Chapter 8 - Gotham Traditional Program

"Joker and Riddler, it's over, Harley Quinn—why are you here?"

"You should say it like this!"

Harley Quinn said to him, imitating Batman's tone.

Batman glanced at Harley, who had just been woken up by cold water.

But Harley didn't pay attention to him anymore, instead shouting towards the camera:

"Hey, is the camera still rolling? I want to announce something—Harley Quinn and Joker are no longer together, they've completely broken up~"

Batman was here to deal with Joker, not to watch drama, so he was stunned for a moment upon hearing this.

Then with two 'bang, bang' sounds, two spherical covers encased both Batman and Harley Quinn, suspending them in mid-air.

"Let's play a guessing game, what is cold and hot, and will swallow you if you drink it, what..."

Riddler pinched the brim of his top hat, flicked it aside, and spoke rapidly, while approaching Harley Quinn and Batman who were suspended in the air.

Unfortunately, before he could finish speaking, Harley Quinn and Batman spoke at the same time:

"Acid."

Riddler was stunned:

"I haven't finished speaking, what..."

"It's acid." Harley Quinn interrupted Riddler.

"That's right." Batman agreed with Harley.

Riddler nodded helplessly:

"Alright, alright, it's acid... So now, I'm going to throw you into the acid pool."

After saying that, he pressed the button on the cane in his hand.

Accompanied by mechanical sounds, the ground beneath Harley Quinn and Batman cracked open, revealing two pools filled with acid.

"Wait, this isn't what we agreed on..." Joker said with some surprise, "Our plan was to just lock up Batman, and I would put the laughing gas into the reservoir."

"Yes, but that was just your plan. Don't worry though." Riddler said to Joker.

The camera was still focused on them at this time, broadcasting the live footage to the television stations in Gotham City.

Bang!

The henchman standing behind the camera was shot down by Joker, who then pointed his gun at another person standing nearby:

"You go, point the camera at them."

He was referring to Batman and Harley Quinn who were suspended in the air.

"You made a big mistake, Riddler, because when my man finds out, he'll definitely rush in."

Joker was laughing so hard on the side that he couldn't straighten his back:

"Are you talking about me? Don't worry, it's still the same this time, 'Only death can truly separate us', hahahaha—"

"No..."

Harley Quinn's voice dropped, she hoped Connors would appear at this time, but so much time had passed, and he still hadn't arrived.

"Maybe I shouldn't have left without saying goodbye and come here alone... With Connors here, there must be a way."

Yesterday, Harley Quinn was with Connors and witnessed firsthand how he moved through the heavily bombed and surrounded Williams Medical Center as if no one was there.

Even when Connors was writing behind Joker's poem, Harley Quinn saw it clearly from the side.

And yesterday, when no one knew about Joker's plan, he had already sent the keyword "reservoir" to Batman via an anonymous email.

Later, it was confirmed by Joker today, his plan was indeed exactly as Connors had predicted.

In Harley Quinn's heart, Connors' image had completely overshadowed Joker's previous one.

It was a pity that Harley was too confident today, thinking she could defeat Joker by herself, never expecting Riddler to be acting with him here.

Now that she was suspended in the air, she could only find a way to save herself, so she lowered her head, thought for a moment, and put on a pitiful expression:

"Mr. J, you'll save me, right? Quickly tell Riddler to burn this little bat alive and let me out!"

Joker ignored her, Riddler didn't reply, and Batman in the cover next to them was tinkering with something and didn't speak either.

Riddler's voice gradually became louder at this moment:

"How about we play a little game? One lives, the other dies, and the loser will fall into the acid and be burned alive."

"I believe our Mr. Joker can make a perfect choice, right?"

Joker nodded repeatedly from the side, looking at Batman and Harley Quinn in the air:

"That's right, that's right, yes yes yes, it seems like a very simple choice, but, Harley... hahahaha—"

As he spoke, he suddenly burst into laughter, laughing so hard he could barely breathe, and then his mouth almost stretched to his ears:

"But, little Harley, I can't let this question mark bastard steal the credit for killing Batman, right?"

"Release Batman, drop this broad!"

The acid pool beneath Batman was closed, and before Riddler could manipulate the cover to open, Batman opened it first.

Batman chased after Riddler, while Joker fled in another direction, he was going to fulfill his prophecy:

—Killing Judge Thomas Reik and the wealthy Bruce Wayne.

Poor Harley Quinn was left behind just like that, even though this time she wasn't here for Joker, but wanted to defeat him to prove herself, she was abandoned once again.

Watching the cover that held her open, and about to fall into the acid pool below under freefall, Harley Quinn quickly took a deep breath and closed her eyes tightly.

Just as her body was about to fall into it, Connors arrived late, preventing Harley Quinn from falling in.

"Xiao Pa! I knew you'd come!"

Harley Quinn realized she hadn't fallen into the cold and hot acid, but was held up by an embrace, opened her eyes, saw Connors, and cried out with heartfelt joy.

"Shh!" Connors made a silencing gesture, "Let's go, I'll take you to watch the show."

...

Riddler hadn't run far before he was tripped up by weeds on the ground, fell flat on his face, and then took a solid punch from Batman.

"I need to quickly chase Joker, he's going to kill Judge Thomas Reik, I absolutely cannot let him succeed... Uh?"

Above where Riddler fell, Judge Thomas Reik was firmly tied up by vines, especially his head, which was practically tied into a giant ball.

If it weren't for his body shape, the badge on his body, and the constant cursing coming from the vines, indicating that this was indeed Judge Thomas Reik, Batman would have even suspected it was a prank.

"With Judge Thomas Reik looking like this, there's no need to worry about him being killed by Joker... Is Poison Ivy helping me? Or some other plant manipulator?"

Batman thought for a moment, and then quickly chased in the direction Joker fled.

He wasn't worried about getting lost at all, because along Joker's escape route, arrows made of plants guided the way, like a navigation system.

At this moment, Joker ran towards the reservoir while turning his head to watch the weeds behind him constantly grow into arrows, even if he blew them up with bombs, other plants would quickly fill in.

By the time he reached the location at the reservoir to release the poison, Batman was already waiting there, and he was greeted by the other party's sandbag-sized fist.

Not far from Batman and Joker, Connors seriously explained to the dizzy Harley Quinn beside him:

"'Only death can truly separate us,' Joker didn't say that to you, but to Batman."

"Haven't you noticed that every time Joker says that to you, Batman is either already there or arrives soon after?"

"Alright, now let's enjoy Gotham's traditional program: Batman vs. Joker."
