Chapter 71 - CHAPTER -66: The Snap

The second night of detention started quiet. Too quiet.

Rain tapped against the windows, soft and steady, like the world was pretending everything was normal. But inside that dim room, nothing was.

Ayan sat at the same desk as before, posture straight, eyes fixed on the clock. He didn't look up when Kairo entered, soaked from the rain, hair damp and shirt clinging in places Ayan tried not to notice.

Kairo threw his bag on the desk, the sound breaking the calm like a crack of thunder.

"Still pretending you don't care?" he asked.

Ayan's pen didn't pause. "Still pretending you're not obsessed?"

That earned a low laugh — not kind, not amused. Dangerous.

"You think too highly of yourself, Omega."

"Do I?" Ayan finally met his gaze, his voice steady but his eyes burning. "Then why are you always the one standing too close?"

Kairo's jaw flexed. The smirk faltered, replaced by something darker — something that looked too much like hunger.

He stepped forward. "Maybe I like watching you flinch."

"I don't flinch," Ayan said, standing up so they were chest to chest.

"You blinked," Kairo murmured, voice low enough to feel against his skin.

The air went still. The rain outside grew louder.

For a second, neither moved — until Kairo's hand shot out, gripping Ayan's wrist, pulling him just enough that their breath tangled.

"Say it," Kairo hissed. "Say what you're hiding."

Ayan's lips parted, but no sound came out — only the faint, trembling inhale that betrayed more than words could.

Then he twisted free, stepping back, eyes flashing.

"You wouldn't survive the truth."

Kairo's smile returned, slow and sharp.

"Then I'll drag it out of you."

He turned and left before Ayan could answer, the door slamming behind him — leaving the room heavy with what neither of them was ready to face.

Outside, thunder rolled.
