Confusion, a sense of helplessness.
Countless chaotic and complex emotions crashed over Clark's heart like a tidal wave.
Even though he had wished countless times to be an ordinary person, he had lost the very power he hated just when he needed it to save his mother.
"No, this isn't real!"
Clark pushed himself up, crawled to the Spaceship, and, not being tech-savvy or a scholar, could only vent his anger in a primitive way.
"Bang, bang, bang!"
Clark desperately hammered on the Spaceship's hull with his fists, but how could the technological crystal forged by the great Kryptonian technology be damaged by the strength of an ordinary person?
"Buzz~"
A transparent blue light lit up the surface of the spaceship's hull, then suddenly burst outward from the center of the spaceship.
"Bang!"
A wave of light struck Clark, sending him flying.
His body slammed into a tree branch, and his back burned with pain.
His shoulders and neck felt as if they were being fried.
Clark closed his eyes in pain, sucking in a breath of cold air.
A fragrant breeze entered his nostrils.
"Clark?"
A cold female voice rang out.
Clark hurriedly opened his eyes, and he thought of his Spaceship.
In the maple forest, Kara, wearing a sports shirt and shorts, looked at Clark, who was leaning against the roots of a tree in a sorry state. The girl frowned slightly and walked towards Clark, asking with concern, "Are you okay?"
"I... I'm fine."
Clark's eyes darted around, and his peripheral vision fell on the Spaceship in the grass, praying that Kara wouldn't discover it.
"Let me help you up."
Kara sighed and squatted down, supporting Clark's shoulders.
Black hair brushed across Clark's face, causing the big boy's face to flush slightly.
"What are you doing here?" Kara helped Clark to his feet, a little curious.
"Uh, I was just, I was just taking a walk," Clark said with a sheepish grin, hopping along with Kara towards the path not far away, and didn't forget to change the subject: "What about you? What are you doing here?"
"Me?" Kara licked her moist lips, and the two of them walked along the path: "I'm in charge of checking the cave paintings on the west side. That's the land our family has guarded for generations."
The girl's face was serious: "You know, those Ziben Family, they'll do anything for money."
"Uh." Clark scratched his head and stammered, "Not necessarily, my good friend Gino is pretty good."
"Gino? The tall, handsome boy?"
As the two were chatting, a roaring SUV drove up from the road in the distance.
At a distance of a hundred meters from the two, the SUV driver lightly stepped on the brakes, stopping the brown iron beast beside them.
The car window rolled down. A middle-aged white man wearing sunglasses and sporting a heavily muscled arm tilted his head at the two of them, grinning. "Excuse me, is Wayne Quarry down this road?"
The smell of cigarette smoke drifted out, causing Kara to frown slightly.
But the girl's gaze was mostly fixed on the man in the passenger seat.
He had his eyes closed, arms crossed as if he were napping.
Yet, even in his sleep, her instincts screamed a warning. Kara knew the man wearing the eyepatch was incredibly dangerous.
The kind Clark nodded slightly. "Yes, follow this road and you'll find the quarry..."
Before he could finish, he felt a pain in his waist. He turned to see Kara glaring at him, her eyes signaling him to shut up.
"Great, thanks."
The middle-aged white man brushed his fingers against his temple, then slammed on the accelerator. The SUV roared as it sped forward.
"What's wrong?" Clark was puzzled; Kara's change in behavior was strange.
"Those two guys aren't right," Kara said, her eyes fixed on Clark. "The driver reeks of smoke and gunpowder, while the passenger smells faintly of blood."
The girl rubbed her arms, covered in goosebumps, a testament to how terrifying the passenger was.
"Are they after the cave paintings?"
Hearing Kara's explanation, Clark frowned as well.
"Most likely." Kara slowly released Clark, her tone slightly apologetic. "Sorry, Clark, you might have to go the rest of the way alone. I need to go back and keep an eye on those two."
"They're probably hired thugs from Wayne Enterprises."
Without waiting for Clark to respond, the girl released the boy's shoulder and turned, chasing after the departing vehicle. Her speed rivaled that of a world-class sprinter.
"Kara." Clark hesitated, watching the beautiful figure disappearing down the road. After thinking for a moment, the boy gritted his teeth and, despite the pain in his back, chased after her.
The kind Clark couldn't bear to let Kara face those two menacing, burly men alone.
The scenery outside the window seemed to flow by like water.
Inside the car, noisy rock music blared. Dongqing held the steering wheel with one hand, bobbing his head up and down to the beat.
In the passenger seat, Slade, who had been resting with his eyes closed, slowly opened them.
His gaze swept over the left side mirror. The fleeting images slowed down in an instant. Developing 90% of his brain allowed Slade to enhance and transform his eye nerves and brain processing speed, enabling him to react and make judgments within seconds.
"Dongqing."
Slade's low, raspy voice sounded. He pulled out two handguns and a katana from the storage box at his feet, then quietly said, "Pull over."
The long-cultivated understanding between Dongqing and Slade meant Dongqing trusted Slade implicitly.
The off-road vehicle, which had been speeding, slowly came to a halt at the side of the road.
"Bang!" Slade pushed open the car door and got out.
Standing in the middle of the road, the man ripped open his shirt, revealing orange-yellow metal armor, and put the mask on his head to cover his face.
"Hoo, hoo" Heavy breathing echoed in the silent road.
Assistant Dongqing, holding an M79 Grenade Launcher, got out of the driver's seat and stood beside Deathstroke, on guard.
Dongqing scanned the surroundings, seeing only the golden rays of the setting sun enveloping the earth.
The man lowered his voice, "What did you find?"
"Something's following us," Deathstroke said, drawing two steel blades from his back. The cold, sharp, and snow-white blades reflected the cold light of the setting sun.
"And it's not far off," Deathstroke's remaining eye focused on the depths of the dense forest, his head tilted slightly. "Listen."
The rustling of leaves and branches made a "crackling" sound.
The jungle swayed, producing a "rustling" noise.
The earth seemed to tremble, a "thump-thump" vibration.
Under the setting sun, a massive black shadow slowly emerged, covering the road.
Dongqing's face was filled with shock as he opened his mouth in amazement, exclaiming, "My God, Jesus, Mary, Lucifer, Gabriel!"
Against the backdrop of the setting sun, a gigantic beast stood, dozens of meters tall, with a broad physique, covered in snow-white fur, and baring sharp fangs. It fixed its piercing wolf eyes upon the two figures on the road not far away.
The Giant Wolf slowly opened its mouth.
"Awoo!"
The deafening sound pierced the air and slammed into Deathstroke and Dongqing's ears.
The two groups faced each other.
A maple leaf drifted down, settling by the side of the road.
Underneath his orange and black mask, Slade's deep voice echoed, "Dongqing, this time, for whom does Deathstroke toll?"
