Chapter 248: Diverting Trouble
"Sasuke-kun, what are you doing?" Orochimaru was perplexed to see Sasuke retreat and change direction.
"Let's clean up this mess," he replied without offering further explanation, transforming into an Iwagakure ANBU and guiding Orochimaru northwest.
Meanwhile, numerous Iwa spies were fleeing Kumogakure. Orei, whose codename was "Earth Fall," was frantically making his way through the forest. The Kumo ninjas were swarming, and the aura of his pursuers was closing in. 'Damn Nightingale!' he thought, 'They didn't even warn us. Are we spies really so unreliable?' His only hope was to escape the borders of the Land of Lightning.
Just as he was on the verge of despair, several figures flashed in the shadows. They all wore the standard Iwagakure vests. The leader, in a night owl mask, was probably the ANBU captain.
"Earth Fall, mission accomplished!" the captain praised Orei.
These words, like heavenly music, instantly dispelled the sadness in Orei's heart. Joy washed over him. The village had not given up on them. He no longer doubted the identity of the ANBU. Who else but the village could know their codenames so well?
"Go!" the captain shouted, signaling Orei to follow him.
The Kumo ninjas were pursuing them at an astonishing speed.
"Kill all the Iwagakure spies!" the leading jonin shouted.
"Lightning Style: Pseudo-Darkness!"
"Earth Style: Earth Flow Wall!" an Iwa ANBU unleashed a defense, easily blocking the attack.
"Earth Style: Earth Dragon Hiding Jutsu!"
"Earth Style: Iwagakure Hiding Jutsu!"
"Earth Style: Earth Reflection Fish Jutsu!"
Then, all the ANBU used their own methods to hide.
"Everyone, be careful!" the Kumo jonin stopped, his face alert.
"Earth Style: Rock Fist Technique!"
A figure suddenly appeared behind the jonin and crushed him into a puddle of meat.
"Iwagakure's Aggravated Rock Technique!" the Kumo ninja recognized.
Seeing the strength of the ANBU, the Kumo ninjas realized they were no match and were forced to retreat.
"Hahaha, we finally escaped!" Orei collapsed against a tree, overflowing with joy.
"Shadow Snake Hand!" a hoarse voice suddenly resonated. Several pythons emerged from an ANBU's sleeves and instantly wrapped around Orei.
"How is that possible?!" he was struck by lightning, stunned.
"Orochimaru? It's you!" he reacted, screaming in shock. A figure emerged from the shadows: pale skin, golden pupils, and a faint, chilling smile.
"So this is all a Konoha conspiracy!" Orei frantically connected all the clues. Operation Iwagakure, the support... it was all fake! Trembling with fear and rage, he felt a sense of powerlessness before the legendary Sannin.
"It's a shame you don't have a Kekkei Genkai; otherwise, you would be excellent research material," Orochimaru observed. He snapped his finger, and a tiny poisonous snake shot out, biting Orei's neck with precision, knocking him unconscious.
Orochimaru put away his research materials and told the ANBU captain beside him: "Sasuke-kun, what a great method you have."
