Chapter 51 - The Sun Fire's Wrath and the Eye's Resilience

Even before the fleeing Mary and the others could leave the pyramid, the Sun Fire became too much for the great pyramid to handle. Boom! An explosion that rocked the world shook everything in the forest. The barrier that had been placed around the pyramid to hide it from the humans trembled and failed for a few seconds before moving back in place. The Mage Born and the others were thrown away from the pyramid, but fortunately, each of them was powerful enough to survive this calamity.

The great fire burned ceaselessly. Cate was still within this blaze, and Mary was worried that Cate was gone. Just before she completely collapsed from this fear, Cate ran out of the fire as fast as she could. She was being chased by one of the eyes from the pyramid. It had been freed from its chains now that the pyramid was gone. Whoosh! The eye shot out a condensed beam of green power that passed through Cate's back and out through her chest. The beam entered the Earth and left a large crater.

Albrecht was the fastest to move. He turned into mist that covered the eye in the blink of an eye. He regained his form and attacked the eye with his claws. The claw passed over the golden eye, creating an irritating sound that was filled with all the malice of this world. The eye was sent flying back into the Sun Fire, but everyone knew that this was far from enough to stop this powerful being. The Mage Born raised his two swords and cut out towards the direction of the eye. This simple movement created thousands of swords made using the magic that flowed through the world. All the swords moved to cut the eye into pieces.

Mary brought out a potion bottle and threw it into the Sun Fire. The great fire exploded with more power. The heat alone was enough to melt metal hundreds of feet away. The eye let out a shriek filled with pain. Jordan attacked last. She jumped into the sky and, faster than most people could track, she brought out her spear and attacked with everything she had. She filled the spear with all her magic power and threw it at the eye. The spear bent space as it moved through the sky, leaving a trail of destruction and power. Booom! Another explosion rocked the world with this attack.

Cate stood up and looked back at the destruction being unleashed on the eye. Even though this being was powerful, it had already been greatly harmed by the Sun Fire, and with these many attacks from everyone, Cate believed that this should be the end of everything. She was wrong. The hole that had been blasted in her chest had already closed completely, and Cate used magic to cast a simple spell to hide the damage to her clothes. She did not want to be questioned about how she had survived a blow to the heart. She should be dead, but she was now walking around as though nothing had happened.

As she looked at the Sun Fire she had summoned, she saw the flow of magic, and this showed her how wrong she was. The eye was on the brink of death, but it was now gathering even more power. To make matters worse, all the damage that had been done so far had already healed. Cate looked at her left hand. From the time she jumped out of the fire, she had her hand forming a fist as though trying to suppress something. Her hand was covered in great power held together by an ancient and terrible spell. She was not willing to let whatever it was she had in her grip escape her.

"Keep attacking. It is still alive and gathering power," Cate ordered. She did not have to say it twice. Everyone, including Jordan, began attacking once more. With a wave of her dainty hand, Jordan pulled her spear back from the Sun Fire. The spear was red hot. "The fruits of Eden are flawed. Only the flow of destiny can humble the living. All things are dictated by power. With the blessing of my ancestors, all fire shall obey my will," Jordan chanted as fast as she could. Her spear glowed with great power that soon disappeared as though having been sucked into the core of the spear. The Sun Fire on the ground was not spared from this fate, as it was sucked into the spear. The scene was very beautiful and yet terrifying. In less than a second, all the Sun Fire was gone, and the spear was glowing with a crimson hue. Jordan's red hair moved behind her as though it were not hair but the essence of fire. The eye was exposed at the center of the destruction on the ground.

Cate and the others moved away from the eye. "Die," Jordan cried out at the top of her lungs. She threw out her spear once more, but this time, the power within the spear was truly unimaginable. The eye created a barrier to protect itself from this oncoming spear attack, but even this was not enough. Bang! The barrier shattered the moment the spear tip made contact. The spear then went through the eye and pinned it to the ground. This was only the beginning of the attack, as the spear then went on to release all the firepower it had gathered. This power was released directly into the eye. The world was covered by a terrible scream that sounded almost human.

Jordan fell from the sky, and to her surprise, Cate moved and caught her before she hit the ground. The eye continued screaming for a few minutes before it finally calmed down and settled. It appeared as dead as any eye, but Cate knew better. This eye seemed to be some immortal being. It could not be killed no matter what they did. Cate threw Jordan to the side and flew next to the eye. She immediately began casting sealing spells. When the others saw what she was doing, they remembered that this was actually their job. Killing the eye would have been a great loss for the Avalon Society, and they would have surely been reprimanded. Jordan, Mary, and the Mage Born followed Cate's lead and began chanting the sealing spell they had all been given when they were assigned to the Magic Research Bureau.
