One second Sukuna was standing ten feet away from Yagura, and the next he was right next to him, the punch almost connecting if not for Yagura raising his hook-ended staff to block the said attack.
But that cost him. Sukuna, with the knowledge from the Scroll of Sealing—or rather the most likely illegal copy which Danzo had lying around in his base—had learned many techniques, at least those he could with the given limitations of this world's power system.
One such technique was Tsunade's monstrous chakra-infused strength. He used to be a big fan of flashy techniques in his last life, Kamehameha, Biju Bomb, you name it, and he never gave too much of a look into the less flashy yet unavoidably powerful techniques like Tsunade's chakra-infused punches.
However, certain bald hero sure changed his opinion when the first season of Caped Baldy arrived. God, that animation—Madhouse Studios nailed it back then—but still he yearned for flashy techniques. His inner Chunibyo never died, like ever.
However, only after learning Tsunade's technique did he really appreciate how awesome it was. No buildup time, no flashes alerting the enemy about a powerful attack coming, and most importantly, even he could use it.
With a few magical vows, he learned the technique and was punching in a way that would put even Yuki Tsukumo to shame.
With that punch his curse energy roared out. It wasn't a Black Flash to his dismay, and he still couldn't get that technique right all the time, with the current rate being seven out of ten times.
But that was more than enough to send Yagura flying back. His staff had visible cracks running around it.
The impact was brutal.
Yagura flew back like a launched arrow, crashing across the ground.
"So strong… from just one punch?" Yagura muttered. His eyes finally took that serious look which denoted that he wasn't just fighting anyone, he was fighting a real enemy.
Sukuna cracked his neck and stepped forward calmly. "Come on. Show me what you got."
That taunt was enough.
Yagura's expression hardened. He lowered his stance, no longer treating Sukuna like a kid. "Fine. I'll fight you seriously."
He dashed in this time, almost as fast as Sukuna's earlier speed. Maybe faster, but unlikely. His staff whirled like spinning wind and came down on Sukuna's head like a hammer.
Sukuna instantly raised his arm up, blocking with his forearms. The blows were loud and heavy, almost sending a shockwave beneath Sukuna, but he didn't budge—just grinned.
'Almost reminded me of Shibuya… haha…'
Instead of backing off, like how most would do, Sukuna counterattacked with quick, brutal punches, forcing Yagura to step back again and again.
Sukuna's speed was insane. His feet barely touched the ground, his form sharp and precise. Every strike aimed to break bones.
In a second, several strong bone-crushing punches landed on Yagura's guard. Yagura too was a seasoned shinobi. Battle-hardened, he knew how to fight an enemy he didn't know much about.
Observing the boy, he could tell that he was the Taijutsu type; nothing else made sense of his monstrous strength.
Yagura leapt away, breathing harder than he expected. Former Mizukage he might be, but he wasn't a Taijutsu-type shinobi; if anything his body itself wouldn't allow him to be one. He was more into Ninjutsu.
So even guarding those bone-crushing punches almost rattled the Jinchuriki.
"You're far from a normal genin… so I can't hold back either, I guess. Alas, I was hoping to avoid trouble with Leaf over this issue. Guess no matter what, conflict can't be avoided in this world…"
He formed fast hand signs. Almost blurred.
In seconds, a Water Dragon Bullet roared forward, a giant serpent made of churning water. Sukuna sprinted, dodging just in time as the dragon slammed into the earth behind him, breaking a crater.
The sound jolted others fighting further away. Kakashi was still tangled up with Zabuza. Handling the Demon of the Mist in his Bloody Mist was a bloody hard task to do.
Kakashi wanted to end their fight quick, but Zabuza wouldn't let him go. It was a mess.
Another jutsu came instantly—Water Mirror. A reflective sheet of water appeared behind Sukuna, forming a clone that mimicked him perfectly. It attacked with the same speed Sukuna used earlier.
Sukuna blocked his own mirrored punch, irritation flashing in his eyes. "Tch… annoying."
In an instant, his curse technique activated, and the body of the mirrored doppelganger was cut into pieces. It was his technique Cleave in action.
Everything happened so fast that Yagura didn't even get to see what took out his technique. How did the pink-haired boy do it?
Still, Yagura kept the pressure. He created several water bullets, firing them like high-speed projectiles. Sukuna weaved between them, but one grazed his cheek.
'This wasn't the fight I was hoping for actually.' What could he say? He wished for a real hearty battle, not like this—the man was just running away and blasting him with long-range water jutsu.
It was really so annoying!
"You've got good speed," Yagura admitted, "but how long can you keep up like this?"
Sukuna grinned. "Long enough, however, that doesn't mean I intend to."
Sukuna blitzed forward, closing the gap in a single heartbeat. Yagura tried to make distance, but Sukuna was fast.
Faster than Yagura could weave more hand signs and launch another jutsu at him.
Sukuna's fists hammered into Yagura's guard, cracking the staff further. Yagura pushed back with a chakra-boosted kick, sending a shockwave across the field.
Sukuna wasn't planning on letting him go. He went ahead to deliver another blow, however, just as he arrived near the former Mizukage, the small body of the Jinchuriki blasted open into water.
'Water clone?' Sukuna was quick to pick Yagura's real location with his senses.
He was right beneath him. Before Sukuna could even react, the ground exploded into pieces. Shattering like glass, the explosion was enough to once again draw the attention of others who were fighting a little away from them.
Sukuna was caught off guard—at least Yagura was sure of it.
But the next moment Yagura's pupils shrank.
"Tch, tch… so that's what experience brings you, yeh? A strategy when fighting and a lot of cunning."
He turned back to the exploded land. From the debris and dust was walking out a person, completely unharmed, still grinning like nothing happened.
"Bu-but how? I got you in that one." Yagura stuttered. He was sure that he got the boy with that attack. It wasn't a clone nor did the boy have time for a replacement.
What did he do?
Yagura couldn't help but narrow his eyes as memories of a certain masked man reappeared.
'No… it can't be him. This one here is just a boy.' Yagura shook his head. The memories of being controlled by Obito had haunted him even to this day.
"He doesn't have the same chakra as the masked man, Yagura. However, stay alert. This boy's chakra is different. It reeks of malice. I don't even know whether calling it chakra is still valid. It feels different." Isobu, who was also observing the match, said.
"Okay." Yagura nodded. Internally he sighed though. At least it wasn't the masked man. It was a relief for him, but at the same time a regret. He wished to take his revenge against that man who controlled him with the Sharingan.
'Sharingan…'
Yagura couldn't help but wonder whether Konoha was behind it.
Yagura, in fact, sent many spies over to Konoha to learn anything about this masked man. In those earlier days after waking up from his Genjutsu imprisonment and stabilising the village, Yagura wished nothing else but to declare war against Konoha for what they did.
Back then he was so sure that it was Konoha who planned the entire Bloody Mist through him to weaken Hidden Mist Village.
If not for the weak state of his own rule and the Hidden Mist, he might have really initiated a war.
However, he learned that the Uchiha clan was wiped out—and at the same time he himself was broken free of the Genjutsu encasing him. Yagura wasn't sure anymore.
This couldn't be a coincidence; the Uchiha clan was definitely behind what happened to him back then. No one else could use Sharingan that well but a Uchiha.
But after the clan was annihilated by Uchiha Itachi, Yagura wasn't sure whether it was Hidden Leaf behind what happened to him or just the Uchiha clan.
If it was in his power, he might as well blast the entire Hidden Leaf to smithereens. However, just as he said earlier, Hidden Mist wasn't ready for a war. It wasn't when he woke up and found out the truth, and it still wasn't ready now, five years later.
That was why working with Gato was so important for the village economy.
It was hard to contain a decade's worth of anger and pain. As Yagura's mind delved back into the painful memories, his emotions started to turn dark, and with negative emotions his Biju's chakra erupted out.
Both Kakashi and Zabuza paused their fight upon sensing Isobu's chakra leaking.
'Damn Yagura, does he really need that chakra to beat that brat?!' Zabuza cursed under his breath.
While Yagura was uncontrolled for a long time, even to this day he was monitored and was ordered by the new Mizukage to restrain his Biju's chakra on all occasions.
The terror of him going on a rampage in his Biju Mode back in the Hidden Mist days wasn't forgotten.
There was an instinctive dislike toward Yagura in the village even after knowing that he was controlled. And this had nothing to do with him being a Jinchuriki—if that was the case, then he would never have become a Kage in the first place.
It had a lot to do with his past actions. Controlled or not, those actions were not something he could run away from. None can run from the past.
Kakashi's anxiety shot through the roof when he sensed the Biju's chakra. He wished to just rush back to Sukuna's side; however, Zabuza was there to stop him. The Demon of the Hidden Mist wasn't planning on letting the Copy Ninja go anywhere.
Sakura, Sasuke, and Naruto also sensed the chakra. They felt the pressure but couldn't tell what it was unlike the Nine Tails inside Naruto and Karin.
Sukuna though was the first one to sense this malice. And his reaction was simple.
He took his position, motioning the Jinchuriki to bring it on with a wide grin on his face.

A/N : What do you think, can Sukuna take on a Biju.
Here's my take, I believe he isn't strong enough to completely go against a Biju, outside his domain of course.
But again, there is also which Biju he is fighting matters, like he can fight lesser Biju pretty easily than those Biju with higher tails.
