Aveline watched her phone ring for the third time, without making any move to grab it.
By the fourth ring, she sighed, and drew closer to the phone.
The fifth one was when she finally held the phone in her hand.
Her eyes scanned the screen, knowing exactly who the number that showed no name was.
On the sixth ring, she answered.
"Isn't it too late to be calling me, Landon?"
"I needed to hear your voice. It's been what—two days? I miss you, Vee."
She closed her eyes, and took a deep breath before opening them.
"You can't say things like that. It's absolutely wrong and improper, Lan. What do you want? I told you to stay away."
"Come meet up with me and I'll consider listening to you."
"Are you crazy?" Her pupils dilated. "Can't you see how late it is?"
"I don't mean tonight, silly. Let's meet soon, and talk. After that, you can decide what the future of our relationship will be, okay?"
Aveline took a few seconds to think about his offer.
