Hope
Josie could have died. She is this close to ending up with her name etched into a stone at the Cemetery of Brookshigh—because of me.
My hands. My wolf. My rage.
And as much as the creature inside me thinks she deserved it, I know....I know but this isn't the kind of girl I want to become. Killing monsters? I've made peace with that. Becoming one? That's a line I never wanted to cross.
The guilt is unbearable. I haven't even processed seeing Kaleb, Finn, Jeremy, and Lizzie walk in on me—covered in blood, shaking, barely human. Barely me.
"That's what you wanted, wasn't it, Kaleb?" Asher's voice is low, sharp as a blade. "Now you've got it. You just had to make her like us—like you. It wasn't enough to want to kill her."
Kaleb doesn't respond. He doesn't even look at Asher. His eyes are fixed on me from below, unreadable and shadowed. And when our gazes meet through the dorm window, something inside me breaks.
