The city lights blurred past me like smears of gold and silver through the windshield. My fingers clenched the steering wheel tighter as I tried to swallow the lump in my throat. Every word Laura had said replayed in my head, slicing through me again and again.
"I'm choosing closure."
Closure. That was what she called it. That was what she called walking right back into the arms of the man who shattered her.
I scoffed bitterly, shaking my head. "Closure, my ass."
The phone buzzed again on the passenger seat, vibrating against the leather. I ignored it at first, my jaw tightening. But it wouldn't stop, one ring after another, like an annoying reminder that life was still going on while I sat here unraveling.
Finally, I grabbed it and glanced at the screen.
Erica.
My stomach twisted. What the hell did she want now?
I should've let it ring out, but for some stupid reason, I swiped the answer button. "Hello," I said hoarsely, clearing my throat.
