"Is he smoking?!"
Just earlier, Haji was losing his mind. Then, they assumed he was crying. And now… he was smoking?!
Their faces twisted as Scarlet pushed herself up to her feet. She approached the metal bars, her eyes fixed on the smoke drifting from where Haji lay. Chuck and the other two followed, staring at him as well.
Haji's back was still facing them, so all they could see was the smoke curling into the air as he puffed on it.
"What are you doing?" Scarlet asked, her brows furrowed. "Smoking in this situation? Are you crazy?"
Haji didn't answer immediately.
"I quit a long time ago." He moved his arms, and to their surprise, the rope around him had loosened. Once he gained some mobility, he dragged the chair behind him and kicked it away.
Then he rolled onto his back. The cigar Jarvis had tossed earlier was clipped between his teeth. He slowly reached up, removed it, and turned his head toward the cage.
