Chapter 25 - The Memory That Should Not Return

Sanctara dreamed

While the others slept beneath its impossible sky, the city whispered in Syaoran's veins. Its stones recognized his blood. Its halls hummed with memories long buried beneath centuries of silence.

But memory is not a gift.

It is a burden.

And some doors should never open.

---

He awoke to screams.

The stillness of Sanctara was shattered.

Crystals flickered.

Light dimmed.

And a pressure filled the air—like gravity had doubled, tripled, dragging every breath down.

Kira burst into the chamber, blades drawn. "We're under attack"

Syaoran was already moving. "Orrin"

---

They ran through the echoing halls, past flickering illusions and war-born statues.

The sky-ceiling above was cracking—lines of red fire splitting the starlight. Crystalline trees shattered. Water fell from the air like broken glass.

Teren shouted, shielding a collapsing arch with a glowing ward. "He's inside the Veil!"

Aris landed beside them, blade slick with voidblood. "He's not here to kill"

She looked at Syaoran, eyes sharp with dread.

"He's here to make you remember."

---

They found him in the Throne of Ash—a chamber reserved for only the highest of Veilborn, its walls scorched black by magic too ancient to name.

Orrin Kael stood alone beneath a burning star he had conjured—red light spilling across his face.

His armor was cracked, his blade drawn.

And behind him hung a mirror of pure shadow.

A Veilmirror.

Forbidden. Alive. Echoing.

---

"You were close," he said calmly.

"So close to staying forgotten."

Syaoran didn't answer.

Lightning cracked across his shoulders. "What did you do?"

Orrin gestured to the mirror. "I gave it back. The one memory you buried so deep, even the Veil couldn't find it"

He pointed.

> "Look"

---

Syaoran stepped toward the Veilmirror.

And it opened.

The world inside wasn't memory—it was a wound.

---

A floating city ablaze.

Screams.

Children running.

Veilborn falling.

And in the heart of it, a tower of light collapsing in on itself—consumed by a girl wreathed in flames.

Syaoran stood at the top.

She reached for him.

Begged.

> "Please...Don't leave me here"

And he…

Let go.

---

He fell to his knees.

Breath shattered.

Kira moved to his side, but he flinched away.

Orrin's voice echoed through the chamber.

> "That was the first Seal's fall,She was the guardian And you—were her sword"

> "You loved her And you let her die"

---

Sanctara trembled.

The crystals across the city flared with white flame. The Veil groaned with ancient tension.

Teren looked at the sky above, horror in his voice. "The Seal is reacting. It's sensing him—awakening."

Aris raised her blade at Orrin. "Why show him this? Why now?"

Orrin smiled, stepping back toward the Veilmirror.

> "Because I don't need to kill him"

> "He'll do it himself"

He vanished into the mirror.

---

Syaoran stood slowly, the storm in his eyes fractured. Lost.

"She begged me, And I left her...I let the world burn"

Kira grabbed his arm. "That wasn't you"

"It was...I remember now"

Teren clutched the relic case, as the shard inside pulsed uncontrollably. "If the Seal awakens now, it will draw the others. The cult, The Tyrant King"

Aris nodded grimly. "Sanctara's no longer a sanctuary."

---

Far above, high in the Sky Citadel, King Valcheiros stood at the edge of his war balcony, watching the storm that bloomed over the mountains.

A messenger knelt behind him.

"The Fifth has awakened"

Valcheiros smiled.

"Then the hunt begins"
