"Have you ever played Minecraft?" Harry asked me.
"...No?"
"Then download it and play!" Harry patted Peter's shoulder.
"Why?"
"Because it's a great game, duh! Stop asking!"
Later, Peter went home, turned on his computer, and searched for Minecraft.
The price of Minecraft was $40.
"Too expensive!"
[You're calling it expensive when you have over $5,000 in your pocket?]
"That's a different issue."
Then I looked at the intro and all that stuff.
"I've heard this game is famous worldwide. I'm curious what it's like."
Although Peter had seen Minecraft before, he knew nothing about it despite having glimpsed gameplay footage a few times.
"Isn't this a survival game? I wonder how the survival works?"
[I'm curious too.]
So Peter spent $40 to buy the game.
"Uh... is this the official website?"
He looked at the website he was downloading Minecraft from.
666mine.com
"Weird. Who names a site something so childish?"
[Childish?? I think it's cool! 666! The number of hell! Super cool!]
"Cringe."
Download complete. He launched the game.
Right in front of him was the huge Mojang logo, then the game title appeared.
He clicked "New Game" and spawned in a plains biome.
"Okay... Uh, how do I move?"
[W, S, A, D?]
"Let me see... Oh, got it! Not much different from other games, right? But there's no tutorial."
[Peter... the tutorial is right on the left side of the screen.]
"Huh? Oh, didn't notice."
[Peter... do you even know how to play games?]
"Well, how should I put it? Most games I play are fighting games, and I always play those with Harry on console, so I'm not used to PC gaming."
[Is that why you never test games and always leave it to Harry?]
"Yeah, I don't know how."
How the hell did this guy manage to make a horror game when he barely knows how to play games on PC?
"Okay, I think... punch trees, right?"
[Just do what the tutorial says.]
So I punched trees nonstop.
Got 2 full stacks of wood.
[Alright, even though I've never played Minecraft, I feel like you took a bit too much!]
"Is that a lot?" Peter scratched his head.
Where did my smart Peter go? Why is he acting so dumb??
"Hey, why is that cow staring at me like that?"
In the game, the cow stood quite far away, staring at him without looking elsewhere.
Kinda weird? Probably a game feature.
So he walked up to the cow. It kept staring.
[I have a bad feeling about that cow...]
"Maybe it's hungry?"
Peter took out a log and punched the cow in the face.
[...I don't think that's how you feed it.]
"How do you know?" Peter kept punching the cow, even though it just stood there.
[No idea, instinct maybe?]
Eventually Peter killed the cow. It dropped 10 leather and 1 raw beef.
"Leather? What's that for?"
[...]
"Eh, no answer is fine. I'll figure it out myself."
So Peter killed a few more cows, but they only dropped 1 leather each, or even 0.
"Hmm?"
Scratching his head, Peter moved on.
The sky started getting dark.
"I think monsters spawn at night, right?"
[Probably?]
"Hmm."
Peter dug into the dirt and built a dirt house.
[...What are all those wood blocks for? Decoration?]
"Using them would be a waste."
Truly a complete newbie who knows nothing about Minecraft.
"Done!" Peter looked at his roofless dirt house, feeling proud.
"Hmm hmm, gotta take a screenshot and send it to Harry!"
Just as he reached for his phone, a figure emerged from the darkness, staring straight at his screen.
"...?"
He moved the mouse to get a better look.
The guy looked a lot like my character, but with pure white eyes.
"Wow, that's cool! Another player?"
[We're playing single-player, though?]
"Single or not doesn't matter. Let me get closer."
So I moved my character toward him. Next to him were a bunch of mobs, all with white eyes like him.
"That's so cool! How do I talk to him?"
The white-eyed guy kept staring while I looked for the chat button.
"Got it. What should I type?"
[You're asking me?]
"Uh... Want some dog meat?"
[We're not Chinese.]
"Already sent."
[Are you kidding me?]
Then he replied in chat.
HIM: You're not scared?
"Huh? Scared of what?"
[Who knows?]
Peter stared at the character "Him" and typed back.
Peter: scared of what? I think you look cool?
Hearing that, he glanced at the white-eyed pig next to him.
It shook its head, then he looked back at Peter.
HIM: thanks?
Peter: no problem! Are you like a guide in this game?
HIM: no
Peter: mind helping me? I don't know how to play
HIM: ...
Then he led me into a cave.
HIM: this is a wooden pickaxe, use it to mine stone
He dropped the wooden pickaxe. I picked it up and started mining stone.
"Wow, so you need tools to mine this stuff?"
The white-eyed guy watched me obsessively mining stone, then stepped back to observe.
Until I spotted a strange ore.
"What's this?"
It looked different from regular stone, so I mined it.
After a while, it broke... but nothing dropped.
"Huh? Weird."
Peter scratched his head, turned around, and saw the white-eyed guy standing nearby.
He looked at the wooden pickaxe, then at the ore I just mined.
For some reason, Peter could sense disappointment and exhaustion from him.
HIM: you really are a complete newbie, huh? Fine, I'll guide you from now on
Suddenly, several bizarre-looking creatures appeared around us, staring at Peter and whispering.
"Wow, the NPCs are so smart! They talk like real people!"
[...]
Something seems seriously wrong with this game.
Peter got taught everything from A to Z by them, even though their appearances were... less than appealing.
A few hours later, Peter had full diamond armor.
"Phew, that's enough for now."
He sent one last message.
Peter: thanks for the help, but I gotta log off. See you next time
HIM: yeah, see you
Peter exited the game and stretched.
[Feels like the game is haunted or something?]
"Haunted? I thought it was chill. Nothing jumped out of the screen."
[...huh. Making friends with those things is a talent in itself. Well, if you like it, that's fine.]
"Yeahh..."
He turned off the computer and went straight to bed.
