"Shoot it!"
The boss and his lackey gulped, their eyes dilating as they watched the man at the back of the truck point his gun at the person lying underneath the pile. Their minds raced, knowing that Lola was back there—playing dead.
This was exactly what they meant when they said it wouldn't work.
Because it wouldn't.
And then—
BANG!
The loud gunshot echoed through the air, followed by the shrill screech of tires. The man standing outside the truck, the men around it, the ones farther ahead, and even the man at the back of the truck, froze.
All of them turned toward the sound, only to see a car veering off the road with a violent screech.
The man doing the questioning clenched his teeth.
"Follow him!" he shouted.
At the same time, most of the men sprang into motion. He didn't even stay to question the boss, instead jumping into one of the cars that had pulled over beside him.
