The other was a male-looking Daemon with red skin, a bulky physique, black hair, and horns protruding from his chest and back, bending towards the ground.

They seemed to be working together as they attacked a silver, shining fox that was starting to disperse in silver particles.

Luna and Daphne glanced at Aaric, who nodded at them. They both transformed just as Aaric nodded.

Luna grew six wings formed on her back. Her middle wings glowed in starlight as she raised her hand.

The male Daemon took a step back and let out a scream as his own horns turned into skeletal hands with black energy covering them.

The hands wrapped themselves around the throat and hands of the Daemon, restraining him and blocking his spells.

To Luna's side, Daphne transformed as well. Her crown and cloak covered her as she raised her hand.

The female Daemon was Daphne's target, and she yelped and stepped back as her hair turned molten gold and extended around her body.

The Daemon flailed her hands in all directions, trying to fight her own hair, but they wrapped themselves around her and bound her hands and feet, blocking her magic.

Aaric moved to protect the silver fox, covering her in his energy and trying to heal her. It was too late, as even before they had reached the location, the fox was disintegrating away into motes of silver light.

Aaric took out a vial from his pouch and bit his finger as some blood seeped from his finger and covered the vial, forming a rune around it.

Aaric held the little tail of the fox that had still not disintegrated, and held it in his palm as a force was created from his palm, attracting the energy that had dispersed and covering itself around the tail and forming a sphere around it.

Aaric chanted spells and whispered in Parseltongue as the sphere was stored in the vial.

Aaric sighed and got up. He saw Luna and Daphne looking to him with worry, and Aaric shook his head.

"We were too late. I did what I could," Aaric said and showed them the vial. "We can find a way to reform it when we go back," Aaric assured the girls, and they nodded at him.

Luna and Daphne made a pulling motion, and the Daemons were moved to face them and forced onto their knees.

"Explain," Aaric said simply as he stood in front of the Daemons.

"What is there to explain? All the primordials have left this realm, and that was a new one that was in its initial stage of formation. Were we supposed to let that happen?" the female Daemon said as if it was obvious.

Aaric tilted his head. He had read the Tensura light novel in his previous life, so he had some idea of how they worked.

"Souei, please tell Diablo to come find us," Aaric said, forming a connection through the thread Souei gave him and temporarily made himself visible to just Diablo so he could sense and find him.

It did not even take a second, and a disheveled looking Diablo appeared in front of them.

"Finally, I have been trying to find you for all this time," Diablo said, adjusting his gloves and clothes to at least look a little presentable.

"Never mind, found him," Aaric said, forming the connection again.
