Chapter 96 - Chapter 98: A Kidnapping Incident Intrusion?

In the downpour, was the carriage fast?

Not fast.

But the forest was too close. In that short time, it had already carried them to the entrance of the 'shadow'. The thick darkness of the rain.

The wind brought a discordant 'sound'.

Alan looked at the rain curtain.

Then, the rain stopped.

Literally stopped.

The falling raindrops 'froze' in mid-air at a slow speed.

Frozen in the dark gray pupils.

Frozen in the 'Sense Flow' that Alan had fully activated with the Dragon Saint's battle aura!

The carriage curtains slowly billowed open in the wind! In the candlelight filtering out from the window, dense water droplets 'slowly' fell before his eyes, reflecting an orange arc of light that hit his eyeballs!

As his brain overloaded, his thoughts became extremely active. While processing the information, Alan couldn't help but compare this scene with a movie scene from his previous life, a visual effect that used lighting to 'stop' the magic of raindrops.

In this world of swords and magic, Alan had truly achieved it.

Amidst the heavy raindrops, the 'background color' of the environment was fed back through the 'Sense Flow'! The rain had stopped! The fierce wind had ceased! The forest leaves no longer swayed in the gloom!

What had just emerged from the forest was the cold glint of blades, the sharp edge flashing at the tip of a newly drawn sword. And above the rain curtain... arrows crawled through the raindrops!!

This was not the 'spar' with Ghislaine that he had imagined, but a carefully planned 'assassination'!!

Alan blinked, pulling himself out of the strained Sense Flow secret art.

The curtain flapped in front of his eyes in the wind and rain! He heard the patter of footsteps beside him. Eris had already broken free from the cat-girl maid's "restraint" and was in front of Alan's face in two steps.

"Hey! Is Ghislaine outside the window? Why do you keep looking out the window, did she come—"

Before she could finish her sentence, Alan's hand blocked her face. The back of his hand faced Eris, his palm facing out the window, completely covering her face.

You want to look, so I won't let you, is that it?

When had the little lion ever been provoked like this? Her sleepiness vanished in an instant. Her fiery, inverted V-shaped eyebrows shot up high, and her lips parted to speak!

In that instant!

An arrow descended from the sky, pierced the rain curtain, shot through the window frame, and struck Alan's palm! Under the inertia of its fall, the arrow trembled and whined before Alan's hand, its direction constantly changed by the Flow Secret Art until it was almost a blur.

In the sudden turn of events, Eris instinctively took a step back, but her competitive nature immediately stopped her. Her dynamic vision and swordsmanship talent, befitting a beginner of the Sword God Style, came into play. As her red pupils dilated, she caught a glimpse of the arrow's trajectory through the gaps in Alan's fingers.

Then, with a bang!, the arrow exploded into a shower of wood splinters, scattering over the carriage! Along with this sound, several arrows twisted and turned in the air, landing on the carriage roof.

The carriage had already entered the forest. Figures burst out from the trees, breaking through the rain curtain.

"Sylphie! Earth Fortress magic, protect Eris and yourself!!" Alan grabbed Eris, who was still staring blankly at his hand, and tossed her into Sylphie's arms.

"Okay!!" The latter reacted quickly. The day and night of fighting monsters in the snow valley last winter had forged a strong rapport between her and Alan. Even though she didn't understand the situation, she instinctively followed his instructions.

In the corner of Alan's eye, magic surged from her palm, forming a surrounding 'barrier' from the corners of the carriage. The magic—Earth Fortress—left only one small opening for observation.

In this sudden situation, Eris shifted her gaze from Alan's hand to the scattered arrow fragments on the ground. Her red pupils shone not with fear, but with excitement! The young lady was a fierce one who could still stand tall and curse at thieves even when tied up during a kidnapping. How could a little variable like this scare her?

Sylphie, however, glanced at the arrow fragments on the ground and heard the sound of people running through the muddy water outside the carriage. She quickly deduced that they were under attack. It was only when she looked up at Alan's face, which held a faint trace of anger, that a look of confusion crossed her face.

"Alan said Eris's name first? Could it be... Alan has already determined that this sudden attack is aimed at Eris?"

As she was thinking this, Eris in her arms began to struggle. "Sylphie, let me go, I want to go out and see!"

Sylphie, however, used a puff of air magic to hold Eris in her arms, her voice soft and gentle, but her words came out quickly. "Don't be like that. Since Alan asked me to protect you, he must think it's very dangerous. I also know you're very interested in Alan's sword techniques, so I've opened a 'window' for you. How about we watch from here?"

"I!"

"Otherwise, if he gets angry, he won't teach you swordsmanship."

Eris, who was about to retort, suddenly froze. She pursed her lips into a line and snorted disdainfully. "Who wants him to teach me!" But her body honestly went limp in Sylphie's arms, her eyes fixed on Alan without blinking.

Sylphie smiled gently and raised her eyes.

In that instant! A blade thrust in from outside the carriage, stabbing directly at Alan's face!!

Sylphie and Eris's pupils contracted simultaneously. Eris instinctively started to move again, but this time it was Sylphie underneath her who became anxious, causing her body to move.

The next moment, they both felt the candlelight in the carriage was a bit blinding. A sharp, high-pitched hum, like one sound or many sounds layered together, filled their ears!

"BZZZZ!!!"

Amidst the buzzing sound! The blade, gleaming with a cold light! In front of Alan's face, like the rain outside, from the tip to the body, in a cross-sectional manner, it fell to Alan's feet piece by piece with a clattering sound!

The tip of the blade! The body of the blade! The hilt of the blade!

Fingers! Wrist! Arm!

Torn clothing! Gushing blood!

Outside the carriage, the person who had thrust the blade in, their entire arm that had entered the carriage due to inertia, along with the blade, had been sliced into thin layers. Piece by piece, they fell in front of Alan. Blood spurted from the person's severed upper arm!

And this all happened in just one second! Almost simultaneously! A piercing scream came from outside the window!

The next moment, the scream also died out.

A head fell onto the window sill, bounced off the carriage wall, and rolled to a stop in front of Sylphie and Eris's earth fortress. Blood was still gushing. The expression on the head was strangely vivid, as if it still clung to life.

Eris and Sylphie both stared at the bearded, blood-covered stranger's head on the ground, completely stunned. Sylphie's legs gave way, and she sat down with a thump inside the earth fortress. It was only then that she realized what Alan's "earth fortress" meant.

It was not a fortress for Sylphie to build a defense to protect them.

It was to prevent them from being sprayed with blood.

That was all.
