Chapter 18 - Chapter 17: Battle of Giants

For just a few seconds, Sumo Wrestlers are the strongest in the world. Makoto Genryuuzan and Yuichiro Matsumo enter the arena.

- "Next is round 1, match 13! Makoto "The Earthquake" Genryuuzan versus Yuichiro "Taima no Kehaya the 100th" Matsumoto!"

Waldemar smiles.

- "Hah! This is going to be fun! Two gigantic beasts are about to rip into each other!"

He shouts.

The two stare each other down. They both raise their legs and slam them onto the ground, performing Shiko. The ground rumbles beneath them.

- "Sumo is incomplete, and you modern Sumo wrestlers are fighting with a handicap."

Yuichiro says.

- "Incomplete you say? I don't need any more than slaps and throws to defeat you."

Genryuuzan replies.

- "Fighters are you ready!?"

The two stay silent but get into their fighting stances as a reply.

- "Then…BEGIN!!!"

They rush at each other, gritting their teeth. Genryuuzan throws a slap, while Yuichiro throws a punch. The force of their strikes creates a shockwave felt throughout the entire stadium.

- "Woah did everyone feel that!?"

Jitae watches on.

- "These two are trouble."

Jack looks on in surprise.

- "Forget being equal to Waldemar, these guys are much stronger!"

Leonardo nods in agreement.

Yuichiro goes for another punch, but Genryuuzan grabs his shorts, as if grabbing a Mawashi. He roots his feet into the ground and uses all of his might to throw Yuichiro's 214kg body across the arena. A rough landing, and once again the weight of their movements is affecting the environment.

- "What an explosive opening this is!"

A bead of sweat rolls down Punyawit's face. He lets out a light smile.

- "Looks like it's more than Jitae, Francisco, and Leonardo I have to watch out for."

He mutters to himself.

Yuichiro launches a massive uppercut, but Genryuuzan once again counters with a slap. He then pushes Yuichiro away. Genryuuzan tries to push forward, but Yuichiro lands a devastating forward kick to Genryuuzan's torso, dropping him to his knees.

- "Genryuuzan's taken a massive blow! But we all know this isn't enough to take him down!"

Genryuuzan gets into a compact position and launches himself straight at Yuichiro. Yuichiro can't dodge in time and pays the price with a tackle to the torso.

- "What speed! 180kg of pure power at moving at that speed!"

Both fighters are on the floor. Genryuuzan gets back up first and attempts to stomp him, but Yuichiro rolls away. He gets up and socks Genryuuzan in the face. Genryuuzan once again counters with a long-winded slap. Both fighters, stunned, take a step back.

- "What power! What feats of incomparable might!"

The two distance themselves. Swinging around all that power with their body type takes a lot of stamina. Yuichiro is hit especially bad because he's using moves that are outside of regular Sumo. Yuichiro inches closer.

- "Tell me, why do you insist on limiting your arsenal?"

He asks. Genryuuzan stares at him before deciding to answer.

- "This was how I was raised."

Yuichiro scoffs.

- "I thought you'd say something like that."

- "I'm not done. That's what I would've said if you asked me that a few years ago, but now? Now, I'm sure. I want to prove to the world that Sumo wrestlers are the strongest. Each martial art has its own ups and downs, Sumo is no different. Like you said, we limit ourselves, but that is not a problem. We properly use our weight, which is our greatest strength and weakness."

- "Is that it?"

- "No. I also just LOVE Sumo!"

Genryuuzan roars. Yuichiro smirks.

- "Then, we're two sides of the same coin."

Yuichiro rocks him in the face and then grabs his Mawashi. He then throws him across the arena. Genryuuzan is sent rolling across the floor. Yuichiro attempts to mount, but Genryuuzan slaps him from mount, sending him tumbling away.

- "Some more heated exchanges! But there's not much gas left in the tank for either of them!"

Genryuuzan gets up. His breathing is not as bad as Yuichiro's. While this may be due to their fighting styles, it also has something to do with Genryuuzan's body. Ever since he was a little kid, he was always more athletic than everyone. Faster, stronger, taller, there were none that could match him in pure athleticism. But he wanted more, he wanted to be even stronger. Eventually he was scouted by a nearby Sumo stable. They turned him into an absolute beast of a Sumo wrestler. He also had way more stamina than the average Sumo wrestler.

He was a cut above the rest! He has been working his way up the Sumo ranks ever since, and his promotion to Yokozuna is ever close. Yet, he felt as if there was something missing. He has only tested his strength against other Sumo wrestlers, but what about other martial artists? How would he fare against boxers? Against Karateka? Against Nak Muay? He demanded an answer.

- "You want to know so bad? Well, you're in luck."

His stable manager said as he passed him a letter.

- "That's an invitation to the Paraiso Grand Tournament. You'll be able to test yourself against the world's greatest boxers, the greatest Karateka, the greatest Nak Muay, and more!"

Genryuuzan lights up in excitement.

- "Now go show this world that WE are the strongest!"

Back to the fight, Genryuuzan gets back up and glares at Yuichiro. He then roars at him, causing the entire building to shake. Yuichiro roars back.

Yuichiro too, was a gifted child. He was a prodigy, born from the blood of Taima no Kehaya, the loser of the duel in the first ever Sumo match, but this loser was not weak, far from it. He too could be called "the strongest under the heavens." Raised in a small village with other descendants of that man, he was by far the strongest. He was taught in the ancient ways. Strikes with the fist, kicks and locks were not out of the question for his way of fighting. From the moment he was able to walk he was trained in this way, and he loved every second of it.

That is why, he was disappointed that modern Sumo was "incomplete." He thought they could do so much more, and that he was living proof that it could be done. He tried to convince other wrestlers to join him, but sad to say, the only reason he could do it was that he was special. Yet he was too blinded by ambition. Eventually he too would get invited to this tournament, and as fate would have it would meet his exact opposite, which is none other than Makoto Genryuuzan. A Sumo wrestler who could match him with that "incomplete" Sumo, but of course, Yuichiro isn't going to go down without a fight.

Genryuuzan charges straight at Yuichiro, but Yuichiro was prepared and dodges.

- "Not falling for that again!"

Yuichiro shouts as he goes for a hook. Genryuuzan smiles.

- "Thanks for taking the bait."

He claps his hands together, stunning Yuichiro with the sound.

- "NEKODAMASHI! YUICHIRO IS STUCK IN PLACE!"

Genryuuzan prepares one final attack.

- "TAKE THIS!!!"

He launches a palm strike volley at Yuichiro, with each hit sending shockwaves behind him. He shouts as he finishes the combo off by grabbing Yuichiro's waist and throwing him across the arena, knocking him out. Once again, he shouts in victory.

- "And a Tsuppari barrage and a throw to end the fight! What a spectacular finish!"

- "And the winner is-"

The referee is cut short as Yuichiro rises from the ground. Genryuuzan stares at him, perplexed. Yuichiro smiles but then passes out standing.

- "Uh, once again, the winner… is MAKOTO "THE EARTHQUAKE" GENRYUUZAN!!!"
