Chapter 36 - You should be happy it was me

As Kai squeezed the water from his shirt, he said calmly,

"You should be thanking me, I was the one who saw you, and no other boy. I bet they wouldn't even help but take pictures. You should even be thanking me for not taking advantage of the situation."

Wren rolled her eyes at Kai, her expression a mix of annoyance and embarrassment, and turned to him, her voice low and serious. "Speak of this to no one, absolutely no one."

As soon as Wren said those words, she felt a deep sense of déjà vu wash over her.

Her head began to ache badly, and even Kai was dumbstruck, his eyes fixed on hers as if trying to read her mind.

Seeing his expression, Wren knew something was wrong, so wrong.

Her eyes seemed to glaze over, and her breathing quickened, as if memories were flooding back to her.

Meanwhile, Kai's heart beat rapidly as he recalled the previous day when Wren discovered his bipolar personalities and he warned her, and how she fainted.

He thought it would be left in the past, but now it was coming back to her, and he knew Wren was someone who was smart and would likely discover his secret.

His expression turned cold at once, unlike his once carefree attitude. He couldn't believe he called Wren smart and got scared at once because of her intelligence and perceptiveness.

Kai's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with thoughts of how much Wren remembered, and what she would do with that knowledge. He took a step back, his movements cautious, as if trying not to startle her.

"Wren, what's wrong?" he asked, his voice low and measured, trying to keep his emotions in check.

But Wren didn't respond, her eyes still fixed on some point in the distance, her face pale.

As Kai watched Wren, he felt a sense of unease creeping over him. He knew he had to be careful, that one wrong move could reveal his secret to her.

He thought back to the previous day, to the moment when Wren discovered his other personality, and how he had warned her to stay away.

But now, it seemed like she was remembering everything, and Kai's anxiety spiked. He didn't know what to do, or how to stop her from uncovering the truth.

All he could do was stand there, frozen in uncertainty, as Wren's eyes slowly focused on him.

As Wren's gaze flickered, her eyes locked onto Kai's, and she nodded her head, agreeing to something only she knew. The nod was almost imperceptible, but Kai caught it, and his heart sank.

Before he could react, Wren turned and sprinted out of his sight, her feet pounding the ground in a frantic rhythm. Her face was deathly pale, and fear was etched on her features.

Kai's eyes widened as he realized she had discovered something, and he ran his hand through his hair, the strands getting tangled in his fingers. "Shit," he muttered, the word barely audible.

The sound of Wren's footsteps faded into the distance, leaving Kai standing alone. He felt a sense of panic rising up, his breath coming in short gasps.

He needed to get away, fast. The thought of everyone knowing about his bipolar disorder terrified him. He couldn't trust Wren with his secret now.

The fear of being exposed, of being seen as weak, was suffocating.

Kai's eyes scanned the surroundings, taking in the serene beauty of the lake, the trees swaying gently in the breeze. But he felt nothing but anxiety, his mind racing with thoughts of escape.

He needed to clear his head before Kuro took over. The familiar sensation of anxiety crept in, and he knew he had to get away from the lake, from Wren, from everything.

Meanwhile, Wren stopped to catch her breath, her heart pounding in her chest like a drum.

She leaned against a tree, her hand on her chest, trying to calm herself down. She couldn't believe the fact she had just realized.

Could Kai like her? It would explain why he was always talking to her, staring at her.

A mix of emotions swirled inside her - surprise, excitement, and a hint of fear. She thought back to their interactions, replaying every conversation, every glance.

Her mind was a jumble of thoughts, and she couldn't make sense of anything. All she knew was that she needed to process this new revelation, and figure out what to do next.

As she stood there, her breathing slowly returned to normal, and her heart rate slowed down.

She pushed herself away from the tree, her eyes fixed on the path ahead. She knew she had to talk to Kai, to confront him about her suspicions.

But a part of her was scared, scared of what he might say, scared of what might happen. She took a deep breath, steeling herself for what was to come. She would face Kai, and she would get answers.
