Aveline didn't want to share her food. But she felt weird eating in the presence of people that were not eating.
Instead of sharing, she carried the food over to the dining room where she sat alone to eat in peace.
"I guess everyone has left us," Freya rose to her feet, and went to sit next to Reese. "How are you doing, Reese?"

"I think your best version is the one we're all afraid of, so you might want to rephrase."
He chuckled at her light jab. Even when she came for others, it was with tact and consideration.

He inhaled sharply. "You can't ask that. I can't answer that question."
