Chapter 17 - chapter sixteen(home coming)

A chilly Monday morning. The hoot of cars filled the air, and it felt like an angel coming from heaven.

I had good news for my wife and household. I had been able to open a new multimillion-dollar company.

But a question lingered in my mind: What really happened?

Cutting a long story short, the call had been a serious one. The shareholders in my company were furious. The scandal that had happened at school was so deep that it had threatened the reputation of the company.

But when I was on the plane, something great happened.

Flashback.

Maria opened the door and welcomed me humbly.

At home, the children had missed me so much that I received a very warm hug from both Ashley and Jude.

I asked them how they were, and they said they were fine and healthy.

Jude was a bit remorseful for the drama he had caused at the school. Instead of beating him, I hugged him and thanked him so much.

My wife was still in the room.

I noticed some changes in her. The happiness we had shared a few years ago seemed to be fading.

I went to the room and found her looking on.

I gave her a backhand hug, caressed her neck, and romantically told her, "I missed you."

She turned around and told me, "You miss me, or you miss the house?"

I was a bit confused.

"What do you mean by the term 'house'?"

She said, "Never mind."

I told her, "Close your eyes. I have a surprise for you."

I had bought her favourite Kaskazi gown-designed cloth in Japan.

She didn't look that happy. I saw a fake smile on her face.

She went directly to her phone and started watching videos on Glass TV, a popular app in Cancer City.

Then she told me that she had important things to talk to me about.

I listened.

She said she didn't want Maria, the house help, in the room.

"It's either I divorce you or you kick out Maria."

But I told her to give me a reason why she wanted her gone.

In thought, nature called, and I had to receive it.

Then, later, there was a knock on the room door and silent murmurs heard from afar.

When I came back, it was so silent.

I asked my wife, "Are you sure about that decision?"

She told me she was just stressed and that I should forget it.

She said something like that, and I was really confused.

Suddenly, Maria called everyone to have evening food in the dining room.
