"Mother… you…"
Adam's words never finished before the sound of skin meeting skin cracked through the cold chamber.
His head snapped to the side as pain exploded across his face.
Sephora stood before him, chest rising, eyes blazing with a fury that he was sure she had never shown.
"How can you be so useless!" she screamed. "I placed everything I had on you. Every single thing! I thought you would be the son strong enough to drag me out of this filth. I trusted you with my life, my sins, my future."
"Mother!" Adam staggered forward, disbelief trembling in his voice.
"Enough!" she yelled as Lightning flared from her palm and the strike hit him square in the chest.
Adam was thrown back violently, his body slamming into the floor. A strangled gasp tore from his throat as his lungs refused to draw air.
His hands clutched at his chest, fingers shaking as pain burrowed deep into his bones.
For the first time in his existence, a horrifying thought crossed his mind.
