The very next day, the classroom was buzzing with noise. Students filled the seats, chatting excitedly about who would end up on whose team.
The door slid open, and suddenly the room grew quiet.
"Yo! Uzumaki Naruto is here. Believe it!" shouted a loudmouthed blond, almost deafening the pink-haired boy beside him.
Sukuna had two thoughts about launching a dismantle at the annoying, clueless idiot just then.
Naruto and Sukuna walked in together, making everyone dazed. Didn't they fail? That's what many thought at least.
"Wait a second…" Kiba muttered, blinking in shock. "Aren't you two supposed to have failed?!"
"Yeah!" Ino gasped. "You didn't graduate!"
Whispers spread through the room. Most of the class stared, unable to believe what they were seeing.
Sasuke raised a brow, clearly annoyed at seeing Naruto grinning like an idiot but also sighing in relief. He knew about his own sister's condition by now, and if she could pass, then so should Naruto and Sukuna.
Especially Sukuna. So, he wasn't that worried, but seeing both the boys and his longtime training partners there, he finally felt relieved.
Sakura, on the other hand, looked almost unaffected. Being Sukuna's sister, she usually knew what was going on with him before others. She was the first one to know that Sukuna actually passed. Internally, she was also just as relieved seeing her brother there.
Naruto scratched his head awkwardly but grinned wide. "Hehe… It's a secret!"
Sukuna didn't even bother to explain. He simply slid into an empty chair, his calm expression telling everyone he didn't care what they thought—until a red blur collided into his side, almost throwing him out of the class.
"Sukuna, why didn't you tell me you failed the test yesterday? You didn't even wait for me. What gives? Do you know how worried I was for you?" Karin protested, looking pouty and wronged.
"Oi, I also almost didn't make it, you know," Naruto said with a deadpan look, not even earning an eye roll from the girl. Her eyes were solely occupied by Sukuna.
Before anyone could ask further, Iruka entered with his usual clipboard, saving Sukuna a long-ass explanation he dreaded.
"Alright, everyone, settle down! Congratulations on passing the academy. Now it's time to announce your teams."
Everyone went silent, anticipation filling the air.
After a simple introduction to their upcoming duties, struggles, and expectations, Iruka began, "Team 7: Naruto Uzumaki, Sakura Haruno, and Sasuke Uchiha."
"YES!" Naruto and Sakura said at the same time, then both turned to glare at each other.
Sakura's smile faded quickly. "Why do I have to be stuck with Naruto?" she groaned, though her eyes softened as she looked at Sasuke. "At least Sasuke-kun is with me…"
Naruto clenched his fists. "Great, Sakura's with me! But why do I have to be with that stuck-up Sasuke?!"
Sasuke didn't respond. He only gave a cold smirk, clearly above the childish complaints.
All three members of Team 7—Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke—had secretly hoped Sukuna would be with them. Each for their own reasons, but mainly because the boy was strong, dependable, and a really good friend to them all.
"Team 8: Hinata Hyuga, Shino Aburame, and Kiba Inuzuka."
Kiba slammed his fist into his palm. "Yes! This team is gonna rock!" Hinata nodded quietly, though her eyes flickered toward Naruto before quickly looking down. Shino only adjusted his glasses, silent as ever.
"Team 9 is already active."
Iruka continued, "Team 10: Shikamaru Nara, Ino Yamanaka, and Choji Akimichi."
The three of them looked satisfied. Ino cheered, "Perfect! We're together!" Choji smiled happily while Shikamaru only muttered, "What a drag…"
"And finally," Iruka said, pausing for effect, "Team 11: Sukuna Haruno, Kiyomi Uchiha, and Karin Uzumaki."
The classroom erupted again.
"What!" Kiyomi exclaimed, clearly unhappy. "Why him of all people?" She sent a glare toward Sukuna, almost scowling.
Sukuna didn't even look at her. He leaned back in his chair, arms crossed. "If you got a problem, take it up with the Hokage." He shrugged.
Karin, however, was practically glowing. "This is the best! I get to be on Sukuna's team!" She smiled so widely it made Ino roll her eyes.
She was the only girl who didn't get to be in the team she wished for.
Iruka clapped his hands to regain control. "That's enough. You'll meet your jonin instructors soon. They'll explain more to you."
One by one, jonin sensei began arriving. Kurenai appeared to take Team 8. Asuma came to collect Team 10.
As expected, only Kakashi was missing, his team waiting impatiently. And if nothing changed, they would be waiting a bit longer until that scarecrow came around.
But the biggest surprise came when the door slid open again, and a man with dark hair tied neatly under his bandana appeared. His expression was calm, a senbon dangling from his mouth.
"Genma Shiranui," Iruka announced. "He'll be leading Team 11."
Both Sukuna and Kiyomi froze. Their eyes widened slightly—for different reasons.
Kiyomi, seeing the man appear, knew that Izumi didn't succeed. Izumi had told her she would try to be her jonin sensei; however, it was obvious that she failed. Kiyomi couldn't help but accept this decision.
Sukuna pursed his lips. He wasn't expecting Genma of all people, but it made sense. Anko wasn't a jonin, and Yamato should still be an Anbu captain. No one was more suitable to lead here than Genma.
Sukuna actually liked his character a lot. He wasn't the strongest, neither did he have much screen time—in fact, less than even TenTen. But still, the man had style.
'But the question stands, what can he teach me?' Sukuna sighed to himself.
Karin clasped her hands together in excitement. "We're in good hands then!"
"Hope so." Sukuna remained nonchalant with that reply.
Genma motioned with his head. "Let's go."
The three followed him out of the academy and into a quiet training ground surrounded by trees. Once there, Genma turned to face them.
"Introductions first," he said, quite nonchalant. "I'll start. My name is Shiranui Genma. My likes are quiet mornings, training, and barbecue. My dislikes are arrogance and people who don't respect teamwork. My dream…" He paused slightly, his expression tightening for a bit before he sighed. "I got none."
He gestured toward the students. "Now you."
Karin jumped in first. "My name's Karin Uzumaki! I like Sukuna, medical jutsu, and eating ramen! I dislike anyone who bullies people weaker than them. And my dream is…" She recalled the letter she wrote to her mother and grinned.
"I dream to be a strong kunoichi and protect my loved ones." She smiled and looked over at Sukuna and then the village in general.
Kiyomi groaned loudly. "Oh please…"
"Alright. Next." Genma acted like he didn't even hear any of those words, just going through the routine.
Kiyomi straightened, flipping her hair back. "Kiyomi Uchiha. I like training and reading. I dislike show-offs and… certain people." She flicked her eyes at Sukuna briefly. Sukuna really had no idea what he did to earn her ire. Honestly, he hadn't done anything to get that.
"My dream is to become strong enough to restore my clan's pride."
"Okay, last one." Genma turned to Sukuna.
Sukuna leaned lazily against a tree, shrugging. "Name's Sukuna Haruno. I like fighting, sleeping, and not being bothered. I occasionally like cooking, cutting, and fire.
My dislikes… well, I believe it's a weakness. It's honestly disgusting to me.
As for dreams…" He smirked faintly. "Unfortunately, I don't have any. After all, dreams are for uncertain wishes. Kids have those. I have goals.
Goals which have to be done."
Genma studied him for a long moment before replying. "Cool."
"Now, let's start the final test."
