Chapter 199 - [199]: Hisoka and Shalnark

If conventional intelligence channels were used to track Feitan's whereabouts, it would likely leave behind traces that could expose one's identity.

But Morrow relied on Kalluto's people-finding ability, so he had no such concerns.

Moreover, with his deliberate targeting of Feitan, he could utilize the scorching effect of Rising Sun to incinerate all possible combat traces left at the scene.

Under these circumstances, there was no need to worry about leaving any clues.

Besides, members of the Phantom Troupe typically operated alone except during group missions. Even if one were to die on the roadside someday, other members would have difficulty finding the body.

For instance, the current Feitan had been reduced to a miniature lump of charcoal, who could possibly recognize him?

Thus, after resolving the pressure from the Death Threshold, Morrow thought of freedom rather than continuing down this path to trouble the Phantom Troupe.

However, if one were to delve deeper into the matter...

It couldn't be entirely ruled out that the Phantom Troupe might use the uniqueness of Nen abilities to find him through extraordinary means.

Morrow watched Kurapika, who was murmuring and shouting like a child, venting his emotions.

As someone aware of the Kurta Clan massacre, he could somewhat understand Kurapika's current feelings.

Perhaps it was this empathy...

That led Morrow to think that if he were truly faced with the possibility of being found by the Phantom Troupe, the safest course of action would be to hunt down the members of the Phantom Troupe one by one.

Although this decision came with risks, from another perspective, it was also the only way to completely eliminate those risks.

Boom.

The thunder in the sky continued relentlessly, and the rain showed no signs of letting up.

Kurapika slowly lowered his hand. No matter how much he vented, it couldn't alleviate the pain in his heart.

The path left for him was always only one.

That was to bear the pain and walk forward with unwavering determination...

Kurapika struggled to adjust his emotions, then turned to look at Morrow standing in the rain.

There were too many questions he wanted to ask, but just like at the beginning, he found it difficult to speak.

Morrow did not comfort Kurapika, only leaving a sentence as he turned to leave.

"Follow me."

"..."

Kurapika stood frozen in place.

Kalluto walked side by side with Morrow, glancing back at Kurapika.

Kurapika wiped the rainwater from his face. Though his limbs felt weak and powerless, he gritted his teeth and jogged toward Morrow and Kalluto.

The three soon left the cemetery and headed into the distance.

A long time later, the heavy rain continued to pour down.

A tall figure holding an umbrella arrived outside the cemetery.

That figure was unmistakably Hisoka.

His gaze passed over the collapsed wall, looking at the cemetery inside, which had been reduced to scorched earth. He narrowed his eyes slightly, feeling both surprised and filled with a strong desire to investigate.

"How intense."

Hisoka murmured to himself.

The only reason he was here was to track Morrow's whereabouts.

And the scorched earth battlefield before him was undoubtedly the result of a Nen ability battle.

Who was responsible?

He had no evidence, but his intuition told him it was related to Morrow.

With this thought, Hisoka stepped into the cemetery with great interest.

On the altar, the criminal who had been thrown into the raging flames had long turned to ashes, leaving only a shattered outline. In the entire area, the only thing that could be linked to a corpse was the small, charred remains of Feitan's body, washed down by the rain to just a fragment.

Hisoka leaned on one hand, surveying the fresh battle scars around him with keen interest. It was hard to imagine what kind of Nen ability could cause such astonishing destruction.

So...

Whose was the only body left at the scene?

Could it be Morrow?

Hisoka pondered.

Suddenly, his phone buzzed in his pocket.

Hisoka withdrew his gaze from the charred remains and took out his phone.

Upon answering, Illumi's voice came through: "Hisoka, I just saw your message."

"Just saw it, huh…"

Hisoka thought the message was from a while back.

Completely unapologetic, Illumi said flatly, "I saw you mentioned in your message that you wanted to commission someone to find a person. Although I did say last time that if you had such a need, you could ask my family for help, I'm sorry to disappoint you this time."

"No problem."

Hisoka didn't mind and didn't even press for a reason.

After all, he no longer needed it.

But Illumi caught the implication in his words and asked, "Have you already found the person you were looking for?"

"Not yet, but I'm close."

Hisoka replied casually.

Illumi paused for a moment before asking, "How much did it cost?"

"Everything."

Hisoka stated bluntly.

On the other end of the line, Illumi's eyes went deadpan, recalling how Hisoka had spent all his money the last time to find someone.

It was precisely because of that he had suggested to Hisoka that if he needed to find someone, he could commission his family instead of spending so much money.

He hadn't expected that just "accidentally" overlooking Hisoka's message would lead to Hisoka spending all his money again to find someone.

But the problem was...

"Hisoka."

"Hmm?"

"I hope you haven't forgotten that you still owe me money and haven't paid it back yet."

"…"

Hisoka fell uncharacteristically silent.

Since owing Illumi a large sum, he had truly embraced the grind, intending to earn money quickly to clear his debt.

But after being stood up by Morrow, he ended up spending all the money he'd earned on information to find him.

Hearing that Hisoka had spent everything, Illumi didn't expect him to repay the debt anytime soon.

Even if he had seen Hisoka's message earlier, Illumi wouldn't have been able to help anyway, since Kalluto wasn't home.

"Hisoka, can I ask you something?"

"Go ahead."

"Is the person you're willing to spend all your money to find… the same person as last time?"

"Yes."

"Then I'm even more curious. Who could it be that has you so invested?"

"Heh."

Hisoka chuckled softly, suddenly feeling the urge to share. Suppressing the excitement in his tone, he said slowly, "His name is Morrow…"

"Morrow?"

On the other end, Illumi's deadpan expression vanished, replaced by a deep, icy gaze.

"Is this Morrow you're talking about the champion of the Battle Olympia at Heavens Arena?"

"Yeah."

Hisoka sounded surprised. "What, you actually follow events like that?"

"Just happened to see it."

Illumi brushed it off dismissively.

How could he possibly be interested in such competitions? The real reason it caught his attention was simply because the champion's name was Morrow.

Soon after, Illumi withdrew the icy bloodlust in his eyes and asked, "Hisoka, you want to find Morrow to kill him, right?"

"If possible, I'd hate to 'break' him."

Hisoka seemed to answer beside the point.

Illumi, familiar with Hisoka's interests, took it as confirmation that Hisoka indeed intended to kill Morrow.

Who would have thought...

The one Hisoka was so fixated on turned out to be Morrow.

This was quite interesting.

"Hisoka, do you need my help to kill Morrow?"

Illumi quickly added, "Hmm, free of charge."

"Illumi, don't be like this, you're scaring me."

"I'm serious, Hisoka."

A hint of sincerity crept into Illumi's tone. "Don't judge me by my usual self; I can be quite 'humane' at times."

"I'm touched, but no need."

Hisoka could tell Illumi was indeed serious and couldn't help feeling puzzled, but he firmly declined. "You know I'm not interested in 'group activities'."

"Ah, well then..."

Illumi thought for a moment and said, "If you're short on funds to find Morrow, you can always borrow from me."

"..."

Hisoka was once again rendered speechless by Illumi's words, growing even more confused.

Hearing Illumi say "free of charge" was already bizarre enough.

Now, to help him find Morrow, Illumi was even offering to lend him money.

"Do you have a grudge against Morrow?"

Hisoka couldn't help but ask.

Illumi immediately denied it. "No, it's just... if you need money, ask me."

With that, he hung up the phone.

Hisoka lowered his hand, staring at the "call ended" message on the screen, and murmured, "Seems like there really is a grudge."

However, as long as Illumi didn't interfere in his fight with Morrow, he wouldn't dwell on it.

Putting away his phone, Hisoka's desire to find Morrow grew even more urgent, to the point where he suddenly lost interest in the battle traces around him.

No longer surveying the scorched earth of the cemetery, Hisoka opened his umbrella sword and strode out.

As he exited the cemetery, he noticed someone else holding an umbrella in the rain, approaching from ahead.

"Oh?"

Hisoka raised an eyebrow in surprise as he recognized the figure.

The person, upon seeing Hisoka, also showed surprise.

"Hisoka, what are you doing here?"

The umbrella-wielding figure was Shalnark, who had come looking for Feitan, never expecting to run into Hisoka here.

Before Hisoka could answer, Shalnark caught sight of the scorched cemetery, and his expression instantly changed.

Hisoka wasn't familiar with Feitan's ability, so it never crossed his mind that the charred earth was Feitan's doing.

But Shalnark knew Feitan's ability well and recognized at a glance that the cemetery's state was caused by Rising Sun.

Without another word to Hisoka, Shalnark rushed into the cemetery at top speed and immediately spotted the miniature charred remains.

"Who did Feitan fight? And whose remains are these?"

Staring at the charred corpse, Shalnark was both shocked and suspicious. He swiftly turned to look back at where Hisoka had been, only to see Hisoka walking back into the cemetery under his umbrella.

Shalnark quickly assessed Hisoka's condition.

It wasn't Hisoka... Not to mention that there were no signs of battle on Hisoka's body, even if a fierce fight had just ended, Hisoka would never be as calm as he was now.

Hisoka asked with keen interest, "Shalnark, judging by your reaction, could the person on the ground be one of our 'comrades'?"

"..."

Shalnark did not answer. Instead, he scrutinized Hisoka with a grave expression and repeated his earlier question, "Hisoka, why are you here?"

"Just passing by on a walk~"

Hisoka narrowed his eyes slightly, already forming some guesses in his mind.

Shalnark, of course, did not believe this explanation and was particularly concerned about Hisoka's earlier reaction.

Without pressing further about Hisoka's reason for being there, he frowned and asked directly, "Hisoka, do you know something?"

"I told you, I was just passing by."

Hisoka replied, unmoved.

Even if there was the slightest possibility...

He would never utter the name "Morrow."

Because Morrow could only be his.
