Chapter 153 - William, So Terrifying

Among Muggles, there's always been a curious urban legend, supposedly, those who remain single for 25 (some say 30) years straight unlock a mystical transformation: they become wizards.

Of course, this legend is pure nonsense. Dumbledore didn't become the greatest wizard simply because Grindelwald got arrested. Voldemort wasn't crowned the Dark Lord because he died a virgin. And Professor Snape certainly didn't become one of Hogwarts' top duelists just because Lily married someone else.

That's why, despite the elderly vampire's thinning hair, there was no reason to assume he was some hidden master… probably.

After all, from a magical accumulation standpoint, this kind of old man couldn't possibly be weak, because whatever else you say about vampires, they've got one undeniable advantage: longevity. Just how long had this old blood mage lived to let his hair turn that grey?

No one knew.

But Allen understood one thing clearly, it wasn't looking good.

One spell, just one, barely grazed past him, and instantly shattered his confidence. His [Dark Shield] from Morgana was obliterated at the exact moment the opponent cast his spell. Both attack and defense were annihilated in a single clash.

Allen quickly reconstructed a new magic shield, but his expression turned grim. The [Dark Shield] was supposed to nullify all spell effects before it even cracked, yet this man had broken through it with ease.

"How fascinating… truly fascinating. It's been a long time since I met such an amusing little brat." The vampire smiled as Allen summoned another barrier. The anger from losing his subordinates had already vanished from his face.

"One hundred years? Two hundred? Maybe longer? How long has it been since I've taken a fresh bloodkin?" Several floating blood orbs formed around him, casually blocking Allen's counter-spells. The vampire's excitement only grew.

"I can smell Polyjuice Potion on you… your scent tells me, you're younger than you appear. My god, what a perfect gift from Cain himself!" He even lowered his wand and began walking straight toward Allen, ignoring his spells.

"What a glorious day, Slytherin's legacy, fresh, abundant blood… and a perfect heir!" One of Allen's spells finally pierced through a blood orb, but it hardly made a difference. There were plenty more where that came from.

"Stop resisting, no matter how much of a genius you are, it's pointless. And really, what's so bad about being a vampire?" He reached out, trying to catch Allen, who was scrambling to retreat while hurling spells.

"Think about it, when all the other wizards wither away in despair, you'll remain, eternally youthful, watching them return to dust while you smile. Isn't that beautiful?" His failed attempts at catching Allen were clearly frustrating him, but he pressed on, still trying to convince him to join the undead.

Too bad Allen had zero interest in joining the bloodsucker ranks. Vampires? Please. Look at the beings from Runeterra, some of them lived through entire eras! If he wanted immortality, he'd go for something with a little more class.

Eventually, even the vampire got tired of the cat-and-mouse game. And just as Allen was trying to plan a sneak attack, he was shocked to see the vampire transform, in broad daylight!

What the hell?! Allen's entire strategy had hinged on catching him off-guard while he tried to chase in sunlight, but this bastard didn't even fear the sun anymore?!

If Allen had been as well-versed in Leona, the Radiant Dawn's lore, as he was in Ezreal's, he might've laughed in this vampire's face and shown him what real sunlight felt like. Unfortunately, he wasn't.

Knowing that any failed attempt at taking this vampire down could be fatal, Allen didn't waste another word. He left a golden streak behind him as he vanished.

Arcane Shift, courtesy of Ezreal, the Prodigal Explorer.

And if Allen was going on an adventure, you bet he wasn't going without the League's best explorer's skills.

Though Ezreal's adventuring experience hadn't helped much this time, his powerful escape spell had saved the day, even if it was much harder to use than Allen expected.

The spell had a long cooldown, just like Sivir's spell shield, you couldn't spam it. Using it repeatedly in a short span risked serious, even permanent damage to the body.

Its range was also limited, and you had to be very sure what was on the other side of a wall before blinking through it, or you might end up injured or worse.

Still, flaws and all, a life-saving spell was a life-saving spell. Especially since Allen had already been through this corridor before and knew the layout.

As he reappeared behind a wall, the vampire's furious scream echoed down the hallway behind him. Clearly, he was mad, after all, he had "used his ult" and still didn't land the kill.

Allen felt no sympathy for the lonely old bloodsucker. He popped [Ghost] and sprinted in the opposite direction.

At that moment, he wasn't even thinking about fighting back. The opponent's power was simply on a whole different level, they weren't even close.

Fortunately, that's when Allen finally realized what this place reminded him of.

Yes, Hogwarts.

This place bore an uncanny resemblance to Hogwarts. But really, it wasn't that surprising, after all, Hogwarts was built on the ruins of Salazar Slytherin's ancestral home.

Thanks to his knowledge of the terrain, Allen managed to shake off the terrifying vampire… probably.

Given that vampire's freakishly sharp senses, Allen wasn't even sure he was safe, even while in stealth mode.

So, he made a decision, it was time to leave. Time to teleport back to safety.

Return spells were generally reliable, that much was true.

Unfortunately, they also had a flaw, the casting time was too long.

Just as Allen began channeling the return spell, a vampire's spell interrupted it with ease.

"Yo, a little, " The vampire had probably planned to gloat. Too bad he never got to finish the sentence.

A scream replaced the rest of his words.

If there's such a thing as a vampire that isn't afraid of sunlight, it only means the sun hasn't been hot enough. Burn them to ashes, and the peace returns.

Allen quickly looted what little inheritance the meddlesome vamp left behind and bolted from the room. That loud scream? No way the others hadn't heard it, unless they were all deaf.

This was a lab, not some forgotten battlefield. He couldn't count on anyone here yelling, "Heavenly Clouds, fire!" or whatever nonsense.

Alright, since escape was off the table, there was only one option left: take the risk.

Dear vampire William, go to hell.
